  1. Thanks for that cause I sure would have.
  2. Thanks it does help. I am new to pillars and never heard the term before. I'm pillar dumb. I guess I was under the miss-conception that the pillar should burn all the way across (without help/hugging) like a container candle does. Learn something new everyday it seems.
  3. I've been reading for a few days now about paraffin pillars and see the term "hug" being used. Sorry but I'm dummer than a stump and I can not figure out what in the heck it means. Anyone care to enlighten me? Thanks...
  4. nobcanldle, that wax should have come in slabs. How much did you buy? When I got mine the box had been drop which broke some of the slabs up and I ended up with a few chunks. The wax is a little oily if I remember correctly but wasn't too bad. It did smell different than the CBA that I was used to but wasn't bad, just different. If you think that it's bad I would call the folks that you bought it from and ask them. I found the wax very easy to cut once I was told how. :rolleyes2 Will you post pics of your first pour?
  5. Anyone know of a place in Canada where a person that lives in Canada can buy candle making supplies (or Candle kit)?
  6. I found this old thread that I had posted. It shows some testing that I did and a letter from the mfg for anyone that is interested. I don't think the pics will be on the server much longer though. http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43406&highlight=accu-soy Carrie, I did try the wick twist. Someone (maybe you) told me about it when I was testing. I would search it out to find out who but the pages load to slow. I kept pulling the wick out from the wick tab. I'm too strong I guess but it sounds like it would work from what you say. How did you clip them so they didn't un-wind? No the dip at the wick is not the cracking that I am referring to anyway. The pics in the link shows some of the cracking, if you can see them...
  7. I used htp's and found that I needed to wick up compared to what I was using with the CBA. The Accu-Soy 10 seemed to be a little harder wax than the CBA I thought. I found that centering the wick (htp) in the container made for an uneven burn b/c of the curl (there may be an old thread about that too) requiring wicking up and a reason that I tried the LX's. I did try to offset the wicks (htp) to try to compensate but that was required more battle gear. :rolleyes2 Seemed like I would offset one way and the darn thing would curl the other. It was a royal PITA for me. I used htp 105's in the 8 oz square mason's and never really liked to burn. I thought they were (made the container) too hot but the 104's were too cool (made for an uneven burn). I did try LX's but by the time I got around to using them I was exhausted from all the testing and had decided to give up on the wax at that point. I've never used the zinc, cd, cdn or the rrd wicks so I have no input on that. Sorry.
  8. Wow, somebody has been digging up bones to find this old thread I quit using the Accu-Soy. (I no longer make candles to sell, I had to quit for health reasons) I just couldn't get past all the little problems. Some of the problems I/you wouldn't notice it in tins. I was told (by someone from Swans) that the cracking was b/c I was moving the containers after pouring. I found that to be BS. The wax would crack if I just left them where they were poured. I tried different containers, different heating and pouring temps, w/fo, w/o fo, w/color, w/o color, dye chips, liquid dye, heated containers and un-heated containers. I just couldn't get all the little "bugs" worked out. I did sell quite a few of the containers to see what others thought and no one complained. I found with the Accu-Soy (10) all of the fo's that I tried threw well and no curing time. It does have lots of positives. I did go back to CBA mainly b/c I was most familar with it and already knew what would throw and what wouldn't and I was getting to the point of not having any hair left lol To sum the story up I would say give the wax a try. Take the basic pouring instructions and tweek as needed. . You may have better luck with the enviorment that you will be pouring in.
  9. I didn't like the way that the container candle looked after burning either. It's hard to explain but I will try. They would have a white chaulky line around the candle in the upper portion of the container after cooling. I thought it took away from the overall appearance of the container.
  10. Yep I did. I used liquid dye and dye chips. I also tried marbling but didn't have alot of luck with that but that probably just me. I also did some w/o color and some w/o fo with the same results. Jars didn't seem to make any difference either. :smiley2:
  11. Ok, here is my 2 cents. When I first started using Accu-Soy 10 I liked it. I had used CBA and I liked the fact that I could pour hotter. The HT was better too in that I didn't have to wait for it. After using about 100 lbs of this wax I found that it has a darkerside that I didn't like. It cracks. Hairline cracks on the inside of the container that look like spider webs for lack of a better word. I think I have some pics posted if you were to type in a search you might find them if you are interested. I tried pouring at different temps and could not get rid of them. I also talked to the factory about it but wasn't able to solve the issue. Seemed like as the candle aged they got worse or maybe I just zoned in on them. Just like with any other wax, it's all in what you are willing to put up with.
  12. Htp 105's would be a little big for that small of a container. When I tried the 4 oz tins with the CBA I used the htp 62' or 73's if I remember right. I would start with the 62's if you have them and go up or down from there.:smiley2:
  13. I don't really get it either and would like to know too. That wasn't a quality that I was looking for in a container wax. As a matter of fact, for my use (making container candles) I found that the softer wax that I tried to be a negitive quality. Dust and debris stuck to the tops (my house does get dusty :embarasse ). If you barely bumped the top of the candle with your finger when lighting it the wax would dent. I would have preferred a "harder" top but maybe Cami has a different use
  14. I have used the 444 and the CBA. I also have tested the 70/30 from Greenleaf and the Accu-Soy 10 from Swans. Both of those waxes are softer than the CBA. Here is a link to the test results for the Accu-soy http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43406&highlight=accu-soy HTH's
  15. Ohhh, don't quit I gotta say that I am impressed! This looks great. Can't believe this is your first try!! Here is a link that has some good info: http://www.mosaicartsupply.com/mosaicfaqs.htm As far as clean up I am new myself so can't help with that one-sorry.
  16. I've been where you are at for 20 years now so I kinda get it. Just a thought here, have you thought about hiring high school kids to do some of the less skilled chores? They may not be a threat as far as starting their own business and would be part-time.
  17. I'm not using the wax that you are using but I use htp 93 to 104's in the wide mouth 8oz jj depending on the fo and/or color. I use anywhere from an htp 73 to 93 depending on the fo and/or color in the tall 8oz jj's. hth's
  18. That's great :highfive: Ok, now give it up. What wax and who's fo did you use hummm. Come on now let's hear it.
  19. Those are so cute and what a great idea :highfive: When I first saw the diaper cake posts I thought ok another cake to eat! :embarasse I must live in the stone age b/c I have never seen one of these!! Are those diap's for infants? I assume that the parent to be can use them on the baby to be?
  20. I use CBA too and along with what everyone else said you do need to let them cure for at least a week before you test for ht. 24 hours isn't long enough for some fo's especially with CBA. If it doesn't have ht in a week or so, I would ditch that fo if you are trying to sell the candle but that's my opinion I have some fo's that throw great and some that don't throw woth a darn even after curing for weeks, but that is also true with some other waxes that I have tested. Some are "keepers" and others are "dumpers" HTH
  21. I think I have the tile cutting figured out. I get a straight cut most of the time . The first thing was to cut off my finger nails. Those little tiles and my nails didn't get along, I even nipped one. I started in the center of the mosaic and worked out. Don't know if that's the way to do it but that's the way I did it. I can't decide if I want something around the outside edges....:undecided This is a craft that you just can't rush, I cut a few tiles, glue them and wait for the glue to dry. It reminds me of putting a puzzle together, kinda relaxing.
  22. I poured vanilla hazelnut from Candle Science last Saturday in Accu-Soy 10 @ 1.5 oz pp w/a htp wick. I lit it tonight, which I thought might be a little early, and it is awesome! I had been burning a cba container that I had poured about 6 months ago using MC's vanilla hazelnut @ 1.5 oz pp w/a htp wick in cba wax so I wanted to compare the two. There is no comparison, the CS fo is much, much better. I have been mostly a MC user so I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I'm not sure how well it would throw in the cba but it does have me wondering and I think I might try it. But oh darn! I am going to have to place another order for more fo! I really hate it when I have to do that
  23. Have you recently installed a popup blocker or any toolbars other (like google)? Have you cleaned your computer of adware and spyware? Either can cause this type of problem too.
  24. This may be a dumb question but do you have a firewall like Zone Alarm installed?
  25. Hi Carrie, Do you find that more older people than younger people buy your tins? I ask b/c some older folks that I have sold to have a fear of the glass breaking and feel "safer" using the tins. If I offer them (I'm talking about older folks here) the mason's they aren't quite as worried about breakage as they are used to using them for canning but, as I said I haven't sold all that many tins. Thanks.
