  1. I use 4630 from Bittercreek. Good Hot and Cold throw.
  2. I just got a wick setter and I love it. It had instructions with it on how to set it for the size jar you are using and how to put the wick in. I use the wick stickums too. All you do is put the stickums on the wick tab, put the wick up in the setter and there is a magnet on the bottom of the setter that keeps the wick in place then you just push the top down and your wick is set. I usually wait until I need to order FO's, wax or other items then I order the wick stickems then I'm not paying shipping on one little thing. HTH
  3. The only time I have had oil on my tarts was when I evidentally didn't stir my wax after letting it set for a min. or two before I got ready to pour. Plus it was a vanilla. I use the 4x6 polypro. bags also.
  4. Check the Bittercreek Candle Supply site and the have the recipe there.
  5. A big Congratulations. Isn't it great when everything comes together after all the hard work and all the testing?
  6. When you get done melting excess wax from your pour pot and jars in the oven, don't just leave them in there to cool off. Take them out.... I've done that a couple of times and forgot them. Turning the oven back on later at 350 tends to make them smoke.
  7. Hi, I use the 4630 wax and the zinc wick 44-24-18z for my jelly jars. I use Bittercreek Fo's and haven't had any problems.
  8. Check out Peak Candle Supplies, Bittercreek Candle Supply, and Cajun Candle Supplies. All have good kits to start out with and very good instructions. Do alot of reading and testing. Have fun and good luck.
  9. I use the 4630 and I have tried the insulated cooler but still had a slight dip. I started using the heat gun and the tops look alot nicer.
  10. Hi, I've just used the presto pot but I love it. I just make small orders out of home of jj, but I wouldn't be without one. Just make sure you use a thermometer even tho you have a temp. dial on the pot. Sorry I can't comment on the other.
  11. I agree with getting a candle kit also. I did the same as you as far as trying plain parafin, and I bought cheap scents. But then I started reading on the different candle sights and figured out I didn't know what I was doing. I was told to start out with a kit to see if I liked making candles. I checked out Peak candle sight, Bitter Creek candles, and Cajun Candles also Candle Science. I probably spent about a month just reading. Once you get started making candles and decide you like doing it, it is very addicting. Good Luck and have fun. If you have any questions email me. I will try to answer your questions. I have been doing this for about a year but still consider myself a newbie.
  12. I use BCN's Cinamon Red Hot also. I can't seem to keep it in stock, it goes fast.
  13. I also use the flat head nails. (roofing nails). I put cooking spray on a paper towel and wipe my cutters and on my foil and after they are completley cool they come right off of the foil and out of the cookie cutters.
  14. I use the 44-24-18z wicks in my jj and have had no problems with them. I use the 4630 wax with dye chips and 1 oz. per pound of FO.
  15. I use 4630 wax for containers and love it. Great scent throw and it is soft. I have arthritis in my hands and I can take a knife and slice off what I need.
  16. 1 Tablespoon of Frangrance Oil 2 drops of candle dye 4 Tablespoons of Beads I use the chips, but I put my frangrance oil in a measuring cup and heat in microwave for 10 seconds and then stir until melted. DO NOT HEAT ANY LONGER THAN 10 SECONDS and be careful getting out of microwave because the glass could be hot. I usually use 1/4 of a chip for a batch but it depends on how dark you want the ornies to be. I use 3 inch cookie cutters I have never had my oven carry over the scent to my food. When I'm done, I turn my oven off and leave the oven door open until cool. hth (hope this helps)
  17. Sorry forgot to add how much FO and beads. For one batch it's: 1 Tablespoon FO 2 drops of dye 4 T. of beads
  18. I add my FO and color (one drop per batch) or however dark or light you want them, then add the beads. I shake mine as soon as I put the beads in then every time I walk by them I shake them. They will be ready when you shake them and they don't stick to the sides and they feel dry to the touch. Some FO's will dry in a few hours and some can take days. I bake mine at 350 for 5 min. but it will depend on your oven. They will not be smooth on top and to get them to release from the cookie cutters wipe them with some cooking oil or spray. I also bake them with some foil on my cookie sheet. Let them cool completly before you take them out of the cutters. HTH
  19. Hi, I used 4786 for a while and the wet spots drove me crazy. I tried everybodies advice and still had them. From what I have read, the wet spots are almost imposible to get rid of. Because of arthritis in my hands I switched to a softer wax 4630 and with it I have almost no wet spots.
  20. Hi, I just started making candles the first of the year. The reason I started was because I love burning scented candles and I was tired of spending money on candles that didn't burn right or didn't have a strong scent. I was searching the internet one day and happened on Cajun Candles sight and started reading all of their literature and money saving ideas as far as the little things you need. Anyway I thought I can do that and I got hooked. Like everyone said to do start with a kit. I started with the container candles. and now I've started making tarts. So start small and see if it is something you want to continue to do. Good luck and have fun.
  21. When they are completly dry they will not stick to the sides of the jar. When they are being stubborn because of the FO then first I try sitting them outside on my deck in the sun for a while and if that doesn't work then I add more beads. Some scents I have used will be dry in about 4 hours and then others will take up to 3 days. And I have heard of some scents taking up to a week or more. HTH
  22. Thanks Jane, I will find one. I'll try anything if it will help keep my fingers happy. Brenda
  23. I have read on another forum that you can use the Glad Press n Seal. I haven't tried it but they said it wouldn't affect the scent.
  24. I have used the 4786 and it has a great scent throw. I now use 4630 and it has a great scent throw too. I like the 4630 better because I can slice it with a knife. The 4786 is a hard wax and since I have arthritis in my hands it wasn't easy for me to break apart.
  25. I have used the liquid but I swear by the dye chips. I usually just use one chip per pound of wax unless I want a darker color.
