  1. I use RA for one of the fragrances in my SPA collection. Tom is good to work with and they were very accomodating when I asked them to reformulate for a "stronger" fragrance oil. I wouldnt say they are "fast" but I was pleased with the time frame. The are A-OK with me.
  2. I personally think that the Damsel in Distress thing works beautifully with the suppliers. Wherever you are purchasing wax, ask that it be broken up for you. It is all about customer service. Who would say no? Nothing wrong with Batting Lashes.....save your nails.
  3. From what I read, people do not have to sign up for PayPal in order to use their CC when they check out through PayPal. I know it used to be that way but I think it has been changed.
  4. What about Core candles, Bruce? I have three more cases of this wax in the garage. Think it would be alright for Core candles if the wells were filled with the 1239?
  5. Oh Wow! Do I have a lot to learn about wax and additives! So I can take the wax out of the wells, add a pinch of Vybar per Lb plus the FO, pour it in the tins and I am good to go?! (No need to add the steraic for this, right?)
  6. Thanks for the ideas! I decided to pop a wick in that pillar I made with it...I know it was not the right wick ....just all I had. I will be shocked if I get 4 more hours out of it. This was after the first 4. Of course I took this wax out of the clear well and added the Steraic....so it had no pigment in it. Too bad I can't just mold the wax in the wells and call it a day.
  7. News to me. I can't help but wonder where this is? Whacked indeed. ANYTIME I hear or "read" someone whining and moaning and complaining about ANYTHING, I ALWAYS consider the source. Most people that complain all the time are just not credible to me. I have a tendency to "listen" more closely to NICE complainers that are not too frequent about it. KWIM?
  8. I bought 50lbs of Palm Wax and was determined! Pretty Pretty Wax/Candles. I did get them to where they did not "blow out" and burned right up to the edge leaving a thin "wall". (which is what I was told they are supposed to do) They were fabulous as long as every time before relighting I would take a razor and slice everything back to flat.:embarasse LOL...Yea, like I am going to deal with that....or expect customers to go through that. Is someone saying here that they have wicked this wax to leave that thin wall and with continued burning it consumes itself? (with no help?) OR am I misreading here?
  9. Yea, everything he said for me too!!! Separating, cracking, shorter working time etc. Can you imagine having ALL the wells 1343? Since I started using this wax I have spent more time trying to repair all the mishaps that happen during the carving process than I have actually just enjoying the carving. (which I was doing with the 1239) I REALLY wanted to buy wax locally, but I am giving up and going back to the 1239 where carving was FUN! Making melts with ALL this wax? I have 8 wells (15 lbs in each well)...that would be 120 lbs of melts:undecided ...and this wax can hold 3% fragrance oil:undecided ?? I guess I could use some form of additive (Vybar 103) and pour some 16oz tins for the warmer? How much Vybar would you recommend I add per lb, and how much FO can I load it up with? I am not a pillar guy, but I did give it a shot over the holidays.(since I have all this wax) 1343 plus 1 teaspoon Steraic and 7% FO....plus 12 drops liquid dye. Came out of the mold beautifully, excellent throw, not too oily......actually they LOOKED fairy decent. Not having any wicks suitable for pillars, fortunately my house is still standing.
  10. Any ideas or thoughts about what can be done with this wax? When I started carving I was using IGI 1239 with a little microwax added. All was good. When it came time to reorder the only wax available to me locally was the recommended 1343. I was told that many carvers use it. Long story short, it is not working as well for me as the 1239 and I am tired of messing with it. I have 10 cases of 1239 on the way. Any idea what I could do with the colored (with pigments) wax in these 8 wells? I have approx 15 lbs of wax in each well (I also have 3 unopened cases) I hate the thought of not using it for SOMETHING. I know that many of you use the 1343 for pillars. Could I use the already colored wax to create pillars? Maybe add some Steraic and Fragrance Oil? I have heard that you can only use 3% FO with 1343. Will wax that has been colored with pigment dyes work as regular pillars? I would appreciate any help you can give me. I HATE to waste, but I am anxious to get back to the 1239 and my candle carving and need my wells empty asap. TIA to any 1343 users out there who can offer me some guidance.
  11. Whew....Thanks! I was in a tale spin panic!! I did go in and change my password just in case. I am glad to know that they do send the one with the link when you change email addresses. Do you all use the Standard or Pro? I will be upgrading to a business account when my website is up. It seems as if the only difference is with a Standard account, the client is redirected to check out AT Paypal. With the Pro, they check out ON your site. I am trying to decide what the perception would be and if it matters. I do not have telephone or fax orders, so that feature is unimportant to me.
  12. The emails I received was from : sendmail@paypal.com; on behalf of; service@paypal.com I received them for adding email addresses to my PayPal account. They said that I had to click on the link to complete the process. I am HATING this crap already! UGH!! Thanks for the help. I am off the change EVERYTHING!
  13. I just opened a PayPal account this week. Well, I started to open one in 2005 but decided against it when they asked for my bank info. Just didn't want to do it at the time. ..and always thought of PayPal as being kinda "cheesy"....but,they still had the info I put in at the time like I had an account. I have done the whole bank thing now and been verified. I am trying to decide on a Standard or Pro account. My account says NO Balance. If I were to buy something or send money doesn't it just come out of my bank account...the one I gave them the information for? OR do I have to place some money in the account? Sorry, don't mean to hijack. I am very interested in hearing more about PayPal myself. It is basically NEW to me. I have never used it other than to buy something with my CC through someone that used them. Lynn, Now you have me thinking WTH have I done? BTW, they sent me three different emails with links to "click on" to verify it was me and I was making the "changes".
  14. Glo, I imagine woodland breeze is pretty much good in ANYTHING.
  15. I would not be concerned about it whatsoever as long as all the usual safety concerns have been met. It probably looks better than the typical wet spots that occur with most waxes.
  16. I have a hard time understanding that. Soy candles are less expensive to make than Paraffin or Paraffin-Soy Blended candles when you are buying wax in my area.
  17. First post ever on any site....right away you have my heart. I sometimes wish there was an orientation that people could go through before they start posting so they wouldn't wind up feeling the way you are feeling after your post... with the responses you have received. southern...people here are just concerned for the craft as a whole, public perception (we are all in this together believe it or not) and public safety etc. There are many people here that know, from experience, what goes into making an excellent product...and those same people see some of the dangerous, poorly crafted candles that are being sold all over the country. It hurts us all...it really does. I am sorry you were caught up into that your first post.. People are just a wee bit suspicious and cynical of people wanting to sell..until the important standards and criteria have been met. I personally do not know you or your situation....whether you have a family to protect or property such as a home...bank accounts, cars etc. As a member here (and I like to think, a nice guy) I will share with you this very important bit of advise. You can do with it as you will. DO NOT sell one single candle until you have purchased your Insurance. All it would take is one mishap, or one "sue happy" person to wipe you out. Seriously...before you sell one candle...even to "friends". Figure it in as part of your start up costs. It is as important as the wax and wicks. BTW....Trish is a well respected professional on our board. She is a wealth of knowledge. I think she was trying to be helpful to you. Good luck to you and your new venture. Do it right!:highfive:
  18. Having it on his website says he elected to do it. It doesn't say anything about WHY. Again, I would be interested in hearing what he has to say about it. I would venture to say that most business owners have a reason (or two) for doing the things they do. The down side of this is the public perception we have seen in this thread. I would be interested in knowing what the "positives" are.
  19. I remember him writting the most honest and logical article on Fragrance Oils. (The difference in Grade A and Grade B....remember that?) He cleared up a lot of confusion for me. I would be interested in hearing what he has to say about this.
  20. Yes...Tulle it is. Comes in all colors and several types at Hobby Lobby.
  21. One thing for POSITIVE SURE...I am going to start preparing for Christmas in July! and...Take more risks! 1. Free the mind from worry. 2. Free the heart from hatred. 3. Give More 4. Expect Less 5. Live Simply Wait! Those aren't business resolutions:undecided (5 rules to be happy!)
  22. I think that there are many consumers out there that have bought into the whole "triple scented" thing at least once. After all, it has been around a long time and there have been many people that make candles latch onto the "phrase" in hopes it would define their candle in the consumer's mind as a stronger scented candle. There have been equally as many consumers find out after their purchase that their new triple scented candle did not smell any stronger. There are also many of us that have used or continue to use 1.5oz per lb that choose to NOT say "triple scented" for many reasons. It took me a lot of wax, fo and frustration to come to the conclusion that the only thing that makes a stronger scented candle is stronger fragrance oils NOT more fragrance oil. Duh! Bruce's point about going to the manufacturer and asking them to formulate stronger oils at a higher price point is what finally worked for me. That is not to say that you can't "go through" the entire library of fragrance oils available through the suppliers and find the lucky ones that are stronger. It takes awhile. Obviously the raw ingredients in some fragrances cost less to manufacturer if you find a "strong" one from a supplier that buys at a lower price point. Please know that paying more does not guarantee a "stronger" oil from a supplier. There have been suppliers that have marketed their "complex" oils as stronger when in reality they have given them a new name and just widened their profit margin. Trial and error is the only way to get what you want. It would be SO EASY for us all just to use 1.5oz per Lb and have a kick ass candle or just pay more and buy from suppliers that charge more to get better/stronger oils. It doesn't work that way, or we would all be doing it. I really don't know anyone that wants poorly scented candles. Merry Christmas Eve everyone~~ M
