  1. Thank you guys I'm going to attempt the single 104 today, but I'm thinking I just need to bag the tins and stick with jars. I do the 4 oz tins, and they don't seem to get as hot (but they're single wicked with zincs). I re-burned my 8 oz last night and it was just way to hot. Thank you for the cork on the bottom suggestion, that would work. Guess if it doesn't work out, I'll have a ton of wickless for the ol' candle warmer, LOL.
  2. Sliver...I totally agree. The situation was entirely my fault. I (a) should've told her I was done and closed (I had NO idea she was going to cause such chaos, and since she was a "friend", I didn't want any hard feelings...again, spineless, I know) and ( I have learned a valuable lesson...no money, no product. Yes, I should have held her product until I had cash in hand. This is a business, and I need to treat it as such. It was incredibly stupid (and naive) on my part, to give her the warmer without payment. At the time, I thought I was doing her a favor, in hindsight, I was enabling her to take advantage of me. I'm stopping by her house this afternoon with no warning. I will have a replacement warmer, BUT until that check is in my hand.....she will not get it. Excuses or not, I want my money. If she doesn't have it, I'm going to ask for the warmer back. At this point, I don't really care if she gets upset. I thank all of you for your opinions. I know I screwed up, I wasn't sure how to handle the situation, and I thank you for your advice. I usually don't post these kinds of "vents". I will not do business with her again. It's sad, but I work way to hard in all I do to have to deal with customers who will take advantage at any turn. A crappy lesson to have to learn, but I learned. Thank you for your honesty.
  3. I've got the wicks fairly close to each other (not to close to the sides of the tin). I could NOT for the life of me get a single wick to work with my wax combo. That being said, I didn't try the 104s. I'm a zinc wicker and have decided to switch to the HTPs (which I LOVE), but I'm still trying to figure them out. Thank you for the suggestions. I like how the double wick looks, and it burns so nicely......but I'll try the 104 and see how it does. Thank you
  4. Okay, I've decided to give the 8 oz tins a whirl. I've been using HTPs (double wicked), and while I get a nice steady burn, full melt pool in about 3 hours or so, the tins are getting super hot after about 3 hours or so. Hot enough you wouldn't want to keep your fingers on it . So I guess my question is, "What is acceptable?". I don't sell (yet), but in the waaaaayyy future, I wouldn't want future customers burning their fingers, or having the hot tin ruin the surface it's sitting on. Is it possible to have the tins stay cooler (I worry that if I switch my wicks to a smaller size, I wont' get a FMP)? Any thoughts? Thanks! D
  5. Again, thank you guys. I have definitely decided that she is NOT someone I want to do business with again (as far as her Grandma goes, I have no want to sell her a warmer...money in hand or not...I know how this family is). I agree with you, Purple...I am going to just "stop" by with the replacement warmer (but she's NOT getting it until I have money in hand). I have learned a valuable lesson. Business is business, and you're right, David, a normal business would not let you walk away with unpaid merchandise, there is no reason I should be different. I put ALOT of time and effort into this and I will not "give" my products away. Thanks guys, I appreciate you taking the time to help me out with this. It's sad that there are people like this out there.
  6. Thank you guys. It is so frustrating to deal with this. I had an online store for two years (not candles) and occasionally had to deal with customers who were a bit abrasive, but nothing like this, and it always worked out fine. And you're right, I need to nip this in the bud, get my money, and be done with it or she'll continue to take advantage of me. I like to think that people are honest and fair (and most are), but there are a few bad apples out there that really make it hard. She emailed me this morning asking if she could get a tart warmer for her grandma. I've yet to email her back (although I'd like to say, "Are you freaking kidding?" LOL. I really appreciate your thoughts and insight. Deirdre
  7. Okay, let me premise this by saying, "I don't sell yet". I've been doing candles and tarts for about two years and am still testing BUT, I thought I'd have an Open House and see how some my (well tested) products did and what scents were selling. It was a great turnout. Now, I have a neighbor (who I've done an amazing amount of nice things for), who is one of those people who will try to get something for free no matter what or who is selling to them. She showed up at my Open House (right when I was finished and closing up) with her three kids (two of whom screamed for 45 minutes...and I mean hysterically!). She ate an amazing amount of food (free dinner for her and her kids), and let her children run amuck eating all over my house. And it's partially my fault...I did not tell her her kids couldn't come. THEN she finally finishes up and comes to check out. And *surprise* she has no money with her. WHAT? Why in the world would you come to shop and purposely not bring money? I was nice about it (and honestly, I wanted them gone, they were seriously stressing me out, LOL). I told her she could write me a check the next day. This was a week ago...still no check. Now I will say again....I have been a good neighbor. We've helped them through some difficult times, she's received MANY free products from me, and I often watch her children so she can work (for FREE). She calls me yesterday and says, "I may have to give the tart warmer back". I asked if it wasn't working (it's a Levine's night light warmer and the bulbs are hard to get in). She says, "No, it's got a chip...on the inside". Okay, so it works fine, you can't see the miniscule chip unless you peek inside BUT she was hinting for a discount or for me to say, "Oh, just keep it". I offered to exchange it for her for a new one (but what's to keep her from finding something wrong with the new one?). I apologize for my mini-vent here, I'm just not sure what else to do. At this point, I'm keeping it purely professional, and I will offer a full refund (oh wait...she hasn't paid yet, LOL...and yes, I've learned my lesson). I'm very frustrated. How in the world do you deal with people like this? Thanks for letting me let off some steam, I'm usually not such a "venter", LOL D
  8. Oops....sorry about that. I was thinking the Avery 5294 were 2". My bad
  9. Good morning Avery has a round template you can download: http://www.avery.com/us/Main?action=software.BlankTPLProductSKU&catalogcode=WEB01&softwarecode=4078 HTH! Good luck, those round labels are a pita D
  10. Thank you guys, I appreciate it Off to search............
  11. Hello all! Does anyone know if there is a site or search engine available for searching tag lines? I came up with what I think is a GREAT tag line, but I want to make sure no one else uses it, or that it's not trademarked. If I put it into google, or the trademark searches, it comes up with every single name that has a word of my tag line in it. Any ideas? Thanks guys D
  12. EEk, I forgot to send the sign. I've been crazy busy with Open House stuff. I'm not sure how many are actually planning on sitting at the CT table (I know alot of people have friends there that don't belong to CT). I'm definitely going. Let's do a definite head count and then we can let Kelley know. Sorry, guys. Stupid Open House :rolleyes2
  13. Okay, so there's a 100 threads on what to do for an Open House...but none on what NOT to do,LOL. I just had my first Open House, and thought I'd post a little of what I learned.......(some of it is just common sense, but when you're stressed and rushing about...you tend to forget 1. Don't put free samples of products out and tell people, "Oh, just grab a couple". I had free "mini" tarts available when people purchased tart warmers. I had two different women grab HANDFULS. Be sure to have a sign telling people the specifics (TWO free samples with tart warmer purchase, again, common sense, but something I forgot). 2. If you don't want kids running amuck throughout your home (and trying to eat various products, LOL), DON'T tell your friends, "Yeah, it's okay if you bring your kids". I even had a kids craft table set up so they could make a Mother's Day gift while the moms shopped. I didn't matter, they ran amuck anyway, LOL. Okay, those are my starters. If anyone else wants to chime in, maybe this will help someone with future open houses Oh, one last don't.....don't try baking cookies to serve during the open house. I had a batch in the oven, got sidetracked by a customer, and my fabulous smelling house had instantly turned into a burnt peanut butter cookie house, LOL. D
  14. Crisis averted, LOL. I ordered some more bags from Uline yesterday morning...and got them this morning! I don't think I've ever gotten a package so fast! Thanks again, MaryAnn! D
  15. Mucho Gracias THANK YOU!! Those are EXACTLY what I wanted! I appreciate it! D
  16. Hey all! I'm finishing up some teacher gift baskets and I made a cute poem to stick on the cards I'm making. I'm trying to find a red/white gingham check border to go around the words on the card. I've googled everything I can think of and I cannot find a single site that I can get a gingham red/white or red/cream checked "frame" or "border" from. Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it Thank you!
  17. Thank you so much, MaryAnn. You're always so helpful I figured the same regarding the scent, but I'm short about 10 bags, so I'm just gonna chance it. Thank you! D
  18. I've searched around and can't seem to find an answer. I'm in a pinch. I'm having an Open House this weekend and I ran out of my poly pro bags that I usually package my bath melts in. I ran to Michael's and they have 4x6 ziplock craft bags...so I snatched them up. Of course the employees had no idea if they were poly pro or not. So my question is, if they're not poly pro is that okay? I do mainly tarts and such, and I always use poly pro, but I wasn't sure about the bath melts. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!! D
  19. Hey guys Geltyme, thank you for clearing that up. I think most of us realize that there are always politics involved in every kind of business organization. We were in no way demeaning Rose, just confused about the site name. Thank you for letting us know what is up Everyone else....I'm making a sign for Kelley to put at our table. Her only request was that if we don't have enough people to fill the table, that we allow others to sit with us I told her no problem at all! Should I have it say "Candletech Junkies & FO HOs" ?? Just kiddin'
  20. Hey guys So last year, there were tables marked: "The Soap Dish".....and it was reserved for the women who post on the Dish and were meeting up. Would you like me to email Kelly and see if she would reserve a CT table this year? If you've got other friends to sit with...no worries Just thought it would be easier to meet up if we had a designated spot! Let me know! D
  21. What a lot of work, and how exciting for you I agree with AJ, I prefer to go right to the site rather than have an "enter here" page, but that's just my preference. On the home page, after you enter, there's no link for candles/tarts. There is a button if you click on other links (like after you click on warmers/burners) though, but on the very first page, there is no candles button. Other than that, it looks fabulous Great job! D
  22. I'm sorry you didn't get to many people showing up. That stinks. I'm glad you did have some sales though. Hope the rest of your weekend went well! D
  23. Good luck to you! I have my first one on May 12, and I'm stressing too! People keep ordering things that I've made for the Open House...and I keep dipping into my already done inventory I hope you get tons of sales! And what about calling the sachets Fab Bags? Fab-Beads? BagOFab? Okay...obviously my creativity gene is still asleep, LOL. Best wishes to you! Let us know how it goes!! D
  24. There's been several threads on this scent. Keep in mind that Bath and Body Works has three different Cherry Blossoms (White Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom, and Japanese Cherry Blossom). That being said...I haven't found a good dupe yet for the Japanese Cherry Blossom. Save on Scents has it....not even close (imo). Let us know if you find it D
