  1. Lately, I have seen more and more places carrying clamshells and melters, where they used to just focus on candles. I went into Walgreens yesterday and they had an end-cap display of all kinds of clamshells with what looked like some pretty nice melters, they didn't just have a couple, they had a nice variety to choose from. I didn't check the price on the melters, but the clamshells were going for $2.99. The same company that made the warmers also made the clamshells. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Our Hobby Lobby started carrying them in the last year and Wally's Card and Party shop are carrying clamshells and melters from Candle Warmers, not sure if I got the name right or not, but I was going to place an order with them for some tart melters. Just wondering......
  2. Does anybody know where I could get dupes of Estee Lauder's Youth Dew and Shalamar? Thanks much!
  3. I love your candle, very pretty. I love your candle holder, too. I am always looking for something different!
  4. I find it easy to clean up. Give it a try, I think you'll find it a fun wax to work with!
  5. My starburst and feather palm are both tiny little beads and the glass glow is flakey and dusty, when it is poured. I get all of mine from Candle Science, but assume they are like this no matter where they come from. Looking at the pictures, it is hard to tell. I would think if it were glass glow you would have had a hard time getting it out of the mold, since glass glow is a container wax. Where did you buy it from? Maybe get in touch with the supplier and tell them what the problem is, possibly send a picture.
  6. Welcome to the craft server! Nice to have you here!
  7. Thanks Top, I will be remaking my Plumeria with a csn 14.
  8. Ok, forgot to ask, but I do love to mix feather and starburst 50/50. Now which wick? Sorry!
  9. I learned a long time ago to crimp. I had the jars all ready to pour the wax and one of the wicks came loose from the wick bar. When I pulled it straight to attach it back to the wick bar it pulled right out of the tab. Not just one jar, but 5 jars! When I called the supplier they suggested crimping. I learned to do this no matter who the supplier is. I use silicone to attach the wicks, and it's not easy to get the tab out of the jar, when you use silicone!
  10. I want to make sure I understand. When I make feather or starburst I use a 3 x 3 1/2 " mold, starting out with a csn 11 or 12. Are you saying to start out with a csn 14 wick and adjust according to FO? I have to make some testers tomorrow, so this will be new for me. Top, do you find that you would have to start out with a larger size wick if it is a taller candle mold? I forgot to ask, this is for 4 hour test burns, right? Top have you tried to light one and just let it go?
  11. Top, I use the csn in my palm pillars and the cd's in my glass glow. It has amazed me how different the wicks react to the different palm waxes. I have never tried the cd in feather or starburst, so I appreciate all of your testing, it has been interesting. I single wicked with a cdn 12 in the 10 oz. status using Orange Vanilla and really did not care for the large flame I got with it. On the other hand I single wicked the 7.5 status jar with a cdn 10 using White Tea and Ginger and even tho I liked the flame size, I ended up with a lot of wax. Thus my reasoning for double wicking with cd's. The csn flame in the feather and starburst is perfect for me, like I said, everyone has their reasons for why they like certain wicks. It's personal preference.
  12. I am test burning cs's very vanilla in palm and it smells great. I have also used Peak's french vanilla and liked it a lot, too. I wanted to compare the two to see which one I liked better, unfortunately, I like them both. Now I need to decide which one.....
  13. Susan, with my palm wax candles, I use cd wicks and double wick. I have tried the csn's but did not like them because of the large flames. I started using the cd wicks and really like them. I like the size of the flame where as some find the flame too small for their liking. Another plus, it is self trimming. Wicking a square container to burn the whole candle is going to be hard, as Stella has stated quite a few times, a melt pool is circular. So trying to get it to burn out to the edges is going to be hard. I would say maybe double wicking with a couple of cd's. I don't know how wide the jar is, but if it is 3" maybe 5's or 6's. I use the status jar and with the large, I use two cd 5's or 6's. The smaller status, I use two cd 3's or 4's. But all of this depends on the FO that I use. Everyone has their preference of wicks that they like to use. Just keep testing and you'll find what works for you! Happy testing! Deb I want to add that the status jar has a thick bottom and if I don't pay enough attention to heating the base of the jar with the heat gun, I will not get any crystalizing at the base of the candle. I do let mine cool on a rack with a paper towel covering the top. I found no difference with the crystalizing whether I covered it with a box or cooled it on a rack with a paper towel just covering the top.
  14. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase the plastic dust covers for pillar candles? Thanks much!
  15. Love your candle, very pretty. I love the mottled look!
  16. I use the status jars and the bottom is thicker like the jars you are using. I have to pay close attention to heating that part of the jar more with the heat gun, when I didn't, I would have the same problem with it not crystalizing. I put mine on racks to cool, covering the tops with a paper towel. I have tried covering with boxes and I could not see much difference in the crystalization. Some of you that have been working with glass glow may have already noticed this, jars like the hex and jars that have curves seem to get a prettier pattern vs a jar like the status with straight sides. BTW, I think your candles turned out great for your first try!
  17. Thanks, Top. I do use csn in my palm pillars and do like how they burn and even did not trim them, like you said you were doing. I really was amazed that they burned just as well as if I had trimmed them. I have never used the htp and just wondered if you liked one better than the other. I am always up for trying something that maybe better than what I am already using. I guess I'll stick with my csn's then. Thanks for all of the great testing that you did, Top!
  18. Top, between the HTP and the CSN, which one was your preference?
  19. They are all beautiful, I love your creativity!
  20. I am confused. Are you saying that when you have a blow out it could actually mean you need a larger wick? I started a thread some days ago about having a blow-out on my starburst/feather candle. It was a 3x3 1/2. I started out with a csn 11 which is generally what I start with and adjust from there. I did one 4 hour test burn and on the second test burn I had a blow-out 2 hours into the burn. I knew it was going to happen, it was burning way to fast. I intend to wick down to a csn 7 or 9, haven't decided yet. I know that in the past I thought a candle was tunneling for sure, but as it burned further down, it turned out to be a good burning candle. I want to thank Desert Rose aka Tracey for helping with my remelting question! I forgot to ask you Top, what size are your candles?
  21. I made a palm wax candle using 50% feather and 50% starburst, using Plumeria at 6%. I wicked with a csn 11 and had a blow out on my second 4 hour burn. I could tell after the first 4 hour burn it was probably going to have a blow-out, it was burning at a faster rate than my other pillars that I was testing. I want to re-melt it and maybe try either a csn 7 or csn 9. I have never re-melted before, so could someone walk me thru this. Do I weigh the candle and then add wax to make up the difference. What about fo? I would like to get it back to its original state as much as possible, so I can do a thorough test. For those of you who re-melt, how do you re-make your candles? I hope this doesn't sound too STUPID! Thanks! Deb P>S> Need to add that this is a 3X3 1/2" pillar. Deb
  22. Thank you Top. I'm going to give the 6% a try. I am going to have to use the uv stabilizer because I have some candles fading really bad. The worst one was my blueberry muffin, which was a dark blue. These do not get direct sunlight, so I am a little mystified why they are discoloring. Does florescent lighting cause problems, too? Thanks, Top Deb
