  1. I order from candlescience also, I live 5 minutes away from them:smiley2: I have tried alot of their fragrance oils and they are great. Good prices. You just have to shop around most companies offer better price on bigger sizes. Peaks also has great FO.
  2. Get ya some wick pins for making votives. They are the best thing ever invented lol. The pin goes in the mold before u pour votive. When it is completely cool, just slide pin out and stick in your wick. You will have a centered and straight wick every time.
  3. Maybe it just didnt mix in all the way. I know vanilla, sugar cookie type FO are hard to mix. I always add my FO at 180, it behinds better with wax at higher temp. Maybe try adding it when wax is a little hotter, and stir little longer. I havent had good luck with sugar cookie FO. Good luck.
  4. They are great, I order from them. I live about 5 minutes from candlescience, so no shipping costs for me. That sucks that the wax was messed up, I guess it happens from time to time.
  5. #1 You want a wax made for pillars. Peaks has some good ones to use. Wax at craft stores are usually straight parafin with no addatives. Wax is something you have to play around with and see what you like best. #2 wick all depends on what kind of wax and how big your mold. Buy a wick sampler kit. #3 You need to add FO at around 180. Get a good therometer. If you mix it in when wax isnt hot enough it wont bind with wax. Also most pillar waxs only hold 6% FO, which is 1 oz to 1 lb wax. I have heard that if you over load it you dont always have great scent throw. You would be good to buy a kit from peaks. There will be instructions. Plus look at the directions on the side bar over there. Great info, and good luck.
  6. You can use the 36 zincs, they are a standard votive size. The 44s are gonna burn them faster. I agree try in a tight votive container first before you buy new wicks.
  7. Just tell him you are trying to prevent being sued if it caught someones house on fire or ruined there furniture etc... Its kind of a scary thing to sell, some people have some strange ways of burning candles. I told my girlfriend the other day that I dont ever think I would sell mine cause of the liability factor.
  8. Also when u repour you dont want to go above the original pour. Thats why you get a line. Its hard to do sometimes, but looks better. I poke my holes 30 min or so after I pour. I repoke as it cools. Not sure what the best depth is the poke, never really seen any info that said how deep to make them. I generally end up with inche or so deep.
  9. Sounds like you are getting air bubbles maybe. I always tap my jars really well. I have had some small jars get little dips like that, and take the heat gun to it. I think on my small jars they might cool to fast. Try sticking a box over them to cool.
  10. Hmm thats strange. I dont use liquid dye so not sure. Is it flat on top or bubbly? Kind of looks bubbly on top on one but could just be picture. Only that one color doing that? I would think that if it wasnt mixed good it would go to bottom and not top. Good luck. You could melt one down and try repouring to see if it does it again.
  11. Cool, sounds like you put it inside pot? Thats a good idea, I think my cookie sheet wasnt lvl sitting on top of pot.
  12. I to had this problem when I first started. I found that heating my molds got rid of the problem. You can use heat gun or warm oven. Just be careful with some molds they can melt in oven if to hot.
  13. Cookie sheet dont work well for me either. Alot of them arent perfectly flat, kind of bowed a little from using. I got turned of on making pillars cause I had same problem. Hopefully someone will give us a tip. I do know that some people will sit there molds in dry beans, you can get your mold lvl that way before you pour. I havent tried it yet tho.
  14. Also if you combine your FO and wax to cool temp it doesnt bind well. I add mine at 180 or 185. And keep on heat until its mixed good.
  15. I just stick a box on top or place them in a box to slow cooling. Ya I would think you may get water in there with top on. Dont know, guess you could just give it a try on one candle. Let us know how it goes if ya do:smiley2:
  16. I have gotten free shipping on wax, but I only ordered two slabs. Was first starting out. When I ordered the free was up to 30 pounds. After 30 pounds you payed the difference.
  17. I had a decent burn in a 3" pillar using a LX 18. Probally could have gone up a size and would be perfect. I dont recall the IGI wax I was using tho. I have been making more containers etc than pillars.
  18. If you like zincs maybe try a smaller wick for votives, 36 zinc would maybe work better. Good luck:smiley2:
  19. You can also try making your chunks a little darker, add little bit more dye/etc so they really show off. I also really cram alot of chunks in mine. You can also try heating your mold and then pressing them into mold. They may adhere to the mold better and the overpour wont get imbetween. :smiley2:
  20. Are u tapping your jars after you pour? I always tap mine good to make sure no bubbles, always see some rise up. Also make sure you pour very slow, you will get air bubbles if you pour too fast. Hope this helps:smiley2:
  21. I think they sell special molds for grubbys. Maybe someone can recommend a supplier that sells them for you.
  22. Yes I am feeling better now:smiley2: thanks. Gonna try to make some this week.
  23. Hehe the kits they sell at craft stores are awful. They have no name wax with scent blocks instead of oil. Dont think we have to worry about them out selling a great candlemaker:smiley2: I been making candles on and off for 6 months and still dont have my wicking right. I couldnt imagine selling one to someone. I havent been able to make candles for while, early pregnancy smell issue. But gonna get back to it got some candy corn oil I want to try.
  24. I use the 1945 wax, harmony blend. I am thinking of ordering some hex jars since my local supplier is now carrying them, so no shipping costs!! What size wicks work in these jars? These are the 6 oz jars, 3 1/2" by 3 1/2". I have most wicks so any suggestions would be great.
  25. Wow thats a very nice candle. Nice when mistakes turn out so good.:smiley2:
