  1. I have to chime in just to say that we all want to beleive our candles are the best. No matter what they are made of. Maybe some of us have every right to beleive that, but certainly some of us really don't. I have to say you opened the door for criticism. Constuctive or not. I think everyone on this board comes here for anything and everything that has to do with candles or bath and body. So, from my experience on this board, people devote alot of time to their craft, and everyone including myself has an opinon. Who is to say I'm right, you're right, the person over there is right? I know I learned a very valuable lesson from this thread.....make sure if you ask for advice be prepared for a wide variety of opinoins, negative and positive. If I can't handle what I consider to be the best of the best criticism about candle making from all who reply on this board, I sure won't ask for it.
  2. The dust thing was the first thing that came to my mind:rolleyes2 . I think it looks great.
  3. those are simply awesome. it looks like snowflakes embedded in them. what a great way to get into the x-mas spirit even though it's only first of october .
  4. ....but then I hit refresh and viola, there it was. hth
  5. I've purchased some of these, and I personally think they suck. You know what they say.....you get what you pay for.
  6. the people that asked if they were soy probably were connected somehow to the people selling that kind. sounds like you did good. I have been contemplating a couple of fall festivals around my neck of the woods. I don't mind, well yes I do mind the fee, but then the gas to get there. Kind of bums you out if you cannot at least make cost back. Then the flipside it is a grand feeling when you can sell out,(i am still waiting to see how that feels). so, the saga continues..........
  7. I know that is what the description states, and it also says Honeywell J50. I don't know if that is the difference, but like I said IMO, I think there is a distinct difference.
  8. I started with a paraffin blend, and with all I have read here I don't have the patients to even try soy. All I can say is the people who use it firmly believe in it, and I think that is great. Not only do I not have the patients, but I don't beleive I would have the funds to try. I have mainly stuck with wax from Natures Garden probably for the same reasons you use bcs for your main supplier. Location, location, location. If it helps, I tried the Joy Wax first, but had a few issues with sink holes (containers), so i went with mp123, and I have had great reviews so far. Although I have read that the mp123 is comparable to the J50, i don't believe this to be true for me. But thats me, and of course you know everything is different for everyone. HTH
  9. Funny you should write about this because I have been feeling the same way. I started doing this because I was tired of spending money on candles that burned like you know what. I know from previous experience, it takes money to make money. Plus, I have been a little lax on getting out there and trying to push them on different places. So right now I am planning on having my own candle party. Probably in October. I truly believe that if you have an exceptional product and believe in the product and get out and pound the pavement it will lead to sales. Getting out and pounding the pavement is easier for me though as I have no small children anymore (my baby turns 21 a week from tomorrow) in the house. It is definately alot of work and expense, but I tell myself if I don't make them I'll have to go back to Wal-mart's crummy candles, and I won't have easy access to gifts. so hang in there, and know that you are not the only one in this boat.
  10. I figured as much. Seems like everything these days is produced in China. Thanks for the info though.
  11. does anyone get this catalog? I got one today geared toward christmas and it is just loaded with the bags you all use for air fresheners. only one type of container though. little tin buckets. just a heads up.
  12. who is the supplier of this great scent?
  13. Natures Garden has a peach called Georgia Sunrise or Sunset, I can't remember, but it is awesome. you should just try it!!! wish I had some, I would send you some to try.
  14. this is nothing compared to a coffee scent. creme brulee, imo reminds me of twinkie's:undecided I like it though, and so do some of my customers.
  15. hot baked apple pie is really good. From NG. although it has cinnamon in it, it does not overpower the apples and spice, and definately does not smell like cinnamon buns.
  16. I love the tarts. Seems I hardly ever burn, unless I'm testing. I have three of the hotplate types of warmers spread through my house. I have been mostly melting my tarts instead of selling them. There are only a few people right now that buy them. Our neck of the woods is a little slow in the times.
  17. I use blocks and have noticed that certain colors smell like fuel. And maybe it's me, but I think Jamacia Me Crazy has a fuel scent to it. So as not to be anymore confusing, I think it is certain fo's that put the smell of fuel in wax not the dye, no matter if liquid or block. My opinion, and you know what people say about those.
  18. DH supports and encourages my candle making, but I truly believe (he says not so) he hates that I have taken over part of his domain (garage)!!!
  19. this is very true about where the jar starts to come in. Plus I also think it has a little to do with the wax type. When I used Joy Wax I always had sink holes, but with MP123 and pouring right to the neck, I never experience sink holes.
  20. I ordered from them a couple weeks ago over the phone, and the rep told me every new customer gets three free samples with their first order. I did not know that either. Good thing she asked. Maybe if you order through the internet somehow it is not stated with the first order.HTH Oh yeah, it was bittercreek north
  21. I just poured this again last night. I heat my wax and add fragrance at 175' or 170'. I shake the fo before putting it in the wax, and then whisk really good. No problem here.
  22. kind of how I felt when I got their feng shui f.o. "wood". wasn't to sure what to think. once I poured, I liked it, and so did a few other people.
  23. I don't think this is really what you could call these, but you know the cheap old brown paper you use in public restrooms to dry your hands? Comes in rolls? Well, I had about half a roll of these, and ran out of regular paper towels while making candles and used these brown things. They actually worked. Quite well too. Wonder if you could buy these by the case for cheaper than paper towels. Something to check into.
