  1. Thanks! Right now, maybe 3 of every 10 scents I test are keepers, and I would like to increase those odds. Hoping a change in waxes will help some!
  2. Nevermind. Called LS and I went with the 444.
  3. Okay, I know the merits of these two waxes have been debated a lot. I did do a search and found a lot of info. However, my interest is strictly for tarts and most of the info I have found has been for candles. So here is my question: I started out mixing 415 with 4794 and did that for years. I switched to mixing 415 with KY parasoy, but with all the talk about the enhanced versions, I would like to try something different with my parasoy to hopefully improve the scent throw. I am thinking that the 444 would be the better choice because of the higher melt point, and it's adverstised by LS as having a better scent throw. Has anyone tried 444 or 464 for tarts who can advise on the better choice? I have also debated to going back to 4794 and mixing it with the 444 instead of KY parasoy....I am pretty nervous about having to retest all of the scents I have perfected, though!
  4. I haven't tried the others, but I will second (or third or fourth) the ickiness of Violet Lime. I can not sell it and it's the only scent I've poured in 7 years of candlemaking that gave me a headache and made me nauseous. I can not stand the stuff.
  5. I found it here: http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/fragranceoils.html for $38.50 per pound.
  6. These are what I have picked so far: Caramelized Pralines - Vanilla Hazelnut Coffee - Tried this in parasoy and it had an amazing cold throw...and virtually no hot throw! Try their Caramel Cinnamon Latte instead! Mocha - Winterberry - Raspberry Lemonade - Pumpkin Spice Latte - Caramel Latte - See above! Lavender Berry - Brown Sugar Pecan - Salty Sea Air - Cactus & Sea Salt - Fabulous!! You can really smell the sea salt. Mangorita - Cafe Vienna - Orange Vanilla Coffee - Enchanted Apple - Pumpkin Brulee -
  7. You are not alone!!! I think the same thing! I used it a 11% in my parasoy tarts, and it is strong, but it reeks of plastic to me. I originally made it using MC's clamshells, which I have heard can sometimes make vanilla-based FOs smell bad, so I tried another batch in Impact clamshells with the same result. My husband doesn't pick up on the plastic smell, so I have gone ahead and taken in to shows, but I can not sell this scent to save my life. It smells like a very plastic Strawberry Shortcake doll to me!
  8. Strawberry Passion: getting rave reviews from one of my testers! Good Ct/HT and long-lasting! Kiwi Watermelon: Didn't fare so well. Tester said it was very weak. I though cold throw smelled just like a wine cooler! Money: Nice, but too light for melts. Doodle Bug: Conflicted on this one. Everyone LOVES the scent but says it doesn't last as long as the rest of my fragrances. Totally bummed about that. They like the smell so much, that they still want me to make it, though! More to come, as I get them tested!
  9. So, I just got some Tin Star from the classies, and have been sniffing all day, trying to figure out what it reminded me of, and it hit me: Peppercorn!! Is anyone else familiar with both of these? Am I nuts? I looked up their descriptions, and while not identical, they do have some similarities....
  10. I just started testing my Money tart, and I actually really like it! It smells very clean! Not sure how long it will last, but the CT is light, HT is good. I would call it a very nice, clean light fragrance (in soy.) I think it would be fabulous in B&B.
  11. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I love Harvest Pumpkin from Cierra. To me, it is a sweet, buttery pumpkin pie. I have also seen rave reviews on here for Lonestar's Butternut Pumpkin.
  12. I was also going to suggest from NG: Tooth Fairy Taffy Doodle Bug Ditto on the Watermelon, too. CS is yummy.
  13. BNL is the one I usually see comments about. I got one off the classies that I thought smelled something like perm solution, but maybe it was just an old oil. Gotta watch those classies! :tiptoe:
  14. Hmmm. lots of fun ideas! I love, "Gee, This Smells Terrific!" Nothing like a little modesty! Why didn't I think of that? I actually have been trying to come up with a fragrance to call Redneck Girl, so those are good thoughts, too. I don't know about "Big Hair!" I think country has moved past that. I hope it has, anyway!! Thanks for your thoughts, everyone!
  15. Oh, I looove it! I haven't burned it yet (trying to be patient and let it cure!) I'm an eighties baby and my my always bought it for me when I was little. Maybe mine need to be "Rockin the 80s" My theme is pretty country/western/rustic so I'm not sure how that would fit in, though!
  16. Does anyone use this in candles and rename it? I rename lots of my scents, but this one has me stumped. I just poured some testers and so far I love it, but I am stumped on a name. "Gee Your House Smells Terrific" seems a little wordy. Description by TN: A floral jasmine type with undertones of rose and carnations. Any suggestions?
  17. So, this is what I got: Beach Daisies Blue Hawaiian Caribbean Doodle Bug Fresh Cut Grass Kiwi Watermelon Strawberry Passion German Chocolate Cake 7-Up Pound Cake Yacht Club Pikaki K.S. In The Mood K.S. Honeymoon Romance K.S. Desire Frozen Margarita Money Bamboo & White Ginger Tooth Fairy Taffy Vanilla Bean Asian Pear & Lily Chipotle Salsa Texas Barrell Cactus Wild, Wild West Mom, The Apple of My Eye Whew! Think it's going to take me a while to get all of these in wax, but I'll try to post reviews as I do. Thanks again, everyone!
  18. Thank you all so much for your wonderful input! I will be placing my order tomorrow afternoon and will definitely update with what I get. Love this board!
  19. Thanks! That particular demographic is probably 40% of my customers, so that should be a hit! Think I'll give Beach Daisies a whirl anyway. I still need something beachy. I LOVE Sun and Sand, though!
  20. Thanks! Anymore suggestions? Also, anyone know how their facebook you-know-what works? I added them as a fb friend, but I can't find it on their page. Probably expired?
  21. Thanks! I think I'll add the Frosted Lime Cupcake for sure. I wonder if it smells like Yankee's Vanilla Lime? Any thoughts on the ones I listed? I need to narrow it down a lot!
  22. I haven't ever ordered from them before, but I want to try a few oils they have. I know some of these have already been reviewed, but it doesn't hurt to ask for a second opinion, right? So, if anyone has any input on these, or any other NG must haves, or must NOT haves, I would love to hear your opinions. I'd especially love input on their performance in soy/parasoy and/or their lasting power in tarts. Thanks! Mermaid Kisses (Is it true that this is the same as WSP's South Pacific?) Beach Daisies (Hoping this is like Sun and Sand) Bermuda Triangle Blue Hawaiian Capri Olivo Caribbean Chocolate Con Churros Doodle Bug Denim Fresh Cut Grass Frsh Outdoors Hawaiian Suntan Home Sweet Home (Wondering if this is as good as BCN's) Hillbilly Homebrew (similar to MC?) Indian Summer Kiwi Watermelon Mango Peach Salsa Biolage Type Cucumber Melon Type (having a hard time finding a good one!) Paradise Reef Peach Magnolia Raspberry Pikaki (trying to find the wonderful smell in the Hawaiian breeze!) Pink Watermelon Sweet Sixteen Twilight in the Woods Vaniglia del Madagascar Wild Wild West Yacht Club
  23. I bought their dyes, and while the dyes may be great, I hate their bottles!! They use plastic flip-top bottles, and mine were a mess within a week. I'm talking I can't touch them without getting dye all over me. My favorite dyes are Lonestar's and Cierra's, and they use glass bottles with an eye dropper. Soooo much neater and less waste! As for the FO, I have tried Cozy Home and Gingerbread in my soy-blend melts, and they were both pretty good. I did not have any luck with the Sweet Pea & Me that everyone else here seems to love. It smelled great cold, but had very weak hot throw in my wax. Maybe just my blend was not compatible? I looove: Vanilla Hazelnut Mocha Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Cinnamon Stick Sweet Orange & Chili Pepper Lavender Vanilla These were all used in parasoy melts. Hth!
