  1. Hi Kelly, While I don't make that many tins, the ones that I do make I use HTP 63's. I use CBA wax w/some beeswax and I also use Accu-soy 10. Hope this will help you
  2. I am looking for another tip here. I have discovered that when cutting the tiles, I get little shards of tile that comes off and go on the floor and on me too. I have tried to cut the tile in a plastic zip loc bag to try to contain them but I then have trouble cutting the tile correctly (which happens alot :embarasse ). What do some of you do about the shards?
  3. Oh, these are so cute!! I've been wondering what Ornies are. Pardon my question here, but what are they good for?
  4. Those candles look pretty good to me but I don't know a thing about luminares. They seem kinda pricey. Most folks that go to Tahoe have a dollar or two. I hope you sell the heck out of yours Donita. Seems like bears never completely go out of "style".
  5. When I really stop and think about it, with her income and other folks like her, they can pretty much afford it. 120 bucks is a drop in the hat to them-pocket change. Those folks shop on a totally different level than I do, that's forsure. You know the old saying: the more you make the more you spend and I am guilty of that one myself. Just one look at all the fo, wicks and containers that I have will tell you that much. She does give to charity and that's great but she also deserves (IMO) to spend the money she has earned on what she likes and she likes spendy candles. Now, if she could spend some in our direction...
  6. I agree, the box is pretty fancy. I have no clue what the container might be worth but we all have a good idea what the wax, wick, color and fo is worth. I bet they sold a ton of them since the article was published.
  7. I saw an ad for these in "O" mag and had to look for myself. It doesn't say what type of wax they are made of. http://www.penhaligons.co.uk/ishop/1/shopscr1348.html All I can say is WOW
  8. Well I'm glad you asked... I'm still trying to get the cutting figured out. It's harder than I thought. I never gave it much thought before but I sure do have an appreciation for those that can. Glad I have extra tile cuz I'm gonna make some boo boo's! The design I picked out it a dragon fly flying through the reeds and has lot's of different colors. I didn't think about how I was going to make all the bumps and curves in the bugs body, not to mention those darn wings. Don't get me wrong I'm still excited, can't wait to cut those tiles and then get to glue them-somebody hold me back So what about you? Are you getting started yet?
  9. I am pasting the email that I received today from Henry @ Accu-Blend. He was very quick to respond to my question which surpised me I am hoping to use their pillar wax when I get a little more experience. ***************** Hi Theresa, I'm glad the Accu-Soy #10 is working for you. You can put up to 10% fragrance load but I usually only suggest 8% max because it will not burn as well with anything over 8%. What temperature are you finding works best for you? Thank you for the feedback on the Accu-Soy #10. 10. Sorry that your wax was discontinued. That stinks! Yes, Swan's does sell this wax and here is the link: http://swanscandles.com/store/soy_blends_natural_waxes.html I assumed the the fo load was the same as the cba but I did send an email to Accu-Blend asking that question. When I get a reply I will post it to this thread. I am using 1.5 oz to 1 lb. of wax for the most part if that helps at all
  11. Yep that's a shroom alright! I've seen them a time or two myself.
  12. Ok, I get the picture now. How did we go from BNB to this?? Ahhh, the fun of it...
  13. Well good for you. Your hooked now! You will have to post some pics.
  14. I am real happy with this last pour. The wax set up real nice and the tops look good. I poured this batch at 175 degrees, way hotter than I have ever poured. I had problems at first keeping the pour pot hot enough for get everything mixed in. After getting some advice from the board that problem has been resolved. I didn't get any cracking in the mason's. This wax seems to like those jars. The 8oz jj's are a little different story as you can see from the pix. There were some wet spots and very light cracking around the wick tab. I haven't figured out why yet but maybe the wax had cooled off some by the time I got around to pouring those. I did find out that I can't use the hot glue to hold the tabs due to the hotter temp and had to switch to silicone. I am pretty happy with the wax so far and like the look of it in the mason's. It has good hot and cold throw. I can't compare it to any other wax except for the CBA and I think this new wax is better. I didn't have any frosting which is real nice and I can pour much hotter so I can speed up production. You do have to heat the jars before pouring. There is no getting around that part. A small price to pay for the end result. Oh, the mason's are scented w/blueberry and the jj's are monkey farts. **** THE END **** http://www.atvbarn.com/atvbarn.htm
  15. Gosh, I must live in the dark ages you guys cuz now I have to figure out what karma sultra means and is QWIM a typo or are we still waiting on that one? Is it DH dear or dumb husband? Hey, I do know what duhhhh means .
  16. Ok someone help me on this, what does BNB stand for?? :embarasse And K-rap I just ordered from them and didn't get this one. Shucks!!!!
  17. I don't know which wax you are using but normally you heat the wax to the mfg suggested temp to start out, then you add color if you want, then your fo. This is an example only: heat to 185 degrees add color, cool to 175 degrees and add fo, cool to 125 degrees and pour into your containers. Alot of peeps pour much cooler than that. It all depends on your wax like some of the posts said. Remember to take notes and to stir well. Good luck!
  18. It didn't seem to bother the wick stickums but the glue dots would come loose every single time. I switched to hot glue b/c I had a hard time getting the stickems and now that I pour at 175, which is necessary for the AC-10 in my area, the glued wick tabs do come loose . I have changed to silicone so heating the jars also helps with that setup. My lowest setting on my oven is 170 so after it heats up I just open the door a little to let some heat out then I put my jars in. I remember when ovens went down to 125, so what happened to that?? I hope we didn't totally confuse Islandgirljen with all our different techniques and tweeks
  19. Don't feel bad, my first candles hurt my eyes when I looked at them. You will get better! Just read and ask questions. There are lot's of very helpful peeps on this board and there is lot's of good threads (maybe more that you have time to read) if you do a search. You go girl! :highfive:
  20. Hi and welcome! Susan is right, you will get lots of different opinions and here's another . I heat my containers. I turn my oven on as low as it will go, put my wicked containers in then turn off the oven while I melt, add color, stir, stir, stir, add fo and then stir, stir, stir some more. When I am ready to pour I take out the amount of jars that I need and pour them. I have found with the type of wax that I use it does make a difference if the jar is heat and it gives me a little extra time if I am going to marble. Also, the theory is that the jar won't get "shocked" by pouring into a heated jar. So there you have it for what it's worth .
  21. Hi and welcome! Congrats on your first candle :highfive: . Do post a pic so we can see the results of all your effort .
  22. I use AC-10 and wicked the 4oz tin with a htp 52 and it seemed to work well. HTH
  23. Hi Amish Ragdoll! I am a little confused . After reading you advice about cutting straight it sounds like you are talking about a fairly large piece of glass or tile is that right? TIA
  24. Sorry for jumping in but this thread caught my eye b/c I just went to the craft store last night and bought my first pair of tile nippers , so I am new at it too. My neighbor does some really nice stuff that she sells to a shop by the beach. Just looking at her stuff over the years got me interested. I like the outdoor stuff but my first one will be something small for the inside. Now if I can only figure out how in the heck to cut that tile straight
