  1. I am looking for packaging for pillars, would the sleeves be the best way to go? I am looking for something simple, but also a way that a customer could still smell the candle. If sleeves are the best way to go, where is the best place to get them? Thanks bunches, :yay:
  2. CatlinPM ( I hope I got this right ) also sells palm wax candles. You can go to the members list and find her web site. I think I have also seen her on etsy. I have bought one of her candles and it burns beautifully.
  3. Do a google search, you will find a lot of palm wax candles! :)
  4. Thanks Stella! Starting out making palm candles, I experimented with rrd's, csn's, cd's and even cdn's. I have a whole lot of wicks, in other words! I hate to get rid of any of them, I never know when one of them will come in handy. :yay:
  5. I am looking for a strong vanilla. I have been doing a search and have seen one called Very Vanilla from Candle Science. I am wondering how it compares with Peak's French Vanilla?
  6. I am trying for the first time to make palm wax votives and was wondering which of these wicks is the better choice. I have done a search and have seen cd 6&7 or csn 5,7 & 9. The votive molds I have are the round and the square, not sure if that makes a difference or not on which wick I use. Thanks bunches Debbie
  7. I like your candles! They look really classy! :yay:
  8. I forgot to mention that I like to use cd wicks with my glass glow. I started out with the csn wicks, but I did not like the large flame and the mushrooms that I would get. I have not used that size jar, but you might order a sample pack and try a cd 8, or try a search and see if anyone has any other suggestions.
  9. That is a beautiful candle! You did a great job! This is what I have found out with the wick stickums, when I would heat the container in the oven, the stickums would sometimes come up when I started to pour the wax, and for me, sometimes is one time too many. Now, I hit the container with my heat gun, and so far have not had one come loose yet. I am with Stella on the silicone. Only use it on containers you're giving as gifts or selling. It is extremely hard to get them out with the silicone.
  10. I did not know this. I have been testing some palm wax chunk pillars, and I have been pouring on the cool side for a crackled effect. I find that I am having to wick down when making a chunk pillar vs. a plain palm wax pillar. Do any of you notice starburst burning differently than the feather palm? I have made two of the starburst and they are leaving quite a bit of shell, more than I would like.
  11. Those are cute tarts! I love the two toned colors! :smiley2:
  12. Those are beautiful candles! I have not tried the feather palm in the metal molds, I have only used the crystal palm (I think that is what it is called!) They turned out pretty, but then you're not looking for a pattern like the starburst or feather. I love the csn wicks in my palm pillars. I always get a really good burn. For a 3" candle, I use a csn 12. You can do a search about the csn and palm and find more info on it. Also, I do not get a big flame with the csn and palm pillars. It was a whole different story with csn's and containers. I did not care for the large flame and the mushrooms I was getting, so I switched to cd wicks. These worked the best for me.....thank you Jakalex for your help with these wicks!
  13. I use palm wax, also. The feather palm I use in the clam shells. I use the glass glow in the silicone molds. The silicone molds are smaller in size than the regular 1 oz tarts, but using the silicone molds, you are able to make a lot at one time. I have several different shapes that I use and really do like them!
  14. Nancy, what a beautiful candle! Love the colors in it.
  15. You made me get up out of my comfortable chair to go and look!! I got mine from Millcreek and it had a great CT and HT and OOB! I was really surprised how much I liked it, because I was never much of a fruity person. (OK, ya'll stop laughing!) Bottom line, it smells good all the way around!
  16. Those look good enough to eat! What a great job!
  17. I use pillar (feather) palm wax in my clamshells. I tried using the glass glow, but it just crumbled, in general, they made a big mess! Palm wax needs to be poured at 200 degrees for containers or pillars, but when doing clamshells I pour about 175-180. If you don't, it could melt the clamshell. Debbie
  18. I agree, Stella. Some candles that I have bought over the net will burn well until they get down to the end. This was a palm wax candle that was double wicked, and both of the wicks came loose. It looked to me like they may have used hot glue. The day before I make a batch of candles, I will spend that evening wicking the jars with silicone. For me it is really no different than wicking with a stickum. The next day the jars are wicked and ready to go.
  19. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I do only make palm wax candles and it could be heat of the palm wax that makes them come loose? I don't know! The stickums worked great until..... it gets to the bottom of the jar. If the stickums work, I think it is great and by the way Candlemakers' were the best stickers that I had used.
  20. I like the aluminum pour pots. I pop them in the oven to warm them and after I pour, I pop it back in the oven to melt off what was left, then I wipe, wipe, wipe. I have thought about using the glass, but wasn't sure how it would work. What the heck, I might throw caution to the wind and give it a wirl!
  21. I am curious, are you saying that when you test your jars all of the way down, that you never have a stickum come loose? I have tried stickums from several different suppliers, even Candlemaker's, and they too would come loose at the end of testing. I know it is a pain to use the Silicone, I have to let them set up, but I still think it is the safer way to go.
  22. When I do clam shells, I use feather. When I do tarts, I use glass glow. With that said, I use silicone molds, and I have never had any problems getting them out. From what I understand, if you use the metal tart molds, glass glow does not do well in these and you may have a hard time getting them out. You may try a search, I remember there was some discussion about glass glow and metal tart molds. I love my silicone molds because I can make a lot at one time. The tarts will not be as large as the metal molds, you just have to find what is right for you! Good Luck and have fun! Debbie
  23. You might try a google search for "silicone molds." I ordered some a while back that were squares. I haven't used it yet, so I don't know if these will be 1 oz or not. I love making different shapes of tarts and I too use palm wax exclusively. I love the look of it. Good Luck!
