  1. See it's not a straight leather scent to me and people who buy our leather stuff say the same thing too. You must have only gotten a sample size then I take it?
  2. Drak was a complete disappointment to me. Way too light.
  3. Be easier just to use the vybar eh? LOL! Yes, too much stearic could cause some roughness/brittleness (thus add something else to it if you're going to use that much), however if you're talking at the bottom of that candle, that looks more like pour lines to me (pouring above the initial pour) No, too much stearic (well not at that load anyway) will not lock up the scent. As for vybar, it used to be that the 1 tsp was the standard and that was one level tsp. So this is Pillar formula #2 out of Bob Sherman's book: 1 pound paraffin wax (140 degree) 3 to 9 T of stearic (the amount needed for good results will vary with different waxes. In no instance should less than 3 T be used) 1 oz FO (saying amount may need to be reduced to prevent mottling) Dye to desire color
  4. Don't wrap it so tightly, but if it still breaks after that, then you could try sealing off in different methods.
  5. Are you sure you can't get the dye somewhere else? Personally, I wouldn't give anything away either whether I was selling it to someone else or not (unless they bought my secrets, then that's different I suppose.)
  6. If the frost bothers you, pour about 10 degrees hotter than you did and see if that doesn't fix it. And don't touch the cups, even to move them, till they've started to set up pretty good.
  7. Well I think you did pretty well there. It's not that easy of a technique until you're used to how your wax responds to being moved and shoved, true.
  8. Other thing is if your tapers do spring a leak, I see that being a way to have a wax fountain. I'd rather have it build on my candle than be all over my table.
  9. I think you should test them. I have never used them, but what they look like to me is an old pop top or twist off top ... tell me I'm wrong, but if I'm not, I wouldn't think it would necessarily work.
  10. Towards the end of the year coastal runs a special that will knock those prices down by x %. It was the cheapest place I found to get a 50-lb bag of it.
  11. or are you talking this? http://windowcandles.com/beta/product.php?catID=239
  12. Dear God smack those sellers upside the head for selling plastic especially. The wood ones should be lined with a brass or metal inlay. Smack those people for not selling ones with that. OK so are you talking the brass cups then? If so, there are some on eBay and there are other things w/ that seller too. http://shop.ebay.com/items/brass%20candle%20cups?_dmd=1&_sop=12&rvr_id=133676686810&keyword=brass+candle+cups&crlp=5255611444_1&MT_ID=69&tt_encode=raw&adgroup_id=791413834 or maybe: http://www.nationalartcraft.com/subcategory.asp?gid=5&cid=109&scid=239
  13. No offense, but this is old news. Sad to see them go, but to stay in business one really needs to stay up with their stock and even maybe upgrade it a little bit.
  14. Plastic + flame = fire Wood + flame = fire Typically more taper holders are made of metal. You might be able to cut the wick shorter before finishing off your candle, but that's going to depend on how you make it. In a mold, you would still need to sustain the wick and keep the tension on it until it is setting up. If you're dipping, well you might be able to form a blob of wax at the bottom of it where there is no wick into a base. I know people can buy a shaper for the base of tapers. I couldn't tell you of a contraption to make though. I would just snip the wick once most of the candle has set up and then finish off with wax.
  15. To keep it all in one section so it is easier to find and to keep from having several posts of the same mention of a sale from controlling any area of the board.
  16. Also if you want to spruce it up a little, maybe add some cool water to it. Come to think of it Green Irish Tweed might work in that GL cowboy too.
  17. The GL Cowboy is not a fav of mine, but I don't like leather scents. Those who do really like that scent if that helps you.
  18. Yes, yes, no, yes. Put them into wax and not under your nose. Yes, GL Cowboy has a leather main note, but it isn't straight leather. No buttercream frosting scent smells delish out of bottle. Haven't done the LCCC, but the BJBC I always thought needed a little more blackberry, but it is a good scent and definitely a good one in wax.
  19. I don't think so. I think it's along the lines of thinking that much will help to keep the scent in the wax perhaps. There are some NG fragrances where not even vybar will help bring a scent out.
  20. Depends on how much stearic you're using though. I get very little mottle most of the time but I'm using quite a bit of stearic too.
  21. I don't see jump lines either. I see what looks like small craters caused by air.
  22. Look on recent posts to that blog too about hair straighteners. Not that we do them here, but it's interesting to follow what's going on.
