  1. After a horrific bad perm back in the 80's(remember this was the decade of the big perm hair and a ton of hair spray). My hair was so dry it began breaking and falling out. My hair dresser had to cut off most of the damage and then she told me to use Olive Oil as hot oil treatment. I just heated it and applied with a cotton ball to my hair and scalp. Be very careful because Olive Oil heats VERY quickly. If you are doing this on a stove top it will heat in a matter of just a couple of minutes. Test to make sure it is not too hot to apply to your hair and scalp:eek: After applying, wrap your hair with a towel and wait about 20 min. When you shampoo your hair apply the shampoo first then the water. I find that if you try to wash your hair by wetting it first it is difficult to remove the Olive Oil. I tried many more expensive hot oil treatments and the simple Olive Oil has been by far the best. You may also want to do a search here for Hair Butter or Loc Butter. There was post about this in the past. I've also read some good things about Monoi de Tahiti oil on hair.
  2. I read a M&P recipe that stated if adding anything like butters(shea, mango...)or food there could be a problem with mold and that using additives requires the addition of a preservative. I've seen soaps posted on the gallery that have things such as yogurt and fruit purees. To those of you that use these in your soaps are you adding a preservative and if so what do you use?
  3. Maybe others do but I simply want them to be more visually appealing as a lip balm and not used as a lipstick for color. I find that when using a container that is clear or has a clear top people tend to be more attracted to color than if I leave them natural. Especially if they are in the type of containers that have a clear top and seperate compartments for more than one balm.
  4. I clicked on the link above at it took me to a site selling golf equipment.
  5. Thanks everyone. I have some mica that I can experiment with and I am also planning an order with MMS for some other supplies so I'll check out the colorings. Thanks again!
  6. What type of dye/coloring do you use for Lip Balms?
  7. That's it!!! Full of good info. as usual Sherie! Thanks!!!
  8. Where are you guys ordering the push up tubes for the solid lotion bars? Someone had a photo posted a while back and the tubes they used were in the same shape of of a Dial or Sure deodorant tube but a bit smaller. They were very cute and I can't remember the suppliers name.
  9. MMS has a wonderful Honey flavor oil and their sweetner is the best I have tried so far. A few other sweetners I have leave a slight bitter taste that I don't care for.
  10. Good work Bunny!!! Oh gosh that looks yummy! Now I am hungry LOL! Forgive the newbie question but when you pour the top layer(white)is it like when making candles you have to pour it hotter to get the layers to stick?
  11. After reading info. concerning it I would just rather not use it either. I thought that it was interesting on the Cosmetic Ingredient Review that it stated ""Although Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is not carcinogenic in experimental animals. It has been shown that it causes severe epidermal changes to the area of the skin of mice to which it was applied. This study indicates a need for tumor-enhancing activity assays." Conclusion - "Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate appear to be safe in formulations designed for discontinuous, brief use followed by thorough rinsing from the surface of the skin. In products intended for prolonged contact with skin, concentrations should not exceed 1 percent." There are many products for bath use(soaks) that contain those ingredients and most people aren't aware that they should be thoroughly rinsed from the surface of the skin. Novicecrafter, I agree with your statement!
  12. The products I've seen with the Menthol Crystals usually had this type of a warning... Caution: Not for use if you are pregnant or nursing a baby. Keep away from eyes and sensitive tissue. Consult a physician before using on children. Keep product away from wounds, damaged, broken or irritated skin. Keep out of reach of children. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease." There has been some problems with use of menthol, eucalyptus and some other essential oils around pets(especially birds). Some labels mention this simply by stating "Not for use on or near pets. Remove pets from room before use. Ventilate well before returning."
  13. I just noticed your location - Kingston, Jamaica. Wow, if anyone knows about beautiful sunsets it would be you. Ok, I think you should host a workshop for all of us that are swirl impaired. We will all be more than happy to join you there! You may have a problem getting rid of a few of us:D !
  14. You are kidding - that is your first try? OMG those are beautiful and they remind me of a southwestern sunset. I can't swirl to save my life. Teach me your secret.
  15. Thanks everyone! Forgive me if this is common knowledge but who is SNC & OPI ?
  16. What are your top sellers/most requested in tropical scents for B&B? I would like to add them to lotions, body butters and possibly soap. I haven't found a really good pinepple yet so if anyone has suggestions concerning that I would appreciate it.
  17. Thanks for posting this. I've seen those burners and thought they were pretty but 12 watts is too low. Especially if you use a wax with a high melt point.
  18. The 5,000 did surprise me but what really concerned me is the fact they won't cover the use of repackage products to be used with your company name. Maybe I am not understanding this clearly because lotion bases and M&P soap bases seem to be very popular. I know of several boutique that use lotion bases, scent and use a custom label for sale in their stores. I can't understand why this wouldn't be covered. I sure hope I am misunderstanding what I read. There is also information concerning the owner not using any products that would be considered flamable. I am assuming that would cover FO's.
  19. I have been looking for insurance and I am very disappointed with what I am finding. I could not locate any for Louisiana and was told to check out RLI. On their site under Underwritting Guidelines it states "The applicant does not repackage food or personal care products to be sold under their own label." So this would include the use of bases that are commonly used for lotions and soaps that many scent, bottle, label and sell? Does anyone have this insurance? It really seems almost impossible for the little guy to get coverage. With all of the frivolous lawsuits it doesn't seem wise to operate without it but where do you get it?
  20. If you don't want "Ocean y" Peaks isn't the one to try. It is very strong! I would suggest trying a sample first.
  21. I've had that problem also and just didn't want to admit it because they do smell great in the bottle and so many people rave about them. I just couldn't figure it out because like you I tweak everything I possibly could. There are a couple out of all the ones I have tried that are outstanding but on a whole I have more that didn't work than that did. There is another company that people seem to be very pleased with that I have had that problem with so I was just assuming it is because I use soy and it tends to be a bit fussy with FO's. I am glad you posted this. Now I don't feel alone!
  22. When giving samples of your products for testing what type of questions do ask the testers? Other than just a general "Did you like it?"
  23. Ocean! It was a big seller and was very strong in the bottle and in the wax but it gave me the worse headache ever single time I used it. One of my pets had some respiratory problems and it all started after I poured that darn Ocean. This was with open windows, fans and overhead ventilation! The sales just weren't worth the headache. I haven't really located anything that smells "fresh" without that didn't have a slight scent same as Ocean. Yuck! Doesn't smell like any Ocean I've been around!
