  1. All my daughters girlfriends that were buying HI candles are now buying mine. I guess that is bragging but it really did surprise me the difference between them and I haven't been making them that long. They complain about the burn and hang they get with the HI's. They haven't tried the soys yet so I waiting to see what kind of feedback they will have. So my long draw out point is, you shouldn't have any worries at all Glad your party went well!
  2. Well here is the update for the test burn and I hope these pics turn out! 8oz jj on the left so you could see the diff. These are after burnin 12 hours. The fo is Orange Blossom. Cold throw is faint and the hot throw is almost not there. You can smell something faintly sweet but can't tell the scent at all and this is testing in a very, very small room. The containers are very cute and look pretty good. The wax looks like it might be mixed with some other wax to me. They don't have alot of hang up as you can see but do have a small wet spot. They do "dimple" up after cooled which looks pretty nice. The wicks tend to get rather long and appear to be zinc. I thought the color was nice. Another thing that I did notice is that they have no warning labels on them anywhere....I thought they were kinda pricey 3 candles for 16.00. It looks like the containers might hold 3oz of wax. I was also told that the next ones would have shipping added..
  3. Hi Chauna1, I am testing sq mason's using AC-10 using htp and Lx wicks (not in the same jar ). You might try an LX 26 to start with. This is the first time I have tried the LX's so I am not real up on them but hope this helps you out.
  4. I love those melts. They look perfect and good enough to eat. Great job!
  5. Thanks! Look out Cabana boy cause here I come
  6. Ok, I gotta ask. Where did you get that fo?? Huh? Never heard of it but can't resist a cute cabana boy...
  7. Hello Newsoaper First we need to know what type of wax, wick and scent you are using so we can get going on this problem of yours.
  8. Welcome. You will be an addict before you know it.
  9. Hi Janette, I have used Glue Dots, when I could get them to stick, Millcreeks stickems (not sure what they are called:o ) and Silicone. I have purposely burnt my containers clear to the bottom until the candle actually goes out b/c there is no wick left to burn and have not noticed a difference in scent or soot. I use high temp glue and the tabs stay put, so far...As far as toxicity is concerned I can't answer that one. You need to ask someone that has more smart pills than I do. Hth and good luck with your venture.
  10. Well like the others on this thread have already said, the candles do smoke. I also did the HI party thing a few years back. When I first purchased their candles they burned really good and clean. I didn't party for a couple of years then the next time I went the candles that I bought were junk. Black soot and lots of hang up. That was enough for me. All these girls were raving over them and I just didn't "get it". Could they not see the soot? I had to wipe them down everytime I wanted to burn them. My daughter did showed me some that she had purchased just last year and I see that they haven't changed. I did buy the soy candles to see how well they burn just for fun.
  11. Thanks all! I now have some pretty good ideas and easy ones too! I think I hear some candle wax calling me
  12. Dat, Thanks for the idea. I am thinking of heating to 190 and giving that a shot. Hope it works!
  13. Pat, The first time I didn't heat it up but the next time I did and it helped. Thanx
  14. I am having trouble keeping my pouring container hot enough after I have mixed, to be able to pour at the correct temp. I am melting the wax in a Presto then pouring into a mixing container, adding color and fo. I have a small window to pour meaning heat to 180 then pour at 170. By the time I pour in to my pouring (heated) container add all the stuff, get it mixed and ready to pour the darn stuff has cooled below the correct pouring temp This is really ticking me off. What can I do to keep the temp up?
  15. Hi jakalex, I have some of HI soy candles on order and hope to get them in a couple of weeks. I will post the burn tests when I have them.. tlc
  16. Looks like I am the only one using this wax but for those of you who are interested here is what I found out about the cracking issue. The factory suggests heating the wax to 180 degrees, adding fo and color, then pouring at 170 degrees. I had posted the cracking problem on Swans forum and they suggested that I not move the containers after pouring them. When I was using cba I would normally move them from the counter to the oven to cool. The folks at Swans thinks it is disturbing the cooling process and since the candles cool off quicker on the tops and bottoms it could be causing the cracking in those areas.
  17. I am wondering if anyone using Accu-Soy container wax has experienced cracking in the wax after it has set up and what they may have done to "fix it"?
  18. I like the 2oz idea for making containers. That way I would have enough to be able to wick up or down and get a pretty good idea of how it will burn and throw. 1oz just doesn't cut the mustard for me.
  19. This is just what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing the link.
  20. Anyone know if the LX-21 is close to the same size as the htp 104? Looks close to me. I am wicking a 8oz square mason and the 104 seems to be to hot and the 93 leaves quite a bit of hang up. I have no clue about the LX wicks and am looking for a starting point to test. Thanks...
  21. Here ya go :smiley2: http://swanscandles.com/store/soy_blends_natural_waxes.html
  22. With everything that I have tested so far it is better than CBA, IMO. I have not tested may fo's but the ones that I have tested (banana bread & mango)I have been real happy with the results. The more I pour this wax and tweek it the better it looks. I pour it a little different than the CBA, meaning hotter. The only downside that I have found is the htp wicks that I am using. They tend to burn off center and if I don't get them place exactly right it shows up in the melt pool. :embarasse That is the only downside so far and is caused by operator error.
  23. You might try looking into Accu-Soy wax. I have been testing this wax and it acts a lot like CBA. I have been a CBA user and I am really liking this new wax. Here is a link to the thread: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43406 I haven't seen any other posts about this wax. Good luck!
  24. Hi again, Another udate here. The new pix are of the same batch just lit. You can hopefully see the markings (frosting) on the outside of the jar. I have this jar wicked with a htp 104. Now I did get the wick off center by mistake so don't punish me too hard. :embarasse I am really surprised by the hot throw. I did not expect to have any until the candle has cured some but I smells pretty good. http://www.atvbarn.com/atvbarn.htm Sorry the pix aren't any better, I am working on that.
  25. Looks pretty good. I like the color and container! Good job.
