  1. Carrie, I think they are very pretty! santacon
  2. I use glass glow with the cd wicks. The jars I use are all 3" jars. I double wick them with anything from cd 4 to a cd 10. The 10 was very rare only did that once. It just depends on the FO you are using. There are some that like the csn wicks and some that like the cdn wicks. My reason for the cd wick is it's a self trimming wick, but as it burns down into the jar you can get a small flame, some do not like the small flame, but I prefer it. Each person has their preference on a particular wick and why they like it. To deal with air pockets, I use bamboo skewers to wreak the tops. I do not do a re-pour, I use my heat gun to smooth the tops off. I hope this helps, but there are a few on here that have been at it longer than I have, that can further help you. Good Luck, Deb
  3. I use a product called Shurtape. It is approximately 3" wide. I cut a piece that is about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" long. I do not use any putty with this, just the Shurtape. I wick and then tape over the wick, making sure that I secure it well, lots of pressing of the tape around the wick! I have never had one leak, yet. I started out filling the mold with water to see if the water would leak out, and when it didn't, I got real brave and did a candle, knowing full well that the heat of the wax could change everything. I put a disposable bowl underneath, just in case everything went south! I have probably made about 100 candles and not one did I have a problem with. I bought this stuff at Lowes and I can't remember how much I paid for it, but at the time it seamed pricey. The roll is pretty large and there is no telling how many candles you could make with it. Now I see it was well worth what ever I paid for it. The product is called Shurtape, it is a foil tape. Here are some numbers that are printed on the tape, don't know if you will need them or not: 181A-P/181B-FX. I just thought I would toss this out there, because I really hated to have to mess with the putty stuff, I found it such a pain. And thanks to Stella who got me started on this venture. Good Luck! Deb
  4. I never paid attention to the fact that you could get them wholesale. So I filled out my form and ordered. These do look very similar to the ones that I had gotten from Alabaster's. Thank you both for your replies, I appreciate it greatly! Deb
  5. I ordered some wick trimmers from Alabaster's about a month ago, and they let me know today that they do not know when they will be getting these in, they were supposed to be in two weeks ago. I really do like these because they trim the wick to exactly 1/4" and they were decorative. I have a customer that bought all that I had, but is needing 4 more. I would really like to get her some like she already bought. Any ideas? Thanks Deb
  6. I love the tarts, those are so cute, especially the 2 toned. The candle is beautiful, you did a great job. I like to come here and get inspired .....
  7. Those are very pretty! I love the angle candles, I always like something that is different!
  8. Wow, that was like a Lucy episode! I don't know about saving wax, I can only help with the dried wax. I love using my oven. I set my oven on 200, (that is as low as mine will go) I have a cookie sheet that is covered in foil, then I put a layer of paper towels on it, this way when wax gets on it, I can just change the paper towel. I put pouring pots and everything else in the oven to melt any wax off. I do not use spoons to stir my wax, I use bamboo sticks. I have found that I am not wasting as much wax with the bamboo sticks as I did with spoons. I just wipe the stick off as I use it, usually I am able to wipe off all wax and re-use it. Some people use a heat gun to melt the wax off, you just have to find your groove!
  9. I use the heat gun on mine, it is the only way for me. I don't use the oven because the wax does want to melt off of the wick. I use the GE Silicone, so mine are pre-wicked prior to using the heat gun. I am a very (emphasis on very) small candle maker, making palm wax candles, tarts, etc. I make these for our health food store and for right now, this keeps me busy.
  10. Those are very pretty! Look at it this way, they may be more time consuming, but they are totally eye catching! Debbie
  11. Thank you Richard, I was kind of hoping it would be ok. I am wanting to put some christmas scents together. Two scents would probably be all that I will be putting together per package. Debbie
  12. Can you package different tart scents together, or is this not a good idea? Debbie :smiley2:
  13. I am using cd 4's right now in my small status jar and am pretty happy with it, but some scents I have to just kick to the curb, because I don't have anything smaller than the 4. The Red Clove from Peak's is one of them. If I get my large status wicked with a cd 4 on some scents, I don't have a wick small enough for my small status jar. I know some wick for their jars to clean later in the burn. I have never been able to do that. I don't know if it is the jars I am using or what. Every time I try that, I wind up with a bunch of wax left at the end. Oh, the pressure of picking the right wick!!:laugh2:
  14. Tootie, I will be very curious to see what your results are. The small status jar that I use measures 2 1/2" and holds a little over 6oz of palm wax. The jars are very simular. I tried different size cd wicks and could never get it to work, so if you are able to single wick it, you will be my wick hero! Isn't wick-it the place you have to order a gazillion wicks? I did ask them some time ago if I could get some samples of cd2's, never heard from them. I will not order a massive amount of anything that I do not know if it will work or not.
  15. Tootie, I use the small status jar, it holds a little over 6 oz., and I double wick with 2 cd 4's (wish they made cd 2's) I have not been able to single wick it. I also use the small vibe jar, it's about 4 oz. I usually use a cd 18, but with some of my Christmas scents I had to wick down to a 16 or a 14. These jars do not have shoulders on them, which I think helps to hold the heat in and you may be able to use a single wick, you will just have to experiment. Good luck with it, Deb
  16. Thank you, Carole, I thought that it might be. I'll continue to look and see if I can find some smaller molds. It was wishful thinking that they might work, they were cute!
  17. Does anybody know approximately how much a tart warmer bowl will hold? I did a search, and the only reply was that the one this person had would hold 5 oz. Does the amount that they hold vary that much from one company to another? I am wanting to make some tarts for Christmas and some are 3 ounces. Much thanks!
  18. I loved all of your pictures! Your creativity is amazing!
  19. Richard, that is some beautiful work. I love your creativity with the tarts, they are really cute.
  20. Islandgirl,I don't think they are bad stickums from CS, in fact those are the ones that I use for testing. I would have trouble no matter who I got them from. I use it in palm wax with cd wicks, so I don't know if it is one or the other or a combination of both, that causes them to come loose.
  21. I only use them for testing purposes. They do come loose for me towards the very end of my testing, not always, but more times than not. I really do not know why some have trouble and others swear by the sickums. Now I use the sillicone for the candles I sell, that wick ain't going no where now!
  22. Thanks Judy, I never thought about that.
  23. When using the wood wicks in palm (glass glow), is it still necessary to poke relief holes?
  24. Donna, I just got back here, thank you for posting the web site. Thank you so very much for the help with the tart molds. I am mystified why companies advertise them as 1 oz when they truly are not. I don't care if I over fill the mold, I still will not get 1 oz. With these, I get minimum 1oz. So I am very happy and thank-ful for your help. :yay: Debbie
