  1. Thanks Candle Man. I will have a look.
  2. I know that one of the times that the glue dots did stick I was able to remove it by warming the jar in the oven. From what I can figure out so far there are two different types of wick sticker, glue dots and wick stickums. Does that sound right?
  3. Any one used the wick stickers from Millcreek and do they work? The glue dots that I have tried to use apparently are for decorating the bottom of the wick tabs . I like using the silicone gun but I can't get the wick tabs removed from the jar after it has set up.
  4. I thought it may get a little too hot with 4 wicks but when I tested it seemed to be just fine. It sure looks nice lit. ________________________________________ Thanks for complement Scented! I think you might be thinking of tlc26?? I haven't posted much as of yet, mostly reading and learning
  5. I did some testing before doing the final pour and I found that with the wicks placed closer together the melt pool didn't reach the corners. I used 4 htp 52 (?) wicks. The flame dances a little but I thought she might like that effect. There may be a better size wick or a different type that may have worked better.. Thank you for the feedback and Happy holidays.
  6. I scented it with Banana Bread believe it or not Kinda different I know but it is a gift and she liked that scent. A rasberry would have been perfect.
  7. Very, very nice. I like the choice of background too. Really makes the candle show up.
  8. Wow! One of the nicest ones that I have seen. Good job.
  9. Well I finally made the 5" square candle that I posted a question about a few months back:embarasse . I tried my hand at marbling and it actually looks better than the pics show.. As you can see there isn't much effect at the bottom part of the candle. The bottom of the container is concave so the wax was setting up faster than the rest, so that made it hard for me to get the color into those areas. One of the pictures shows (I hope) that the very center of the candle sunk down. I am not sure why.. Maybe with a little more experience I can get better results. I really like the container but so far haven't been able to come up with any more. That might be a good thing because I had a heck of a time trying to figure out a way to hold the wicks to keep them straight while the wax set up. There were quite a few problems that I came across while making a candle this large and I did learn a lesson or two:D BTW it took 2 lbs. of wax (CBA) to make this candle. Merry Christmas!!
  10. Hi, I am no expert but the pic looks pretty good for a close up. Next one you take maybe use a little less zoom so there is more contrast to show off your candle Very nice candle btw..
  11. Does any one know which calculator I should use to figure the amount of wax for a square container measured 4 3/4" (front to back) wide and 5" high? Would I figure with the container calculator or the rectangular mold calculator? I get two different totals for the wax weight. :undecided Thanks in advance
  12. No it is not measured diagonally Tangerine. It is measured straight across. Sorry, I should have said so in my first post. It is going to be a big candle no doubt about it. :whoohoo: I can't wait to see it. It will be a cheer up gift for my Aunt (if it turns out).
  13. All I can say is wow that is a lot of wicks!! Do I place them close to the edge?
  14. Hi guys, I am going to be pouring a candle this weekend and am looking for advice on what wick size and how many to use. I will be using CBA and I have LX and HTP wicks. The container size is 5" tall and 4 3/4" square. It is a really nice container and I am excited to get some wax in it. I have only been doing jj so am a bit puzzled :undecided . Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Can't answer your question (other than to say ditto to the other posts) but wanted to say welcome to the candle making addiction
  16. Sounds like it is worth testing. It would be nice to find a wax that would have a nice throw for a change..... Thanks for the quick answer.
  17. Dumb question but how do you go about cutting a slab?? I have been working with flakes and thinking about changing wax. I have steered clear of slab not know how the heck to cut it :rolleyes2
  18. I think I was on the same block as Wickerbeal Smells like the real thing to me
  19. Thanks Grandmaskitchen for the help. I will look into this wax. BTW I like your user name Iammommytoo i do agree with you about the CBA. I like everything about it but the throw. It is smooth as silk and a nice looking wax. I can get it from a supplier that is pretty close to me and that is was is so frustrating about it. I have been using Peaks fo at about 1.5 to 1.75 % pp. I have tried their Cappuccion Hazelnut, Cinnamon Buns, Sugar Cookie and Banana Nut Bread. The last one I just poured a couple of days ago so I haven't tested it yet. I also purchased Dreamcycle (?) from Candlescience and made a couple with that fo at the same time so I will have to wait a week or so to test those. I have tried pouring at different temps, different wicks, heating the jars, not heating the jars on and on... My first candle kit came from MC and that got me hooked on the whole candle thing to start with. Those candles were a knock out as far as the throws but the wax just wasn't as nice imo. Do you think maybe I should try a different fo supplier? I am still going to order some different type of wax if nothing else but to make me feel like I am making a step forward. Soya I have been watching your posts trying to learn from your experience but I as you can see I haven't had much luck so far. Thanks gals all for the links and the input. It is all very, very helpful
  20. I have been using CBA for a few months now and am not able to get a decent hot or cold throw. You have to hold your nose over the jar and whiff until you pass out to be able to even smell the scent. I keep throwing money at the stuff and not having much luck with it. I have decided to change to some other type of soy wax and am looking for some suggestions?? Thanks
  21. Soya, I thought I read one of your posts that said that you were using BW for scent throw and that you thought it had worked. What happened if you don't mind me asking? I am having the same trouble you are with the CBA and that is the reason I asked. Thanks
  22. I will light one tonight and look for smoke signals
  23. Yep this is what I saw: http://www.oldvirginiacandle.com/product_info.php?products_id=68510 the only difference is the scent. The store had Blackberry Cobbler, Strawberry and some other one in 8.5 oz..
