    tart help

I love IGI 4794 for my tarts. I mix it about 75/25 with EZ Soy (same as 415, I think?) to increase the FO load, and I just like the creamier appearance it gives. Happy tart-making. They're addictive!
  2. Wanted to add, I'll definitely order some more LXs to play with. I really liked this wick. And it doesn't fall over!
  3. Thanks for the replies, Chris and murray. I really appreciate the input. The reason for my seemingly haphazard approach is simply those are the wicks I had available. At the time I chose those wicks, A: they were what I had and B: I used a wick recommendaton chart and thought that most of these wicks were comparable in size. Clearly I was mistaken. Guess I'm going to have to break down and order wicks, I was trying really hard to avoid placing an order because it's almost impossible for me to JUST order wicks. boo hoo! Oh, and as for the CDs. I know they curl. I loved this wick 'til the third burn, when they started falling over at the base. The wick at the base of the heart was so far over that it was nearly touching the glass. The RRDs also did the same thing. I use wick stickums from BC; they were definitely still attached. I had to use pliers to get them out. These are like 4-year-old old wicks...maybe that could affect things?
  4. Thanks for the reply. I do like the look of LX (silly, huh?) and wanted them to work. Do you have mushrooming with these? Maybe I would have less if I wicked down?
  5. Okay, so I'm trying to wick the Libbey heart dish (yes, I know there are several posts on these...I have read them all!) and I need help. Not so much with the dish actually, just wicks in general. I think I would have the same issues in any container. Anyway, I am using 50/50 Ezsoy/J223, 9% FO load. This is what I have tested and my results: 3 - 51Z: Full MP on first burn; ended up being much too big of a wick by the bottom of the container. HUGE shrooms, smoking 3 - 44Z: Full MP by second burn, but still have shrooms 3 - CD12: same as 51Z, but less shroom. 3 - CD 8 - Full MP by 2nd burn (maybe a tiny bit on skin on the very top side of heart,) least mushrooming of any of the wicks, BUT: the wicks won't stand up! These suckers keep falling over an hour or so into the burn. Otherwise, this would be my wick. Or maybe a CD 10. Grrrr! 3 - ECO 6: Full MP, Huge shrooms on first burn. 3 - LX 20: Full MP, Medium shrooms on first burn. 3 - RRD 40: Full MP, Huge shrooms by 2nd burn. Sooooo...as you can see, if you made it this far, I have tested.... a lot! I know some of these probably seem like small wicks for the container, but I prefer to wick for the bottom half of the jar to keep it safe. They all achieved a full MP by the 2nd burn. My questions are this: 1. Is there ANY such thing as a wick that doesn't mushroom? 2. What's with the CDs refusing to remain upright? Anyone else experience this? 3. The only other thing is have to test is HTP 73; could these maybe be more rigid than the CD? Or are they the same wick? 4. ANY wick suggestions that I haven't tried? Pretty please with sugar on top? Sorry so long...I've just spent so much time and $$$ testing these things, I feel like I HAVE to figure it out, even though I really just want to quit! Thanks for any tips you guys may have!!!! PS: I know this is a high FO load; don't really want to reduce it as they're also not throwing as well as I would like.
  6. I've used Lorann that I can find at Wal-Mart around the holidays and oils from www.flavorsandfragrance.com (Wholesale Supplies Plus)
  7. Thanks. I thought so, but I could have sworn I rejoined more than a month ago and I couldn't get in. Guess I have to wait a lil longer. Hmppf.
  8. Okay, I know this has been posted somewhere, but I can't find it, so pretty please don't yell at me for not running a search! I'm just wondering what the rules are for co-ops and classies. I have no interest in running a co-op; just would like to see what's going on. Since I can not even access the rules (how silly is that?) I'm wondering if someone can tell me how long I have to be a member before I can view those areas. Also wondering if there are any loopholes since I was a member on the old board but my user name wouldn't work anymore, I have a new name, but I'm not actually a new member. Sorry to ramble...any tips would be appreciated! Glad to be back on the board!
  9. No problem. I really should probably wait, too. I have a handful of tart burners right now so it's not a huge emergency for me. I'm certainly not doing a $250 order on my own, so might as well wait for some folks to go in on one. I wish there was a co-op on these again. Not that I can access a co-op, but I can dream.
  10. Hmmm, Well, I like the heart warmers, but I couldn't really use very many of them. The giftsets I make require a one-piece burner. I could probably find something to do with like 10-12 or so. Also not sure I understand about the tax situation. I thought all internet sales were tax exempt as long as they were out-of-state? If we get that hammered out, and shipping charges are reasonable, I'm definitely in for half a case (or 3/4 even) of coffee cup warmers. Anyone interested in the solid ceramic ones? Hopefully we're not going to get in trouble for something resembling a co-op here. I really appreciate you offering to take on the risk of doing this. I assure you if we do it, I'll paypal you the second you have totals for me. And I'm really not all that new. I was on the old board as "Kerri" but I couldn't get that username to work anymore so I had to change it.
  11. What a neat idea for chunkies. Love the look! Happy candlemaking!
  12. I say call it whatever you want to. I think it's pretty obvious if you open your eyes and look, what triple-scented means, in this case. Great job and great colors! I did find the 3% - 9% info interesting, though. I thought "triple scented" was purely a sales gimmick. I didn't know there was any basis in fact for the phrase.
  13. Aww, I love the heart burners! Those would be great for V-Day gift sets! I'm in the same boat; I would love to get some warmers there (I have my eye on the coffee cup warmers: http://www.acandleco.com/index.cfm/fa/items.main/parentcat/1908/subcatid/0/id/267815 and solid ceramics: http://www.acandleco.com/index.cfm/fa/items.main/parentcat/1908/subcatid/0/id/152118 or maybe: http://www.acandleco.com/index.cfm/fa/items.main/parentcat/1908/subcatid/0/id/114627 but I don't need 200 of them, even if I did want to spend $250. If anyone is brave enough to go in with a newbie, I'd love to get about $50-75 worth or so. I wonder if they are really set on the minimum. Has anyone asked? Not sure how shipping would work out with sharing orders?
  14. Yippee, thankyou! I bought the 14x24 accidentally. I don't know what the heck I was thinking. They are HUGE!
  15. Yes, but I'm afraid the smells would be overpowering with multiple fragrances in one display. With the cello wrap, you can still smell the candle; just the wrapping is a serious pain. These are the heart containers from Wal-Mart. They're almost 6 inches across. I'll just take a guess and order; thought I'd see if anyone already knew to maybe save me guessing wrong. :rolleyes2 Thanks for the replies, though!
  16. So I have seen about 700 posts here about how wonderful Wildberry Mousse is, but I poured it yesterday in tarts (4794/EZsoy mix) at 1.5 oz per pound and the cold throw is very weak. Does this get better with time? How long does everyone wait to burn it? I also poured Asian Amber and Mulberry and they both have amazing cold throws. I have like 8 more CS fragrances to test, but so far I'm 2/3. Any input on the WM would be greatly appreciated!
  17. Well, thankyou for the reply, but I can't access the classifieds yet, because I am still a "new" member which irritates me because I used to post here all the time but my old username seems to no longer exist. ANyhoo! What I really want is a bag I can set the candle down in and tie off on top. No chance the bags you were talking about would work for that, I suppose?
  18. Just wanted to add, there is a place for a truly free storefront: http://www.vstore.ca/ It is seriously no-frills and has advertisements on your page, but it's handy if you just want something fro your friends and family to be able to see your products. I use it for that purpose only; I have no intentions of selling to strangers, and I have no reason to worry: I've had the site for 5 years and never made an outside sale! Sounds silly, but it's all I wanted! When and if I actually want to sell on the WWW, I'll get my own webiste. For now, I like the sound of free!
  19. I have most of a case of the Crisa tumblers left over from my previous candlemaking days (just got back into it) and I was just debating over whether to tackle testing these again or resort to masons of some sort. I like the idea of the clear lids; thought I was going to have to package in cello bags. Ick. Anyhoo, questions: I'd also love to know what everyone charges for the 7.5 oz (I bought these so long ago I have no idea what I paid) and also wondering what wicks are working for everyone? I realize there will be wild differences in wax, but I have tried like 6 different wicks in these things and can't ever get the "perfect" burn. I think the thick glass keeps the jar from getting warm enough to help melt the wax, so I always have hangup. Whew...that was a novel, and I totally hijacked this post! Sorry!
  20. Hello, all! I am back to candle-making after a long hiatus, and am wondering if any of you make candles in the Libbey heart containers from Wal-Mart. I used to use cello rolls to package them, but it was such a pain. I would love to find a bag that would fit them (ordering from Nashville Wraps) but they're such a tricky shape, so I thought I'd check here first! Any suggestions?
