  1. Hello Everyone! I am on the hunt for a really great ice cream FO and I would love your suggestions. Even if it's a good cream/vanilla/berries I'm all ears! I've tried "Summer Scoop" from Flaming Candle and although it smells uncannily like a Baskin Robbins (truly does), there's an odd and almost peppery note I can't get past. Has anyone tried Just Scent "Neapolitan Ice Cream"? There are no reviews and it's only available in 1lb; I hate to buy a whole lb and not like it. She also has an "Ice Cream Sandwich" I'm curious about. Thanks in advance!
  2. Wow! This must only happen once a year and it's happening now through the 31st. Awesome! Peak 50% off UPS shipping NEWYEAR17
  3. I actually have some 1343 in the basement I'm going to try; the opacity thing makes sense because my 4786 is about as opaque as you can get. I'll let you know how it turns out!
  4. Thank you and yes, I actually have tried this but with blue. It worked somewhat but I was still left with some chip residue. I ordered hunter green chips a few days ago and I'm going to give it a try since it's darker. Now I'll have to try purple as well!
  5. I'm using my wax tart blend 80/20-4786/4625. I'm going to try straight 4625 and see if I can make black successfully. I'm wondering if my 4786 just doesn't like black dye!
  6. I use the liquid from Peak. It's weird because I once managed to make a successful batch without the smell but it seems so hit or miss for me. I may try another supplier and see if it makes a difference.
  7. Hello Everyone! Making black wax has been an ongoing struggle for me; I just can't seem to get it right. For years I've been "settling" with gray wax but I need black! Here are my problems: Black liquid dye: It has a very potent magic marker odor even after the wax has been blended. If I use any more than 5 drops per pound my wax stinks. It completely alters my FO. But using less to obviate the odor creates gray wax, not black. Black dye chips: I thought this would be the solution since they are virtually odorless however, they don't blend well with the wax. No matter how long I mix even on a higher heat the particles just sink to the bottom. And I'm still left with, yep, gray wax. I was at Target the other day and I saw this line of candles for men; they struck me because they were in matte black danube jars and when I opened them, behold, gorgeous jet black wax with jet black wicks! Ugh, how do they do this?!! I've been struggling with creating black wax for far too long and I need help! The struggle is real. ?
  8. I couldn't test without this approach! It makes it SO much easier.
  9. Peak used to be my favorite supplier and sadly between the lack in stock and the turn-around times I've been using other suppliers. I placed an order last Sunday night and by Wednesday it still had not been processed. I contacted them and she said they have been behind because of the Holiday. It was finally supposed to arrive on Friday and UPS forgot to put my box on the truck and I have to wait till Monday. Double whammy! So, $18 shipping to get my order 8 days later. On a positive note, I have truly been enjoying Flaming Candle's Christmas FOs; the throws are really strong with my melts even after only a one-night cure. Flaming Candle ships super fast as well, which is always appreciated!
  10. Update: Finally received the Black Friday promo for Peak. They said they were keeping it simple and are offering $15 off $100 or more. They are still out of stock with 4786 and have been for over 4 months now. Bummer, if they had it I would have a justifiable reason to spend $100!
  11. I haven't experienced that with the FO I'm using, it could just be the Just Scent oil. I use HTP wicks and 4786/4627 blend. I will say that I had been searching for a great Peppermint Patty and finally found it with Flaming Candle. I had tried Lonestar's Peppermint Bark and it was putrid and just odd. As far as your fo, I remember going through something similar with citrus fos, they smelled fine cured but once burning they created this odd fuel smell. It's something scientific that a conclusion could never be drawn on. Oh the frustrations of candlemaking! Yet we keep doing it, it's madness!
  12. Hello All! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! It seems like all the major suppliers are having Black Friday deals except for Peak. Actually, I haven't received a newsletter from them since October! I hope they have one soon, if anyone knows let me know please! Anyway, after making a huge Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, of course I'm back in the kitchen making candles today! I'm making tumblers with Flaming Candle's "Mocha Mint", it smells amazing! Just like Peppermint Patties! What are you all making/buying this weekend? Please share!
  13. On the HTP note, I use them religiously and once I've started twisting them they work brilliantly! There are so many pros with HTPs and with just some twisting it obviates the uneven burn. I always twist them prior to adhering them to the glass; making sure to place my fingers where the tab meets the wick so it doesn't come loose in the twisting process.
  14. I was looking for these as well; I really wanted to get a wider jar I can double-wick. Plus, it seems to be a really popular style for candle consumers. The only place I could find them was The Jar Store as simplyfragrant mentioned. I just ordered a case and can't wait to try them out!
  15. Greetings Everyone! Okay, I've tried 3 different gingerbread/gingersnap fragrance oils from JS to RE to SOS. None of them are winners for me; either weak or just plain not gingerbread. I would LOVE to hear your suggestions for the ones you use, there must be a great one, somewhere? Thank you all! (FYI, something glitched and my topic posted twice.)
  16. Aww, thank you Candybee! I really love Witches Brew, I want to use it in some tureen jars that I painted black to look like cauldrons. I just haven't had the time to test yet! But Halloween is year round for me so maybe over the Winter I'll test. I've gotta try that Christmas Hearth, I always love your suggestions!
  17. Hey there! I use 4786 for everything and I blend depending on what I am making. For melts I use 4786 and 4625, 80/20. I add the 4625 for rigidity; 4786 is a bit too soft to use as a standalone for melts. I couldn't do my craft without 4786, it is so creamy and opaque and it has a killer throw!
  18. Thank you all so much for your overwhelming feedback. It means so much coming from all of you because I have such a great respect for all of the chandlers on this forum. I've learned so much here and continue to learn everyday. I have two little ones at home that keep me super busy so I must squeeze in time for candlemaking! That's why I don't do things in a larger production scale yet but I hope to in the future. I'm working on some new items for my shop now, but in the meantime for those of you who wanted to see more of my candles here is a link to some pics. SickWix Gallery Thanks again everyone! ❤️
  19. Thank you so much! Yes, on the jars I use rusted craft wire. I'll post some more pics soon, thanks!
  20. Thanks everyone! I actually do have a light "SickWix" watermark in the corner of my images; I used to have my larger and brighter logo but I felt like it distracted too much from the photos.
  21. Thank you so much! It's truly an honor coming from you. These are actually more of the "normal" items that I make; I thought I would spare everyone from the horror and gore! To answer your questions, the jar candles I sell on my Etsy for $38. For the labels, I design them to look handwritten and print them on coffee-stained label paper. Thank you!
  22. Hello Everyone! October is here! Hooray! ? I haven't posted pics of my candles and melts here before so I thought I would share a few things I've made. I would love to see your Halloween/Fall creations as well. Happy Spooky Season Everyone!
  23. Hooray! I received my 4786 slab from Aztec and I am beyond happy! It's just perfect; white, creamy, firm, no condensation and no petroleum smell! Thank you Aztec, now I can work! ?
