Well one the wick needs to be kept tightly around a wick rod and occasionally pulled on to make sure it's still taunt. Secondly, I would try to keep my relief holes open for about 6 hours before doing a repour and that's saying that no liquid gushes out. Pour temps can make a diff, but so can the type of wax used. Imagine having a votive look normal, but hours later going to make the final pour only to find that the whole thing really shrunk to about 1/4 of a cup.
