  1. I am trying to purchase as many of my supplies as I can from one supplier to cut down on shipping cost. One of the items I need is glycerin. The supplier that I located sells it but states that this glycerin is the "natural" form and not the more commonly used "synthetic." Does it make a difference? I will be using it in room air fresheners.
  2. Thanks for starting this thread!!! I'd like to try this! Does anyone know if the basic oils mentioned here could be added to a butter like shea or mango to make a healing butter? If so what amounts? I was thinking of the emu and calendula for sure. I was reading some interesting info on a product called seabuckhorn. According to what I read there has been good success with this used in burn patients, bed sores and a skin problem associated with chemo. treatments. I haven't located anyone that has actually used it. Anyway, anyone know about adding the oils mentioned here in a butter?
  3. I should have explained that a little better - I haven't purchased any FO's from JS yet. I have purchased other FO's from different companies and when I made paraffin candle and soy(I am only doing soy now)I noticed that not all scents were equal in each wax. I learned from experience and wasting alot of money that it's worth the time to see if a FO has been tested in soy. There is a minimum of 10 sample size purchase from JS unless you order 1lb of an FO and then you get 3 free. Well, call me cheap but I don't want to waste my money if there hasn't been good reports with the FO in soy. Being stuck with 10 bottles of FO is alot to me even if they are only sample sizes.
  4. I loved that shampoo! I remember a friend of mine sat infront of me in 6th grade and every time she tossed her hair you would get a whiff of Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific. That scent sure did last!!! I purchased a dupe FO and I believe it was from the company mentioned above. It wasn't a dead on dupe. I would rate it as just ok and a little like the real thing. It may be ok for bath and body products(I used it to scent a shampoo base). I never tried it in a candle. Side note - Several years ago when I learned that they quit selling it here in the US I did a search and found a whole group of people that were also looking for the shampoo - thought I was the only one left that loved it enough to still be searching for it after all these years. When I was searching for the shampoo it was before ebay and I thought I would never get my hands on Gee again. There was an actual letter writting campaign going on to try and get Jergins to bring it back. A couple of years ago I learned that it was being sold on ebay. Seems the shampoo is still available in one place outside the US. I located a seller that assured me what she was selling was the real thing. I bought several bottles and it is definitely the real Gee because I still had a little left from an old bottle. If your sister or anyone else is ever interested in buying any on-line beware that some sellers show a picture of the orginal bottle from the 70's but the shampoo is different. I was told that there is a newer version of Gee and it doesn't smell the same. Also beware of shipping charges. Some sellers were charging anywhere from $10.00 -20.00 shipping per bottle in addition to the cost of the shampoo. When it was first being offered on ebay I remember a bid going as high as $70.00! I am crazy for this shampoo but no bottle of shampoo is worth 70 bucks. Unless I could shampoo my entire body with it and it would make me look like Eva Longoria! Let us know what your sister thinks of the candles!
  5. Anyone ever use this product? I read that it is a great healing oil that can be added to salves or used straight. It seems like it is equal to or better than Emu oil. I would be interested in opinions from anyone that has used it and where you order it from?
  6. I've been considering trying meadowfoam. I read some place that it makes a great hair moisturizer/hot oil treatment but I didn't know if it was any better than jojoba for that purpose?
  7. To those that use soy wax - which of the FO's have you used and liked from Just Scents? I've made both soy and paraffin candles and know how differently the same FO can be in each wax.
  8. I've located a few for the smaller size 2-2 1/2 but I haven't located a supplier for the larger sizes. Well, I did find one but the prices were very expensive and each piece was sold seperate, bottle, sprayer, cap. Anyone have a source for 4-8oz aluminum spray bottles?
  9. I've only tried a few(maybe three)and I didn't have any problem.
  10. To those that use soy wax - which of the FO's have you used and liked from Just Scents? I've made both soy and paraffin candles and know how differently the same FO can be in each wax. I wanted this in the veg. wax forum - I didn't see a delete option here.
  11. Thanks for replying guys! I am going to try one more test and see if that makes a difference. I'll post a follow up with my results. I have both the regular and the Mellinum blend. The first time I used the EL was the regular with the modifier added, 7% FO load, and CD wicks. I only cured them for a few days. I wanted to check the wicks so I burned one a little sooner than I usually do. Expecting the FO to not be as strong as it would be with more curing time. The results were outstanding! I had one candle burning and you could smell it all over the entire house. That says alot for me because what most people consider a strong scented candle I usually consider mild or moderate. This candle was the best one I ever made and it is the reason I wanted to make candles. Being pleased with the results I placed an order for 50 pounds of wax. I followed the exact same methods I had with the first test candles(same FO load, same FO, same wicks...) but this batch of candles were horrible. You could barely smell the candle burning even up close in a small closed room. I even changed wicks - no change. I used wicks from a new package - no change. The only thing that was different was the supplier I purchased the EL wax from. I now have a small bag of the wax from the first supplier and I am going to give that a try and see if it makes a difference and also try a few with the modifier and some without. I just can't figure this one out:confused: ! I was so impressed with my first EL candles that I would even go so far as to say that they were equal if not better in quality as Y_ _ _ _ _ or Tr_ _(not sure if we can mention specfic companies). This is driving me crazy!
  12. Ok, I get it now:D ! Thanks for the help everyone and I'll check out the co-op! Darn! I am looking for a larger size like an 8oz or at least a 4oz. 2.5 is way too small for me. Too bad that's a good price!
  13. Oh no! I was looking over her list the other day and was so proud of myself because I resisted the ordering temptation. Now I am in big trouble!!! Is there a 12 program for FO junkies?
  14. Thanks, but is this product strickly for body use? Is it a base that you add FO to for body AND linen/room air freshener? I was wondering if a product is advertised as a linen or air freshener product if it has to have ingredience that are safe for use on fabrics? Where do you get your aluminum spray bottles?
  15. I am interested in making room/linen sprays. I read some post concerning "cyclo" but the more I read the more confused I get:undecided . Is this product strickly for body care? Someone posted that it was oily and I wouldn't think an oily product would be ok for linens - wouldn't it stain? Do you just add FO to the cyclo and pour into the spray bottles? One manufactured stated tha "Pet packaging should be used because the cyclo may cause degradation in pvc." I was hoping to use a colored aluminum spray bottle(if I can find a supplier for them). Has anyone used cyclo in aluminum - any problems?
  16. Sorry that you didn't get paid. Like everyone else I think they are beautiful candles and I don't think you will have any problems selling them. I think the colors would also look nice with Easter items in a basket.
  17. I've seen a list with top sellers but since FO can be different in soy I was wondering specifically what everyone's top selling soy candles are?
  18. TXSioux, Where do you purchase your Strawberry & Cream and Pomegrant? I have both but the same scent can be so different from one supplier to the next.
  19. I had just started experimenting with Enchanted Lites wax right before I had to take an unexpected break from candle making. I remember that several of us on the old board were using EL wax and was hoping to reconnect with my fellow EL wax users. I would like to know what type of wick are you guys using? I have been experimenting with the CD's which worked fine in the past but for some reason I haven't been getting much throw with my new batch of candles. Just wondering if something has changed with the EL wax and if anyone else has had problems?
  20. Hello everyone! I was just looking over the FO list at Just Scents and was wondering if anyone here has... Oxygen Spring Rain Hawiian Breeze Plum Pudding Merlot Grandma's Kitchen I will be using them mainly in potpourri so your opinions on the scent right out of the bottle would be helpful. I might try them in soy wax as well but for it's strickly potpourri. For some reason people here are still wanting what I consider summer scents(fruit and crip clean scents). I've also had request for a "clean non food scents for offices or bathrooms." I was thinking the Oxygen or Spring Rain might work well.
  21. I wasn't sure what forum this question should be in so I appologize if this isn't the one. Can someone tell me of a mail order supplier for Orris Root?
  22. I have two sizes the large holds about a 6cups and the small holds around 2cups. I have seen the large bags that hold a quart of potpourri sold for $20.00 plus. What prices do you suggest for these two sizes?
  23. Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I lasted posted - maybe 6 months or more. My have things changed! I sure hope my pm messages are still here some place? Anyway, not real sure where this question should be posted so please forgive me if it is on the wrong forum. In the past I have seen very attractive unscented bags of potpourri sold from a supplier but I can't remember who it was? All I remember is that the information with the ad for the unscented potpourri stated they were perfect for adding your scented oils for a custom scent to match your candle products. Does anyone know of a supplier for unscented bags of potpourri?
