  1. I'd be interested to hear what others pay too. I talked to an accountant the other day and she wants $300 for a 2 hour consultation. EEK! AND if I decide to go LLC, she doesn't do LLC taxes. So I'm trying to decide whether or not it's worth going to a consultation. $300 seems like way to much!
  2. Yup, $75 an hour. But that was when I ran my Ebay Store and I didn't use her to much. Now I need a REAL CPA I ended up emailing a few CPAs from the Better Business Bureau website and the Chamber of Commerce site. So we'll see! I'm definitely hoping for a free consultation! I hope you find someone reputable too! Enjoy the heat. This bites. I'm so ready for winter (such as it is in Arizona, LOL). Nothing like pouring wax in 115 degree heat. Ick! Have a nice week! D
  3. EEK! That is sooooo scary!! That's exactly why I want someone who is highly recommended (not that they couldn't turn out to be a freak, but you know I called my neighbor again (who works for Economic Development in Chandler) to see if there's anyway she can help me out. The last accountant I found in the yellow pages charged me $75 an hour (even for simple questions, she was charging!). Seemed a little ridiculous to me and she didn't really help me out all that much. I want a good CPA darn it Hope you're staying cool down there! It's been freaky hot here. At least Tucson gets rain! Thanks for the hello D
  4. I'm pulling my hair out here. I'm trying to find a reputable CPA to help me get started with my business. I contacted our local Economic Development center and the accountants they recommended have not returned my emails or calls. I'm a little frustrated. So I thought I would ask on here and see if anyone can recommend a decent CPA (preferably one specializing in small business). I'm in Chandler (I know, the chandler from Chandler . I need to get the ball rolling! Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! D
  5. Thank you I googled around and still didn't find an answer. I'm in AZ. I know that if you make $400 or more, you need to have a business license. I know for a fact that I will make more than $400. My friend was saying that she is licensed as "hobby status". Guess I need to pick her brain Thanks.
  6. Hi all I'm in the process of starting up my business. I don't want it to be a full time venture for at least two years. I was talking to a girlfriend and she mentioned that she is classified as a hobby. I'd never even heard of getting a business license for a hobby. I guess my question is, if you have a website and are selling products, how can it be considered a hobby? I'm assuming it has to do with how much income you bring in each year, but how can your predict how much you'll make? Just wondering if any of you has any thoughts on this. Thanks guys D
  7. Hi all! One of my good friends dropped the ceramic bowl that goes to her Electric Tart Warmer (from Levine's). Does anyone know where I can get a replacement bowl? I didn't see it on the Levine's site. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thank you! D
  8. Yes, thank you Alan and Nachelle! This board is a wonderful resource, and I've met so many wonderful people on here. And after two years...I still stay up late playing with wax and wake up early thinking about formulas and wicks and jars
  9. Those look wonderful! I always love seeing all of your fantastic goodies! Lucky Secret Buddies!
  10. Not sure this is what you're looking for, but this is a great reference if you're trying to decide what fragrances are good for what seasons. http://www.candlebusinesscorner.com/candlescentsforseasons.htm HTH D
  11. Just an FYI, Save On Scents has it. BUT...I didn't think it smelled very similar to the Bath and Body Works version. It seemed like a lighter scent, and it just wasn't as "florally" (is that a word, LOL) . Just my $.02
  12. I liked #3. I think if you do candles, it would look very nice "wrapped" around the jar Just my $.02
  13. Sounds like you're doing a good job with them Keep in mind that some scents will last longer than others and that quality FOs will last longer than cheaper ones If I can't smell my tarts for at least 10 hours throughout my entire 2800 sf house (using an electric warmer)...I won't add them to my line. Just my $.02!
  14. Sorry I can't help..just wanted to say how good you guys are I came up with nothing! LOL.
  15. If I'm making a dozen of the same scented tarts, I'll pour half (I just use the metal pour pot), then go back and pour the other half (rather than pour all 12 at the same time). Less wax in the pour pot = less chance I'll spill it all over. I don't have a problem with the wax sloshing everywhere Just a thought. D
  16. WYW (at BCN) has a wonderful Buttery Gingerbread! Smells very true! HTH D
  17. Is it McCall's Country Store? I've got a girlfriend who is obsessed with this one and I'm on the hunt for a dupe. Here's the description: A tangy blend of rosehips, oranges, apples, cinnamon and spices. It was suggested that Snowtop's Country Grove might be similar (A country blend of oranges, cinnamon and spices. A strong spice blend!). I ordered some, but haven't had a chance to pour it yet. HTH D
  18. What is it with men? I'm sorry he ruined your soap. If it's any consolation...my dh (who NEVER cooks), decided to make fishsticks (not sure that's actually considered cooking). I had told him probably 15 minutes before that I had 5 jars of aroma beads sitting in the oven and not to turn it on. Long story short...I now have 5 jars of gooey melted globs of beads. Grrrr..... D
  19. Thank you guys The whole accounting thing gives me the heebie jeebies, LOL. The last lady I had charged me for every second of her time (even for little questions), so I want to make sure I get someone better this time around (and make sure I get all my questions answered and that I ask the right questions).
  20. Good morning all I'm compiling an interview sheet to take with me when I meet potential accountants. I'm hoping to do my monthly taxes myself, but then hand over all the paperwork at the end of the year and have an accountant mess with it. I'd like the accountant to help me set up my record keeping, and guide me on how to properly file my monthly taxes. I'm wondering if anyone has any questions that I should absolutely ask an accountant? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything! Thanks guys, I appreciate it! D
  21. Ahh, thank you guys I really appreciate your kind words. And yes, every experience is an opportunity to learn. I'm sure there are others who could offer up mistakes they made when they first started selling (heck, we could probably have a huge thread on it!). So all you "new sellers"...money first, then product, no exceptions, LOL.
  22. I stopped by yesterday with a replacement warmer. The chip was so miniscule, I didn't even see it. I replaced the warmer (AFTER getting my money...which I had to ask her for). I think she felt like a schmuck (I had to have her point out the chip). She mentioned AGAIN getting a warmer for her Grandma...my response: "It's $19.95 for the warmer, you can just add it on to your check and I'll bring the warmer by." Guess what....she didn't buy it, LOL. No big loss there. Anywho....lesson learned. Got my money. Thanks again to all of you for your candid opinions.
