  1. Hi and welcome. I'm new at making candles. I started with cajun candles and before I purchased a kit I read all their information. They have a section to read that will save you money, and their kits are reasonable. I started with container candles their cheaper container kit, because I didn't have a lot money. With their kit and with what I had at home, I had what I needed. I started out with IGI 4786 which is preblended, so you don't have to worry about additives to make container candles. I have since found another place to get my wax because of the cheaper shipping. But I still get my frangrance oil (FO) wicks and other supplies from cajun. I also started out using the double boiler and it can be a pain. So when my family had bought some of my first candles (test subjects) I then saved up for a presto pot. They are wonderful. They melt the wax so much faster and the thermometer stays on. Stay with the board here because everyone is so helpful. Sorry this is so long. Brenny
  2. Thanks, I'll try those couple of things also. I'm testing some today, so with everyone's suggestions mabe I'll be ok. Brenny
  3. Hi and welcome. I'm a newbie also so I won't be a lot of help. As far as the wine bottles, I know that whatever container you use has to be heat proof if the candle is lit. Sorry I can't be of any more help.
  4. Thanks guys, I'm new to candlemaking and I'm hooked. It is so nice to be able to ask questions from people who are experienced and not feel like a dummy. I will definitly try adding fo at a higher temp. Beginner that I am I hadn't thought of that. Brenny
  5. I use 1oz to 1lb. wax. Wax is preblended ici 4786.
  6. Hi, I use a preblended wax for container candles. I melt the wax to 170 then add my color and stir for 2 min. and then add my fo and stir another 2 min. I use a presto pot and candy themomater(sp). I also heat my jars to 170 (lowest setting on oven) then I pour wax slowly into jars. When I get done doing to first pour I see like an oil slick in the wax at the bottom of the pot. Any more suggestions? Brenny
  7. Hi and welcome. I am also new to candle making. It does seem overwhelming, but like everyone said just take your time and test. I also use my family in testing. I started out using Cajun Candle Supplies. They helped me alot. They have kits and instructions for any kind of candle you want to make. They also have a section for beginners and how to save money on supplies. They also explain the different types of wax and soy. Their scents are great and I have never had to use more than 1oz. per pound of wax. Hope this helps. This forum is great and everyone is willing help you. Brenny
  8. Hi Jamers, I'm new to the forum too. I understand about shipping. I don't know if this will help or not but have you tried Cajun Candle in Louisiana? Their items are great and they offer a lot of help. Brenny
  9. Hi, my email is sick for some reason. I'm not ignoring you.
  10. I have used about 6 or 7 of cajun's scents, mostly kitchen-baking scents as I call them, banana nut bread, cherry etc. The only trouble I've had is when I tried their J223 one pour wax. I made 3 scents and none of them smelled very strong, so I guess it was the wax???? I wish I could help you. I'll go searching and see if I can find out anything for you. Don't give up yet. Brenda
  11. Hi Flowers, I haven't tried pillar candles yet. From what I have read, the scent isn't as strong in pillar candles. I just make container candles. According to cajun I am supposed to use just 1 0z. per pound of wax. But I have also read that you should weigh your scents because they are measued by volume. I hope I got that right. Have you emailed cajun and asked them about it? I have tried a couple of other candle company's scents and I still go back to Cajun. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help. Brenda
  12. Thanks everyone. I'm checking all of the sights. Its really nice to have someplace to go to ask questions. Leandra, welcome to Indiana. I am about 50 miles north of Indianapolis.

  14. Hi, I'm a rookie also. I have been ordering from Cajun Candle Co. They have great instructions and suggestions to save money. They also have good starting kits. Their scents are 100% pure & uncut. I am looking for another wax supplier because I live in IN. and the shipping costs are high for the wax. I will continue to buy the rest of my supplies from them tho. Hope this helps. I just joined the forum today. Brenda
  15. Hi, I started making candles about 3 mo. ago. I've been ordering thru Cajun Candle and they are great. They have strong scents and I have received great service. But I need a candle supplier closer to Indiana to order IGI wax from because of shipping costs. I will continue ordering the other supplies from Cajun Candle. Does anyone know of a supply place closer to IN? Thanks Brenny
