  1. Peak's is really quite nice. I must admit I was fooled by its delicate nature oob, but once cured it's pretty splendid. It's a soft and sweet pumpkin that throws really well!
  2. I actually don't use the traditional melt packages because I make mostly silicone molded melts (pumpkins, skulls, etc). I just place my melts straight in the poly bags and it preserves them beautifully. I suppose you could store the melt package in a plastic bag as well (even grocery bags); should lock in the scent nicely!
  3. Hey there! How you store the melts will determine their fragrance longevity really. As long as they're in plastic; cardboard alone sucks the fragrance right out just as paper bags do with food. I use the poly bags (Peak); they're formulated to lock in freshness and keep out moisture. I have melts that I've made over a year ago that smell stronger than before! Most scented wax made with quality FOs becomes more potent with time when properly stored.
  4. So glad you posted this! Long before I ventured into candle making, my go-to candle was the Home Interiors Baked Apple. Smelled amazing throughout the whole house! I had not realized that RE sells this. I love RE; I will be ordering this one soon! Gotta love those 80s fragrances!
  5. Yes! I have so many samples; I hope to get to this one this week. Smells amazing oob!
  6. I just tried CS Apple Harvest this morning; my house smells amazing! Can't wait to test, thank you all for this suggestion.
  7. I love Rustic Escentuals "Coffee House". It's great on its own, but I had wanted to make a great caramel macchiato so I blended it with "Kickin Caramel" and "Sugar Cookie" and it smells just like a Starbucks!
  8. Thanks again! I love Vanilla Pumpkin Marshmallow; it seems pretty mellow when first blended but once cured I get a great throw from it. It actually smells a bit like the great pumpkin blend you suggested. I have Peak's Honey Pumpkin Chai; need to try it. Smells so great and strong OOB!
  9. Candybee, The Pumpkin Gods have sang and this blend is amazing! Thank you for sharing! "Pumpkin Souflee" from CS is actually almost identical to Fillmore's, which had always been my favorite, so anything mixed with it is going to be good! The spices from the two other FOs really round out the souflee to a gorgeous spicy, nutty and creamy pumpkin blend. I cured the FO over the weekend and added it to wax this morning. Can't wait to test burn! This was actually my first order from Rustic Escentuals; I am beyond impressed! All of their pumpkins are REALLY great as stand alones. "Pumpkin Creme Brulee" and "Pumpkin Bread" are stellar. Thanks again for your suggestions!
  10. I actually use paraffin; a 4786/4625 blend. Yes, this fragrance is quite good. I am not even a lemon FO fan really, but this one I like!
  11. I wish I could find oils that I really love from them because they do have a good selection. There is only one that I really love and it's "Frosted Pumpkin". The cold throw is divine but unfortunately it has no hot throw. I will still use it in my freestanders though because it smells that good. "Caramel Latte" smells good cured but nothing like coffee; it smells exactly like caramel popcorn though. "Vanilla Bean Noel" is quite good too, cures nicely as a marshmallowy alternative to plain old vanilla. "Lollipop" is good. It smells more like a lemon lollipop really. I must say that I cured a small jar for only 24 hours and got a great hot throw super-fast! The others I won't list; I'll stay in classic JS style and only post the positives!
  12. Yes. This sounds like a lot of excuses to me. They seem to be overly-sensitive to criticism and have a hard time accepting honest reviews without being defensive. Here is a quote from their site: "When calling or emailing and you are frustrated, mad or upset; take a breath. Remember, a little kindness goes a long way. We are here to help you and we want to help you. If everyone could spend a little time on the receiving end of someone who is unhappy or upset, the world would be a much more gracious, patient and humble place. We are not just faceless people behind a computer screen or on a phone line. We are more than happy to help you with any issue you have, but we are not here to be yelled at or cussed at. If we have made a mistake or you are having problems, we will work it out, but we will not tolerate abuse of any kind." I don't know about you guys but as a business owner I can't stand reading things like this; it makes me afraid to ask them anything because I'll offend them. We don't need to know this, quality oils and exceptional customer service should speak for itself. I certainly do not intend to come off criticizing JS, but I was inordinately disappointed with my recent order with them. Some of the oils were just plain bad; even worse after curing and burning. So, the amalgam of their defensiveness and mediocre oils has left me with not wanting to purchase from them anymore. Sorry JS if I offend you.
  13. Thank you so much Candybee; I truly value your opinion and suggestions. I'm placing my orders today; so excited to try all of these Fall fragrances! Thanks again.
  14. Awesome! I had not realized that Rustic Escentuals has so many Pumpkin FOs! I'll be ordering the Pumpkin Pie and the others from CS, excited about this blend. I had previously ordered 6 of Just Scents' pumpkins. Only ONE smells really great OOB/cold throw, Frosted Pumpkin. However, it has virtually NO hot throw, nothing. I was SO disappointed so I am kind of done with them. Thanks again Candybee!
  15. Hi Candybee! Perusing through old threads and I want to try this formula. CS is Candlescience but who is AH? Thank you!
  16. Well said! I appreciate your enthusiasm. I shall email them as well and see how they respond.
  17. Hey there! I've been running a lot of tests for my Fall line; I've been using straight 4786, and a blend of 4786/4627. I do have to say that side by side I have virtually no flickering with my straight 4786. The 50/50 blend with 4786/4627 however, is dancing around quite a bit. I don't mind the dancing really, but I do love the steadyness of the straight 4786. It's funny because I think about all of those new flameless candles with the realistic dancing and flickering bulbs, people love it because that's what they expect real candles to do! But I understand how as a chandlers we may prefer the steady flame thinking that a dancing one might get out of control, but most of the time, they don't. Maybe you're wondering why I blend if the 4786 is so great on its own; I've added the 4627 to my 4786 because it slightly improves my glass adhesion, it makes the wax consistency super creamy, its fragrance load is a bit higher, and I have a whole case of it in the basement that I need to use! Anyway, I made a candle today with 80/20 blend (less of 4627). I'll let you know if it dances as much when I test it.
  18. I use these little votive jars, they're great! For these I use Peak's Cotton Cores in a c-30 or c-40, depending on the fo. I really love these wicks for votives, they burn clean and bright with no ugly mushrooming like with zincs. I've used these with 4625, 4786 and 4627.
  19. I just received another order from Fillmore; can I just say that "Creamy Vanilla Chai" is so amazing! Spot on. I adore Fillmore's fragrances; I find them very strong and accurate to their descriptions. "Sugar Cookie" and "Pumpkin Souflee" are also stellar!
  20. Thanks OldGlory! That sounds amazingly descriptive; I will definitely try their version!
  21. For some, but spooky is year round for me; my candle business is of the horror novelty genre. The actual Halloween Season however is extra busy for me so preparing this early insures that I get everything done! Incidentally, I adore Fall fragrances all year and value everyone's favorite picks!
  22. Oh yes, of course! I do a lot of tests in smaller 4oz jars just to get a feel for fragrances and wick combos. So, if I'm melting 4oz of wax I use 1/4 oz of fragrance (although I typically use 5% load, so a little less than 1/4). If I melt 1/2 lb wax, I use about 1/2 oz of fragrance. 4oz wax = 1/4 oz FO 8oz wax = 1/2 oz FO Hope this helps!
  23. I've gotta try this Apple Harvest from CS! Thanks everyone!
  24. That sounds amazing, thanks Candybee!
  25. Greetings Everyone! I've been testing some apple fragrances for my Fall line; it's only April, I know, but everyday is Halloween for me! Anyway, I was super excited to get Peak's "Warm Apple Pie" and "Caramel Apple"; so, I made some jelly jars with them and, meh. I really don't care for either of the cold/hot throws; "caramel apple" smells really artificial to me and "apple pie" is nice, it just doesn't pack the pie punch I am looking for. I am really on the hunt for great apple bakery fragrances, I would love to hear all of your suggestions! Thanks!
