  1. I am going to try making some portion cup tarts to add to my clamshell line, or maybe just use as free gifts with purchase. Anyhoo, I am racking my brain trying to come up with what to call the little things. I kept thinking of things to do with shots, but I'm afraid that wouldn't go over very well in my um....older commmunity. Anyone have any clever ideas?
  2. Is IS true that I had very high expectations and entirely possible my nose is immune (I've been doing this for almost six years.) I actually did want to change waxes, though. It is so nice to just scoop out what I need, rather than having to go hammer a slab every time I want to make candles. I had kind of felt the cold throw was unimpressive, but didn't think a lot of it, assuming it was my candle nose, but when I smelled those two side by side, I figured that wasn't it since I COULD smell one of them, ya' know? What really stinks, is I ran out of wax a few days ago and have 30 more pounds on the way! I guess I better figure it out! I did add about 10% 415 to some of the batches, just to use up what I had. I may bump it up to 20% and see what happens. Thanks, all for your help. Ravens, It's good to know there is at least one other person out there who doesn't know if this wax is the HG!
  3. I have let them cure. The Mac Apple I was referring to is at least a month old. I didn't say, but I use 1.5-2 oz FO per lb. in my melts. I use Candle Science, Mill Creek, KY, Lonestar, ICS and BC for scents. They seem to have a weaker cold throw pretty much across the board. Also, I added the FO at the same temp with my previous wax blend, so I'm really stumped. Just the same, I will trying adding it at 160 next time and see if that makes any difference. I can't believe I am the only one that can't make this wax work. I thought I would have the best tarts on the planet with this wax and the FO load I use. Hmpff.
  4. I am fully expecting to get tomatoes thrown at me here, but I am not sure I am in love with this wax. I bought 30 lbs of it (oops) based upon all the stellar reviews here and have made tons of tarts with it. So....is it just me or does this not have the best cold throw in the world? I was comparing a Mac Apple (CS) tart made in both KY wax and my previous blend of 4794/415 and my blend was noticeably stronger AND I used less oil in that batch than in the KY. I am also not blown away by the hot throw. It has just been okay for me. Is there some trick to the temp to add FO with this wax? My usual method is to add it at about 175. I must be doing SOMETHING wrong, based on CT reviews! Please Help!
  5. I turned my Jackel burner over and it says 14W on the very bottom of the burner. Mine will melt 1.5 oz of KY wax, but sometimes leaves a thin ring of unmelted wax around the very top. I test my melts in these burners and figure if I can get a good throw out of them, my custimers definitely will get a good throw when they burn them at home. Don't think Jackel is all bad-you will get a much longer lasting scent, instead of one that is very strong then burns off quickly.
  6. I'm not sure how helpful this is, but... I have Caramel Cinnamon Latte from ICS-I have not tested it yet. OOB, it is yummy...I realize that really means nothing! Also: Vanilla Hazelnut Latte ICS-Amazing cold throw, virtually no hot throw. I don't know how this is possible, but that was my result! Vanilla Hazelnut Mocha MC-Finally, a good one! Great, actually! My husband hates it because he thinks I have made coffee for him! One of the strongest throwing fragrances I have. Sweet Holiday Blend Coffee (LS) I found this to smell not really much like coffee, and had fairly weak hot throw. I used these all in parasoy tarts. HTH!
  7. Wanted to add...I HOPE Scentsy is there. I make primarily clamshell melts, and Scentsy does wonders for my sales! Think the coordinators would look at me funny if I requested a booth next-door?
  8. Wow, you guys are hard core! I have a show this weekend, and another one the 5th, and that is enough for me! No way I could keep up with 7 shows in three weeks. Hope you have some worker elves. Good luck!!
  9. Just kidding about the birthday cake! I just opened it up after curing for a week, and it definitely smells like cake! I just popped a tester in the warmer, and it is yummy! Not sure how strong it is going to be yet...still melting down!
  10. I have an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie tart melting right now and it is fabulous! Also... SO & CP Cozy Home Heather Countryside Cinnamon Stick I also have made tarts waiting to be tested in: Gain - YUM! Lilac Breeze - great cold throw Vanilla Hazelnut Mocha - knock your socks off cold throw Birthday Cake - smells good, I think interchangeable with sugar cookie. going to test burn this one next!
  11. lol, honeybear. As for the FO load, I use at least 10-12% and I don't get smoking. You willl occasionally see sort of a steam effect from the FO burning off, but I think that is normal.
  12. Wanted to add, that while I'm okay with the results of my 4794/soy blend, I just ordered a 30 lb "sample" of the ky tart wax. I am going to have to find a new way to take out my aggressions since I will no longer be beating up wax.
  13. I don't try to cut the 4794. I put a slab in a trashbag and beat the daylights out of it with a hammer. It works best if you prop it up on something so it's not lying flat on the ground. I sometimes use my front step, but the neighbors think I'm nuts. I actually discovered it works much better in my pile of laundry. Also, you may want to double bag or use a pillow case because all that violence can take a toll on a trash bag!
  14. Okay, you guys are starting to worry me. I have been testing my candles to the point of paranoia, and have finally settled on something I think I can sell with ECOs! Ack! I haven't had any of these problems! I wonder where everyone bought their wicks that are causing problems? Maybe we can figure out a common denominator.
  15. Aww, that's a bummer about the Vermont Maple Syrup. I have had a request for it and I'm not having much luck. I tried Mr. Missy's Maple Syrup, and I like it, but I don't really think it smells like Maple Syrup. I think I will try the Plumberry Spice and Sugar Corn Pudding, maybe some others too. Thanks for the info...I'd love to hear some more! Especially curious about the Pearberry!
  16. I'm almost out of tart wax, so I thought I'd try KY's blend everyone raves about. And since it's no fun at all to just buy wax, I figured I'd better try some new fragrances while I'm at it! I have a few picked out based on reviews here, but I am not finding much on: Pearberry Sage & Sweetgrass Vermont Maple Syrup Can anyone tell me anything about these? Or anything else fabulous a first-timer MUST know about? Thanks!
  17. Beautiful products, presentation, and packaging! And a pretty cute kitty, too!
  18. I bought a pegboard tabletop display on ebay (blackriverartgallery-they have lots of great displays!) but it didn't arrive in time for my show (not their fault!) so I wound up going with a ton of baskets from the dollar tree. I could fit 4 each of three scents in each basket, then I put them on risers so I had three tiers of like 4 or 5 baskets across. It actually looked really nice, and I think I am going to do the same thing for my next show. The pegboard would have worked, but I kind of liked the "homier" feel with the baskets. I think I am going to use the pegboard for my aroma beads instead. Really, you can't beat $1 a basket, and they are very easy to transport. Just stack them up and go! They do take up a lot of space in your booth this way, but clamshells are like 80% of what I make, so that isn't a problem for me. If you need the space, I would go with the pegboard or a floor spinner. HTH!
  19. Good to know about rescenting! I sell my 3x4 bags for $3 each or 2/$5 and they sell okay.

  21. Can anyone give me a review of this oil from either of thses suppliers? I have used MC's, but can't quite decide if I think it's strong enough. I have previously used this oil from WSP and LOVED it, but I have ordering from them. I need to order from MC and ICS, so I'd love some input on theirs. Thanks!
  22. Love the lid and the label. It looks much nicer without the hangtag. I recognize your template from Vista Print (my business cards are almost identical to your label) and I'm wondering how you turned it into a label. Great Idea!
