  1. And one other exception: What they call "hanging a nun in the public square" - in other words, going after the small potatoes to set an example. This is SOP for the IRS, and now we see this in the music industry where 12 year old girls are being sued by big music. This is really the exception rather than the rule, and they'd have to be darn sure the return (in scaring the small fry) is worth all the bad press they'd receive.
  2. Right on both counts. It is Des Moines - sorry Iowa. AND, it is about the $. That's why they aggressively seek cease and desist. BUT most infringement conflicts end there, unless the fool keeps on infringing OR there is big money to recover. That's the bottom line. and BTW, they have a valid right to protect and profit from the brand that they built. - Dealt with Patents and Copyrights. Spent most of my life developing intellectual property.
  3. And their time is surely better spent suing a Chinese pirate running off thousands of units than Mable the candle maker in Demoine - for which they might win a judgement for $339.45
  4. This stuff rarely goes past Cease and Desist. They may sue to get you to cease and desist, but they rarely go after monetary damages unless there is a BIG prize at stake. Why? Because lawyers cost $400 / hour (or more!)
  5. Tried my first container with 4786, and it came out with gaps between the glass and wax I heated the glass prior, but no luck. Any suggestions. Should I make vent holes with this one? Thanks!
  6. Found it, but... "For this project, I selected IGI 1343 to make the chunks as well as the overpour. If no additives are used, this wax is somewhat translucent and results in brilliant colors that have some depth to them. If you are using this wax and you intend to add fragrance oil, then the addition of vybar 103 or Universal Additive will be required. These additives will increase the opacity of the wax." Exactly why it didn't provide the information I'm looking for. To be more specific, Why do some recommend harder waxes for the chunks? What is a good pre-blended wax with good translucency?
  7. Please bear with me, I know this question must have been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for... so here goes: We want to try our hand at chunk candles - both pillar and container - using paraffin. Question is: Do we use the same wax for the chunks and the pour? If not, do we look for a harder chunk wax with the same application (harder pillar wax for pillar chunks, harder container wax for container chunks) Any wax suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
  8. Howdy, We just bought a slab of 4630 to test out in some containers. It arrived on one of our recent > 100 deg. days here in NC. It was a bag of slime to put it nicely. We used it anyway and got pretty good results... BUT seeing as my wife would like to pour a few as gifts for family that live out of state, I'm concerned about shipping. I don't want to ship anyone a container of half melted wax. Is there a harder single pour wax we can use? Which wick is best for it? If we have to go with a multi-pour, can someone point me to a "how-to" on this? Thanks!
