  1. I hear ya I've been giving tarts to a few friends for free...with the condition that they give me feedback. My neighbor has yet to give me ANY feedback. I've asked her several times, and I know she's used the tarts. I told her even if they stink (no pun intended), I need to know. For the most part, I test my own tarts, I know what I like and what I expect and I'm picky, but it's nice to get another opinion. Anywho...sorry to go off on a tangent. I think I've decided on a 10% friends (good friends only) discount. Family will get stuff for free (my mom rocks.....would never even think of charging her).
  2. Hi all! I've gotten so many helpful spreadsheets and tips from all of you, that I thought I would share one that's been helpful to me. I hated ordering large amounts of different priced items and trying to figure out what the final price per item is (with shipping included...because a $15.95 16 oz bottle should cost more shipping wise than a 1 oz $2.50 bottle). This nifty little calculator lets you enter all your info and then allocates the shipping/tax/etc. costs to each item appropriately. It's very helpful in figuring out the exact cost of each item purchased. Anywho...here's the link There's also a soap block cutting calculator (but I don't soap, so I can't offer any comments on it http://www.soapmaker.ca/tools.htm Hope it helps someone! D
  3. Thank you guys, you've definitely given me something to ponder I like the idea of a discount...but I'm wondering if I'm going to get into..."well she got 10% off, how come I don't" type of deal. I guess I'll have to figure it out
  4. Excellent Thank you. I've been giving "extras" and have been amazed at the amount of "re-orders" from those extras. I like the set discount, like 10%. I think I'll plan on that route. Thank you guys D
  5. Hi guys Okay, I don't have a business, but I figured this might be the right place to post. I've started selling a few things to friends and family. Do you generally give a reduced price to good friends and family, or do you charge your regular price? I know this is just an opinion, but that's what I'd like Your opinion. Everyone here has just great insight, it's always helpful. Thanks guys! D
  6. Can't help you with your logo, but thought I would add my $.02 on your name. If you're going to do a website, I would stick with Scents~n~Suds (www.scentsnsuds.com). Seems like it would be more logical for people to type in the "s" in the url, than to try to remember that it's a "z" instead of an "s". Hope that makes sense. Good luck!
  7. I've done layered melts a few times and I always wait until the wax is just slightly warm to the touch (not to "mushy" in the middle). I've never had a problem with them blending or separating. Good luck!
  8. Yup...Lemongrass Sage is their discontinued sage
  9. Thank you guys I'm still undecided. I have thought about the SBA, I just haven't really looked into it. And yes, the more you know the better Like I said, I'm not in a rush. I appreciate your thoughts! D
  10. Hey guys I know everyone has their opinions, but I just can't make up my mind on this and thought I might get some helpful insight from the knowledgeable crafters that post here. I've given myself two years to get my own business up and running (time to finish testing and get the logistics down). There's a company here that is offering a business seminar geared toward those who want to run a small home-based business. They advertsise that they'll guide you through what is needed (licenses, registrations, etc). It sounds very informational, BUT it's $75.....is it worth it? Here's what part of the ad says: "From dream to reality; we'll explore which gear (registrations, licenses, permits, trade names, office equipment, etc.) you need to gather; how to set up an efficient working area (aka: your workshop, studio and/or home office); how to manage the mix of marketing, advertising, publicity, and cost analysis; while taking a close look at how to navigate through the pitfalls and rough spots along the way." Did any of you attend something similar? Did it help? I know everyone has different opinions, and ultimately I have to decide, I'm just hoping for some insight to help me make up my wishy washy mind Thanks guys! D
  11. Haven't tried either, but I remember someone posting that the only DayStar FO they didn't like was Watermelon Martini....they said it smelled like stinky feet, LOL. Can't remember who it was...maybe they'll chime in.
  12. I'm also guilty! My dh has been complaining...our pantry keeps getting smaller and smaller, LOL! I have waaaayyyy more FO than I'll ever use...yet I keep ordering more. FOCD...I've got it
  13. Thank you, Trish I had thought of that, but I think I can maybe hold off for two weeks. I'm getting ready for an open house, so I'll just pour what I can and save the ST oils for last.
  14. I know, I'm glad they let us know before we ordered, and I do hope that everything is okay.
  15. Just re-read the post...didn't mean to sound insensitive....sorry if it came off that way :embarasse
  16. Just a mini vent. I'm so frustrated. I've been waiting all week to order my Snowtop oils because they had a sale starting this morning. So I got up and went to their site first thing this morning and ...THEY'RE CLOSED! EEK!!! For two weeks due to family issues! I'm so bummed. I really needed the oils. Crummy. Okay.....I'm going to go console myself with some caffeine.................
  17. Hi! Nature's Garden has a ton of Jelly Belly *type* fragrances, I've personally never used them, so I can't give any reviews, but I'm sure someone on this board can Good luck! D
  18. Just an FYI...I'm a BBW freak THey have the following in their stores: Japanese Cherry Blossom White Cherry Blossom Cherry Blossom A little ridiculous if you ask me, but they all smell differently. Completely different scents! Just thought I'd add my $.02 Sorry, can't help on the dupe....let us know if you find it though!
  19. To funny! You're right though! If I went to the outside of the kitchen, bam, I could smell it. But right around the warmer...nothing..unless I stuck my nose in the warmer. How weird! I'm to picky about my tarts though. I want to smell it everywhere, I don't have the patience for the scent to come out and "find me" LOL. Buh Bye weird wax combo, movin' on!
  20. Okay, guess I'm not the only one with weird throw issues, LOL! I tried a couple different ones with similar results. I don't have any windows open, or anything like that....not sure what's going on. Weird. Okay, on to a new wax combo!
  21. Okay, this is a weird one, LOL. I've been playing around with new wax combinations for my tarts. I love the new look I'm getting, but am having some weird throw issues. I always test my tarts on my electric burner in the kitchen. If I can smell it downstairs and upstairs for at least 9-10 hours, I'll keep it. So I made up some Blackberry Jam Butter Cookies (which I've used before with good results). I cannot smell it downstairs AT ALL...but...I can smell it upstairs??? It's not candle nose, I've gone outside for a half hour and come back in and still nothing. There are no fans on, no heater on (we're in AZ, we don't even know what heaters are, LOL), no weird drafts. What the heck? It's a paraffin and veggie mix combo wax, and I used 14% FO (I know, way to much, but I like 'em strong and I don't sell, so that's how I do it). I had similar results with a different FO in this wax mix. Seems very strange, thought it was just the FO, but now I'm wondering about the mix. Any thoughts? Thanks
  22. Hi guys. Quick question.....do you guys sterilize your roller bottles (rollers, lids, and bottles) before making lip gloss? The bottles themselves are all sealed, but the rollers and lids came in a plastic baggie. And if so, how would you do it? I know, probably basic info..I did search..came up empty. Any thoughts? Thanks guys D
  23. Ohhh! Another supplier to try I'll have to order from Candle Cocoon. I wanted to try their Vanilla Voodoo anyway. Thanks so much, Snap! D
