  1. I've purchased the premium wooden wick and ribbon wick from northwood. They arrived today, unfortunately I'm working midnights and 12hr shifts. When I have free time I'll test them out. I believe it was an amazon seller, but I'm not 100% sure. I'd have to check. They weren't anything fancy or expensive. They're actually pretty cheap and poorly made. They're just absolutely beautiful and I wanted them to work. Oh well, they'll make a good addition to my fire starters 😄
  2. That's incredible thank you!
  3. I actually started with the IGI 6006 and used that for years. I stopped making candles due to college/not having enough time/being broke. After graduating, I started back up with my trusty old 6006. I felt as though I hadn't really researched other waxes before using the 6006, but I already knew just about all I could about the 6006. As I started making candles again, I had read about so many different waxes and what they offered individually. I wasn't completely satisfied with the 6006, even though I was content with it. I wanted to try straight soy as I hadn't done that before. I fell in love with the gb 444 wax. I also wanted to try a straight paraffin to see if it really offered an amazing throw as all of my research had said. I've made melts that smelled very strong and threw like crazy. They were too soft for my packaging. I just like to ask anything I can think of to get the best input and advice. I do not switch from wax to wax. I do have a few different brands just so that I can test and mix to see how They turn out. Mostly, my waxes are for tarts. I only stick with one wax for my containers and that's the 444. I am still testing wicks. My process : I heat wax to 185•, add FO (usually never more than 8%) and pour at a few different recommended temps to see what each one looks like. I use 3"dia. Jars. I have oils from Candlescience, the flaming candle, and fragrancebuddy. I don't use dyes in my jars. If they contain soy, I let them cure for at least a week and a half. I've learned sooo much just researching from this forum. I'm very thankful for each and every one of you.
  4. Where do you get your FOs? I want to try natures garden but I'm not sure.
  5. I mostly use CS and they're pretty strong. I'm just picky
  6. You're probably right. I use Cs, FB and TFC for FOs. I have these waxes : IGI 6006; GW 464; 444; premium paraffin; and IGI 4630. If I remember correctly, isn't 4625 the Vaseline consistency wax? I've never tried it but I've heard great things. When you say the flaming candles wax is compatible, do you mean Their problend 650 votive and pillar wax? When i went to order the Ky wax, shipping was outrageous, but I just rechecked and it isn't that bad. Would you recommend the 650 or ky?
  7. I've tried a few differentwaxes blended together, but haven't been able to get an incredible scent Throw like I want. It's really good, just not there yet. Also, they seem a bit soft, even after adding paraffin. What do you use/suggest for wax tarts/melts? (not clamshell.) I've been researching GW 416 and it seems to be pretty decent. Has anyone used this for tarts? And do I need to add anything to it? thanks a million **edit : I'd like them to be a bit harder so they don't melt in your hand or in the bag. I wanted to try ecosoya pb but it has been discontinued. And ky is too pricey with shipping.
  8. I put mine standing up in the cello bag. I use 4x2x9. You could probably do 3in for a closer fit but I prefer mine a little loose as it seems to keep wax off of the bag. Heres how I do it (not my photo, but this is how I stack them)
  9. I bought some wood wicks recently and tested them out. After I light them, they immediately flame 3-4inches high. They burn like they're doused in gasoline. I've read about soaking them in olive oil, but I'm not entirely sure what this does. The wood wick doesn't have a size. It's just a small cross. Thanks!
  10. I messaged you talltayl. Here are photos of the IGI 4630 with different wicks.
  11. I think I like the IGI 4630 better than the IGI 6006. I'll just keep testing everything. Thanks everyone
  12. I've been using IGI 6006 for two years and I know that wax very well. I'm just not getting a good throw. I've tried almost every wick you can imagine. And I do not use dyes. Just Fo
  13. I've tried so many different waxes with so many different wicks. I cannot find two that work well together while also giving great hot throw. I'm trying to IGI 4630 now with a zinc wick. Haven't reached a full melt pool yet, which is fine because it's only been burning an hour. I've tried GW 464, IGI 6006, IGI 4630 and a 100% paraffin. I can't find one that has amazing throw for my 3" jars. I really don't want to have to double wick but it seems like I may have to. I was thinking of making my own blend but I wasn't sure if I was supposed to use additives? (Vybar and such) What waxes have you found give the best throw? I ran into this issue a while back and this is the same reason I quit making candles years ago. I'm beginning to think maybe I'm just too picky. I've found wicks that work but they mushroom and soot and I don't want that. My flames always seem to flicker as well. I'm not sure if that's too much FO % or what. I also was researching the differences in GW 464 and 415, or 444. From what I've found, 464 has the best throw and has additives while the others are pure soy. Also, IGI 4630 harmony blend and 4627 comfort blend differences. The only thing I've found is the harmony blend is the same as the comfort blend in slab form. Sorry for such such a long post. Anyhing helps. Thanks in advance as usual! ****summary: what's the best container wax for throw or should I make my own blend (& do I need to add vybar or other additives?) what two waxes blend well with good throw?
  14. I'm considering buying from fragrancebuddy. Are their oils any good?
  15. I'm trying any and everything. Musky, clean/fresh, fruit. I myself prefer clean and fresh or orange type scents.
  16. I'm trying to broaden my selection of FOs and I don't know many online suppliers. I have always used Candlescience, but I need some new scents. Recently, I placed an order with the flaming candle. I haven't received it yet but I'm hoping their FOs are good. Where do you normally order from and what FOs have you found that create a strong CT/HT? thanks all as usual ☺️☺️
  17. Just wondering which throws a better scent? parasoy, soy, or paraffin. (In your experience.) I've heard paraffin throws best but I'm not sure if they mean with vybar or without. Thanks!
  18. Yes everything else is exactly the same. I don't believe they look smaller but it's possible.
  19. I really need some advice. I've been testing the LX series wicks and they are by far my favorite wick in the wax I use. Here's my dilemma : I've done my research on wicks for hours. Like most wicks, (not all) The LX wick sizes go up in number for larger diameter candles. I've tested almost all of the sizes in the LX Series. I'm wondering why, though, they don't have a bigger melt pool with larger sizes. The LX 18 has a larger pool than the LX 20. The LX 18 had a dancing flame and a ton of mushrooming, but not a lot of soot. the LX 20 had a decent melt pool and limited mushrooming. I haven't seen it soot. I dont understand how the LX18 got so much larger and soot-ier than the LX20. Thank you all all very much.
  20. I never preheat my jars and I am an IGI 6006 user. I absolutely love this wax. I heat my wax to around 188•F then immediately take it off, put FO and dye in. (if using dye) stir continuously for 2min and recheck temp. Then I pour at 180•F. Make sure you are pouring your candles slowly, but not too slowly. I have heated 6006 to 185•F, added FO, and poured at 168•F. This is the lowest I've ever poured at and I still did not end up with sink holes. Are you continuously checking your temp? I know that when I first started making candles, I wasn't checking my temps. I ended up with holes straight down the middle. Pouring too hot/cool was my mistake.
