  1. Oh I am an addict too....but my addiction is "the search". I keep buying FOs for wax trying to find something I am pleased with...to no avail. Maybe it doesn't exist. My fragrance addiction started years ago with Colognes (where it remains today when I admit it) What is that definition for insanity? Something about doing the same thing over and over expecting different results? oh I think that there are FOs that smell nice. Some that even smell great...but very rarely (almost never) do they throw as well as I would like....and very rarely are the fragrances as "different' as I would like for them to be. KWIM? I know the "fruits" throw better than most others. I don't like fruits. I know that there is a HUGE selection of Bakery out there. I don't like Bakery. ( and to me, MANY of them smell rather similar..thinking that there are maybe 10 notes, tops, that are used over and over in different variations) I won't get started on the florals....although I will say they do a fairly decent job of manufacturing florals that are "almost" there...IF and only IF you find the right ones. Ever got a rose or a jasmine that wasn't the right one? LOL PeeeeUUU The "dupes" are usually a disappointment, or have been for me with men's fragrances. They just do not smell like the fragrance they are trying to dupe. I would almost like them better as stand alone fragrances on their own without saying they are a dupe of something they aren't. So, any of you addicts out there that can point me in a direction where I will find FOs so fabulous that I will want more of them, I would appreciate it! I love the earthy..woodsy(my faves)...greens....spas...oceans....GOOD florals.. NO: Blueberry- caramel waffle creme whip strudel with toasted coconut pecan sauce with a splash of Grand Pa's trip to Starbucks Hazelnut Latte Bean, please.
  2. If I were you I would not put the container candles on the site until you are pleased with the wicking and they are ready to sell. JMHO
  3. With the 6006 blend I think it is essential that you group your candles together and cool as slowly as possible. Try covering them with a box. ( I even tossed a throw over the box) It does make a difference!
  4. I do not see ST on our supplier's abbreviation list and must be brain dead tonight. So, who is ST?
  5. Maybe you could create a Stained Glass piece for him. There are SO MANY patterns available...I have no doubt you could find something that would be perfect for him!
  6. Thanks! Watery is not what I have in mind either...but I absolutely do not want "heavy".
  7. Have you tried their Lotion Base? I ALMOST ordered just from their description! BUT, I have done that way too many times. Learned my lesson! This one does "sound" special.
  8. I wouldn't assume it is the water. :undecided I would assume it is the CP soap or the body wash.
  9. Jerry, the main reasons are quality and price. For the money, the Fragrance Oils are just weak..and simple. Come to think of it, even if they were free I wouldn't use them. Candle supply companies offer a much better product at better prices. IMHO The wax could be used. ( I think you will need you own additives) It is no "deal" in my opinion. Hobby Lobby IS a cool place. Impossible to get "in and out" very quick..there is so much to look at!
  10. If you really love The Wick House...and feel a connection to it, I think you should use it. Don't let a little thing like " it is already taken" stop you! Just personalize it some way that will make it your own, right? Hunter's Wick House The Hunter's Wick House Hunter's House of Wicks OK..I will sleep on it. LOL
  11. I am neither "for" nor "against" massage lotion candles. I do not buy them, make them or use them...nor do I have any intention of doing so...but not because of the dangers or liabilities necessarily...although I do believe those to be issues that should be addressed before making a decision to manufacture them. Personally, I just think there are better products and better ways to achieve the thing that massage candles claim to do. I do find it interesting to observe all the hoopla about them, however. The concept does not seem so new to me. It is a "different" way to heat "beneficial" emollients. Manicurists have been using warm/hot melted paraffin wax dips for years. Once you dip your hand or foot in the warmer/melter, the wax is allowed to cool and eventually peeled off. People with arthritis claim that the moist heat penetrates deep enough to be beneficial to the joints. There are other beneficial properties supposedly. I recall there always being some massaging included with the paraffin dip treatment. There was a variety of things added to the wax....Eucalyptus..Peach oil... The difference is, their warmers have a thermostat and obviously the "new" massage candles do not. One uses electricity to melt the wax with a thermostat to gage the temperature and the other uses a wick/flame to melt the wax and the temperature is somehow controlled by not ever getting too hot in the first place? There really is no need for massage candles other than to appease the consumers insatiable appetite for something different.. Massage candles are not better than other options already on the market that do the same thing....probably better actually. Massage therapists have a variety of ways to warm their lotions and potions(and THOSE lotions and potions do not have to perform with a wick so they are probably better for the skin when you think about it logically) The thing is consumers do not want a new "brand". They want a new catagory..a new concept...a new treatment...a new way of doing things....hence, the "new" massage candle. Are massage candles a strong enough "new" idea to invest in? Not for my money....but to each his own. M
  12. I am not sure how much oil you are using or from what supplier....which of course could both be factors but I would say for starters you need to crank the heat up before you add your fragrance oil. 185 is not uncommon with straight paraffin. And, no, you do not "lose" scent while you are waiting to repour, nor do you "lose" scent if your lid is off your candle.Once the fragrance oil has been incorporated into the wax, it is there for the long haul. (I remember asking that question once.) I WILL let someone else explain oxidation and why using a lid seems to improve the cold throw.
  13. A word of caution: EVERY hour glass I checked out was very thin. When I first saw them I really liked the shape....after doing some testing I decided against them.
  14. Honestly, I think it might be their intention for you to leave their "sprinklings" in the candle. I noticed they have done the same thing in their jar candles...not sure you could get all the peppermint leaves out of you tried. HUmm..
  15. In any type of business if you elect not to have insurance, YOU are the one playing with fire. That is just the way it is. Sadly, we live in a very litigious society.
  16. I have been using the 600 (Superior)series in my 70/30 (paraffin/soy). Good results with the home fragrance line. I started working with more concentrated oils through some manufacturers and long story short needed to change wicks. I have been testing the 800s. They are a "hotter" wick...my choice of words..I am sure Wick It would not appreciate my word choice BUT you know what I mean. I just got 3000 in....the 810,820 and 830. Between the 3, they are covering my Spa line fairly well in my container....BUT I am not quite pleased yet...just a couple of challenges.. and would love to speak to someone that is using them in their line.
  17. Is anyone using the 800 series from Wick It? If so, I would love to have a conversation with you. Thanks, Michael
  18. Lynn, I have used white "dye" to get mine a whiter/brighter white with good results. I have always used the liquid dyes from AAA so I don't really have anyone elses liquids to compare them to. I think they are great. http://www.aaacandlesupply.com/Candle_Making.asp BTW...I think that all of us are getting our Palm wax from Maylasia these days.
  19. I would like to know the manufacturer too. Not so much to avoid C & S...but to avoid the manufacturer if you have inside info on them! I have been learning a lot about manufacturers in the last few months. They are NOT all created equally for sure!
  20. Congrats to you and good luck. I am sure if you can meet their minimum requirements it should be a go! I have seen several candle companies on QVC and to the best of my knowledge, they are all successful. Way to go! Keep us posted!
  21. So far so good~! I got it filled. I didn't pour today, so once everything was melted I unplugged it...waited...than pushed it back in the corner. I will pull it out towards the edge when I use it so I can use the spout. I think it is going to be great. I will have to get accustomed to the spout. I have always used a laddle....from my old fryer into the pour pot sitting on the scale. ( I am fairly careful..not too messy).....not sure using a spout how I will handle the weighing etc but I will get it all figured out. It will just feel awkward at first. When you have been doing things one way for awhile...and make some changes...it just feels strange for awhile. I am sure I will use one of the small pitchers under the spout to add small amounts after I have filled one of the larger ones close to use in getting my weights exact. Make sense? Not sure it did to me LOL Thanks for all the tips, links and information. I appreciate you. M
