  1. Boogieluv, I am going to try this 4627 and 4786 combo; have you found you have to wick up with this vs straight 4627? Incidentally, do you find the LX to be the most successful with this combo? I will be wicking an 8oz jelly with this new combo, after relentless struggles with the straight 4627!
  2. They can be pricey but the consistency of lightning fast shipping is worth it to me.
  3. I was being a bit facetious, I adore SOS. Although a lot of their FOs are similar, they have just as many that are dead-ringers for accuracy. Like "Garlic", "Fresh Dirt" and "Band-Aid" is awesome! Gym socks is really gross, even for me! But I may find a use for it just yet! What I meant by altered is blending with other FOs for my own taste. I'm still new to all this lingo!
  4. Greetings everyone! Okay, this won't last long but here's my rant: Does it drive anyone else CRAZY seeing YouTube videos of "candlemakers" talking about how easy it is and how a kid can do it?!! All along they melt the wax without a double boiler and don't even check temps! Yes, it may be easy to make a candle, but to make a great candle is a science! I've been spending the last year still trying to wick a decent candle and seeing these videos is, well, ughh! I have an inordinate amount of respect for all chandlers, but please quit telling us how easy it is! Done. I feel better, back to the lab.
  5. I've tried an inordinate amount of different birthday cake FOs trying for the right one. Just Scent's is really the only one I like for its lack of chemical smell like from other sources.... I'm testing with the 4627 and I get a really good throw with 8%. Any more and it sweats really bad and any less suffers in the throw. My house smells so good when I use this! But just to satisfy my curiousity, I ordered a sample of Peaks. We'll see how it goes!
  6. Great work indeed! Incidentally, I requested a fragrance from Save on Scents to replicate the uber metallic smell of a wet penny or a brass doorknob. They said they didn't have any plain metallic base but they'd let me know. A couple months later I checked their new fragrances and they had "Metallic Copper" which is said to resemble a corroded penny. I ordered it of course and although it is metallic it's still not quite there for me. It has a strong cinnamon note but only on the hot throw. I actually added a drop of SOS "garlic" to make it more metallic, which helped but I would LOVE to figure out a metal FO on my own. You sound indeed like the expert to ask here; do you have any suggestions or offerings for a super metallic, bloody penny FO? Thanks!
  7. I see this is an old post but I ordered Hoppes 9 from SaveonScents. I really like it!
  8. I'm a novelty candle maker so naturally I turn to Save on Scents for their "off the wall" FOs. But I've yet to find one from them that's great as a stand alone... The ones I order always have to be altered. I find so many of their fragrances to be on the weak side, regardless of their "Xtreme" status. I feel as though they're in a race to concoct as many off-beat FOs as possible without really investing in the product and its accuracy. Don't get me wrong; there are some great FOs from them but I find the quality lacking; also, so many of there FOs smell exactly the same. Don't be surprised if you order "Gym Socks" and it smells just like "Pretzel"!
  9. How great is this!!! This inspires me to make my first pillar!
  10. So agree with boogieluv... 4627 is one tough wax to wick. After the excruciating wick battle with it, I've decided to mix with a pillar blend- 1343 and wick with LX. I'm going to test this week so I'll post regarding my results....4627 has some incomparable qualities but wicking is not one of them! This is at least my experience with it; even through different FOs, containers, temps, etc.... My reason for blending is to harden it just enough to hopefully reduce the mushrooming and dancing flames of the straight 4627!
  11. I use a half lb. 4627 per lb. of 1343; this is for my tart melts and it works beautifully. I also merge these two waxes for container blends; the 1343 cuts some of the viscosity of the 4627; which, incidentally, is super hard to wick as a stand alone. The 1343 is great all around!
  12. Thanks! This helps... Incidentally, can you add fragrance to already fragranced wax?
  13. So glad I came upon this thread; I am currently in a scramble trying to wick an 8oz jelly jar/ IGI 4627... Simple enough, not! Every test with HTP's has been unsuccessful. If the melt pool is full, then the flame is super high and smokey. If the flame is good then the melt pool sucks.... Argh. I noticed the CandleScience wick guide update as well and just ordered a sample pack of LX's. I hope to a find a winner!
  14. Hello! I've made a 2lb batch of wax with fragrance; I poured one candle as a tester and the remaining wax is left in the pouring pitcher. It's the perfect blend! Now I'm going to finish making the candles from this wax batch in the pouring pitcher. Will this wax lose any of its properties (fragrance strength) from the remelt? Thank you for your replies!
  15. This is so depressing! But at least I know that I am not going crazy and that this is an actual problem for others as well! Thanks!
  16. I use one of those large stainless steel candy scoops. Works great! I may also try the "putting on gloves and using my hands to scoop it out" approach.
  17. Hello. After many tests and research, I have deduced that it is the citrus based fragrance oils which cause the "lighter fluid" and/or fuel smell when the candle is burning. This is so unfortunate; I was wondering if anyone has ANY solution/suggestion outside of adding vanilla? I have also tried several different pouring temps to no avail.... Please HELP! Thank you! ( I am not making citrus scented candles, however, the base notes of the FO are citrus based.)
