  • About You
Getting back into candle making after a long hiatus. I'm self employed and a part time dog trainer. Currently helped one of my dogs become a certified therapy dog. I tend to only work with Rotties and I'm able to train your dog in personal protection (bite or non-bite work), therapy, assisted living, search and rescue, soft mouth retrieval, basic and advance obedience.

  1. Puma...you are very right! I was lucky to have Brenin...every day in his company was a blessing. The rabbits are so unique. Until almost 4 years ago, I had never touch a rabbit before in my life. My husband, who's a recovering alcoholic and prescription drug addict, had just come out of rehab after loosing his job and a suicide attempt. This man knew nothing really about living life, his self worth had always been based on his work. I took him to a rabbit rescue in our area with the intent of us helping with the rabbits...cleaning, feeding, watering and so on in hopes helping my hubby find some self worth by doing something different. I have a picture of him holding one of the rescue rabbits in his arms and the look on his face was just incredible. That's when we got into fostering some of the rabbits instead. Best decision ever made. In the end, we adopted 2 of our fosters and have never looked back. We went to our first rabbit show and we were hooked. We found a breed that we fell in love with and almost 4 years later we have what you see on our fb page.
  2. So after looking over the notes I made on all 7 of the candles I tested with this wax back in 2008, I have come to the conclusion I was clueless. I was all over the place and almost started making the same mistakes again this time around. I had to have a "come to Jesus" meeting with myself. So here's what I've done instead of just jumping in willynilly...I poured 3 candles tonight...I know, don't want to overwhelm myself( insert sarcasm in that last part). 3 candles poured, no color, no scent...3 different wicks in each one...rrd40, cd16 and 52-something-18z. Tomorrow night I'm going to light all 3 at the same time and see which wick, if any, work. The advice from everyone has finally started sinking in a bit.
  3. Welcome back, Rich...seems like a lot of us oldies are coming back.
  4. Thanks OldGlory...Brenin was a special boy as I'm sure yours was too. I was blessed from the moment Brenin entered my life until the day the day he left. Makes the his loss all the more painful right now.
  5. Puma...the avatar I'm using is my sweet boy Brenin. I lost Brenin just a little over a month ago after having him for over 13 years. He was a retired therapy dog of 7 years...the last 3 years of his therapy service was spent helping children read through a program called R.E.A.D. So in addition to visiting our local hospital and elderly housing, he worked with K through 2nd grade every week until I retired him last summer because of failing eye sight. Brenin was the love of my life. As far as the rabbits go...you can see them on Facebook at Cadillac Mountain Rabbitry. We have a show coming up in November and I'm hoping for a better turn out with our rabbits since we haven't done well all summer. It was so hot that they all started blowing their coats and because Silver Fox are considered a dual purpose breed...fur and meat...lots of points are placed on them having a great coat.
  6. I have 4 50 lb boxes of the 1288B. While I'm finishing it up, I'll start looking at other waxes to try and test. I've got c3, but I haven't been very successful with it. I'm finding it to be as difficult now as it was 7 years ago. I'll just keep plugging away.
  7. I just realized I posted this in the wrong area. If an admin is able to move or delete this post I would really appreciate it!
  8. This is the 2nd time I've taken up candle making after a very long hiatus between. I kept meaning to get back into this and could never find the "right" time. The last time I made a sellable candle was in 2008 and I was dabbling in paraffin along with C-3. I live on the Downeast Coast of Maine, I own a hair salon and in my down time I show Silver Fox rabbits in addition to running a micro farm. So I'm excited to be working on this venture AGAIN and I just wanted to pop on and say HI to everyone. Kimberly
  9. I have been sitting going and going and going through old candle records trying to find ANYTHING that might have to do with this wax...I found records on 7 test candles, so now I have a place to start. If nothing else, I can use up the 4 boxes I have of the IGI 1288B while I work on testing some new waxes to take it's place. *sigh*
  10. I found posts from when I first tried this wax and how excited I was about it, but I never posted exactly what and how I was doing things.
  11. I stopped making candles back in 2008 because of problems I couldn't work out with soy...apparently towards the end of my candle making "career", I purchased a huge amount of IGI 1288B. It's been so long, I'm not really sure why I didn't continue with that wax. So needless to say between soy problems, full time job, hubby with health issues and just general life happening...candles seemed to fade out of my life. Now I'm trying to get back into it again... I have missed making candles over the last 7 years. So back to the soy I went and I had the same problems I had the first time... just can't seem to get it together with soy. So I decided that I would use up all the paraffin wax I have but now I have I no notes AND no directions to follow as far as melt point, pour temp or even the amount of FO to use with this wax. If someone has information or can help me dig up information on IGI 1288B, I would be incredibly grateful. Kimberly
