  1. I love my presto pot too. It melts the wax twice and fast as a double boiler and its easier to maintain the pouring temp.
  2. Bitter Creek has excellent FO's and Cajun Candle does too.
  3. A kit is the best way to go. I started with a kit to make sure I wanted to do this. (from Cajun Candle) And then I started reading and reading some more. And then i was hooked. Bitter Creek North or South have kits: Candle Science, and Peak Candle Supplies. Those are the ones I've used so far. It just depends on where you are located as to which one to use to save on shipping. Good luck and have fun. Brenda
  4. Can you put stearic acid in the 4630 wax to harden it up enought to make tarts?
  5. I have a Presto that has a mind of its own sometimes. It will start melting immediately but it seems like it gets stuck on a temp. and doesnt want to go any higher. I don't know if I maybe hit it when I'm getting the dye and FO ready or what... but I do jiggle the magnetic part until the light comes on. I actually think its possessed.
  6. I've been using jj to make my candles in but would like to use tins also. Does anyone know of a place fairly close to Indiana that have good prices for them? Thanks, Brenda
  7. Hi and welcome to the board. I started with a candle kit from Cajun Candles but Peak has good ones too. I can't help you much because I make Paraffin candles and tarts. Everyone here is very helpful if you have questions. Welcome to the addiction. Brenda
  8. I also started out with a container kit from Cajun Candles. CC are great, they have detailed instructions also. Because of shipping from LA. to IN. I swithched to Bitter Creek North. They also have good kits, and FO.'s like Cajun. Starting out with a kit will give you an idea of whether making candles is what you want to do. It is addicting tho but fun.
  9. Hi, welcome to the board. Its a fun, learning place to be.
  10. I use mica powder in my ornies and I sprinkle a tiny little pinch on top of my container candles, but like ChrisR said do not use in your wax because they will clog up your wick.
  11. Welcome aboard. Don't be afraid to ask questions, because there is always someone that is willing to answer them for you.
  12. Welcome, Welcome. Get ready to make a lot of friends and get help whenever you need it.
  13. Cabin Creek Candles, Wasn't there some other way of getting your point across than being rude on a public forum. Any one may use my name which is Brenda. I don't post that much but I consider everyone a friend here. Everyone is so willing to help and give advice whether you are a newbie (which I am) or an experienced candle maker. I just don't like rudeness.
  14. Welcome Chris. I'm a fellow Hoosier also. I've only been making container candles for about 6 mo., so I'm not an expert either. I use parafin wax and I use 1 oz. pp of wax. Some times you might have to adjust that with some of the FO (frangrance oils). Anyway welcome to an addicting and fun thing to do.
  15. Hi, check out Cajun Candle's web sight. They explain the different kinds of wax and you can understand it. Their website is what made me to decide to use IGI 4786. It is a wax that you have to do a repour on. I've tried the one pour, but for me, I decided to go back to the 4786. They will also give you a starting point with the wicks. Hope it helps.
  16. Does anyone know which HTP wick is the same size as 44-24-18z 6 inch?
  17. Hey, I had a history of sinus trouble and infections before I started making candles. I have only been making candles about 5 months and my sinuses aren't any better or worse so I guess I'll live thru this addiction and if not I will have had fun doing something I love.:highfive:
  18. Hi, I make jj also. I don't use the same kind of wax but I use IGI 4786 and a 44-24-18z wick. I heat my wax to 170, add my dye, stir for 2 min. slowly, then add my scent and stir again for about 2 min. I also heat my jars at the lowest temp. of my oven which is 170 also. Hope this helps a little. Oh yea, I use a regular candy thermometer also.:smiley2:
  19. Welcome!:smiley2: Peak, millcreek, and also cajun.
  20. Hi, I'm still a newbie but I use 4786 for containers and the 44-24-18z wicks. So far so good.:smiley2:
  21. Has anyone tried using these for tarts? I'm always looking for something different and had some empty ones from my grandaughter being here. Didn't know if they would work or not.
  22. Hot glue is the only thing i use. I warm my jars and I let them set for a couple of minutes before I put the wicks in. The lowest setting on my oven is 170.
