  1. Thanks for the tip Georgia. Much appreciated I'll give the mold a wrap or two after I pour.
  2. I've never wicked a wine bottle. I have wicked some convex containers and I would not use glue dots or wick tabs and especially so on that much of a convex angle/point. Silicone is what I would use if I were you. You will also have quite a bit of wax left past the wick tab but you probably have already figured that one out. Are your wine bottle(s) fairly thick glass wise? If the glass was thick enough for a container candle then I bet they would look pretty cool. Welcome to the forum
  3. Thanks Pam. Now the mystery is solved. I was thinking I didn't stir the stearic enough so now I feel better about that. No stearic next time and less f/o. Keeping my toes crossed..... Would/could that (too much f/o load) be the cause of the pin holes? The pin holes seem to be mostly in the top but a few scattered in the body too.
  4. Thanks all. Anyone have an opinion as to what the residue in the bottom of the pot is? I'm just curious about it as I have never seen this before.
  5. Thanks for that Donita. I just learned something new today.
  6. First of all I am posting here b/c these are not worthy of the Candle Gallery and I am hoping to learn a thing or two. I poured these on Sunday and un-molded last night (Monday). This is what I did/used: 1274 Mottle Wax Blue dye, red dye and black dye~ all liquid Stearic Cinnamon buns f/o (I know it doesn't go with the colors but I LOVE it ) 3x6.5 mold 3x4.4 mold Blue candle~ heat to 195*. Add 6 or 7 drops blue dye around 190*. Next 2 tbs plus 1.5 tps stearic then stirred lots. Added f/o 1.3 oz about 190* to 185* and stirred to 180* and poured into room temp mold. Red candle~ heat wax to 195*. Add 8 drops red dye and 1 drop black around 190*, stir then added 2 tbs stearic and stir, stir. Added f/o (.9 oz) at 190* and stirred to 185* then poured. I clean my molds with a heat gun or oven (whichever is handiest) then I wash them in dawn dish soap and dry. I call these a dirty mottle due to this build up of gook. It's not f/o all together but like a sludge. I don't have the seepage like I did when I poured my very first mottles a couple of months ago. They do have this sludge type residue over the whole candle but is mainly concentrated at the top. I have to wash my hands after handling them. There are tiny pin holes on both candles, not tons of them but they are there none-the-less. You can see the pour marks on my second pour :embarasse I'm also throwing in a pic of my pouring pot which shows the residue on the bottom. I have never seen this before and wondering if it's the stearic stuck to the bottom?? I've never used stearic before so I dunno.
  7. WOW, I'm really impressed. Makes me think of sunshine and summer too. Good job!
  8. Did your hubby make you one KS or did you buy it on HIS credit card? I'm assuming that the made you one. YAY!!!!
  9. Ks, I would threaten him with boxed mac & cheese dinner for a month if he doesn't get on it
  10. Thanks PAgirl for the link.
  11. Yep, I got me some of that very wax. If I get a chance I'll pour some today. Thanks a bunch for the tip ks you are too nice!
  12. Thanks Pam. I did know that Vybar wouldn't work but good to have the reminder. Ksranch, that would be awesome if you could give me a clue about the amount of stearic. Yay! The info on my stearic says 1-3 tbs per pound of wax but no specific type mentioned.
  13. Where did you get your wooden mold? I've seen those bigger plastic ones but is there a reason you like the wooden ones? Pardon me but I'm a soap newbie.
  14. Welcome Kimberly. Candle making has come along way since the old days of melting some paraffin wax and throwing in some crayons for color and then pouring into a milk carton. That is how I started and I'll tell you that I ruined my friends Mom's pan and the "candle" didn't burn. I don't even remember what we used for a wick. Yep, the good old days LOL.
  15. I thought that if you add steric to mottling wax it removes the mottling effect? No?? Warm Vanilla Oak, well now I am hungry and want to sit by the fire. :smiley2:
  16. Nice again. :smiley2: Did you get the HT you were looking for by adding the steric? You said before that you weren't very happy with it. I just ventured into pillars and the first ones I made I did about everything wrong a person could do. I added way too much f/o and they seeped like crazy. The color bled out with the seepage too. They sure were purdy (to me) though.
  17. You can! I'm waiting so see the pics too.
  18. Very nice. You did yourself proud on these
  19. Have you tried again yet? Wondering what your results were. Love these though.
  20. Yeppers, it sure is. I always try to remember that the way something is written isn't always they was it was meant when the writer wrote it (read typed). You can't see the writer's face to have any facial expressions to go on and it's real easy to miss understand something that is written (read typed). Just a little something I learned long ago as a newbie. That is all the lessons today from the "great wise one" On a side note..This is the second thread today that I've tried to post to that gave me troubles. I might has to smash something here in a minute.
  21. Well shoot, this is the second time I've replied to this thread. I keep having CRS today. A heat gun is basically a hairdryer on steroids. I have one and it looks just like a hand held hairdryer but bigger and a ton hotter. Here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_gun Btw, every time I see this thread it makes me smile and I think of the song "dimples on my b^tt" we used to sing with I was a kid. I think we used to sing freckles instead of dimples but what the heck, it makes me smile anyway. ~ Sorry for stepping on your thread.
  22. Dave, just a thought here... Maybe you should/could be looking to the wax manufacturer for some help in determining what the cause of the "flare up" might be. From what I'm reading so far you are not going to give up and roll over on your wicking idea (for lack of a better word) so the manufacturer may be able to give you some insight as to how you can answer some of the questions you feel are not getting addressed. Who but the manufacturer (of the wax that you used/or are using) would have the lab/funding/science etc, etc and have most likely tested with wood wicks. Like I said, just a thought..... Good luck. Oh, and I forgot. Welcome to the forum since you are a newbie.

I'm glad I could make your day!
  24. What they all said. I don't ever get tired of looking at those little jars for some reason. Simplicity I guess. Welcome to the forum by the way
