  1. Debbie by no means do we want to scare you away and on the positive side it is totally theraputic and the most wonderful feeling to just sit back and relax and smell the wonderful aroma of what you made. On the other side....I WOULD NOT BUY MY SUPPLIES FROM MICHAELS!!!! If you want to truly know what it means to make a great candle, buy you a slab of wax and your favorite scent and a sample pack of wicks and use what jars you have at home and make them that way. If you have an old pot at home you can melt in / or buy a pot from Michaels and double boiler it and go from there. Michaels sells a kit that contains the pot, wicking and a thermometer. OR you could buy a candle making kit from any supplier. Oh and you will need a scale to weigh your FO's I forgot that one thing.... This way you can actually see the difference between what you can do from good quality supplies and you will know if this is something you want to do. I really hope you try it!!
  2. Welcome Debbie!!!! It is nice to have you with us! If you are just going to play around you can do that for under $100 but if you are anticipating making money then there are a lot of things you will need to get started......but the biggest thing you will need is time. Time to test and re test and test again to make sure you have a product worth selling to others. Safety first!!!! It will take you time to learn the ins and outs of candle making and then you have to learn all of the techniques. BUT with pursaverance and time you will master the art. Let's see with cost...... $60.00/case of wax $50.00 FO (just to start) $10.00 Wicks $6.00 Jars $10.00 Color blocks $24.00 heat gun $ 19.99 Presto Pot $20.00 additional pots (4lb) sold in craft stores $5.00 thermometer $5.00 wick holders Wow....that is alot GOOD LUCK!!!!
  3. Our Daughter got on the honor roll again this time too and it just amazes me how she is so smart at school but has no common sense at home?? How do you get straight A's and cannot remember to change your underwear? :undecided
  4. I know it is one of my best sellers but OMG, I have to leave all of the windows and doors open in the house when I make that one. UUGGGH!!!!
  5. Is that not the best fo you have ever smelled???? Love that one. Got it burning in the bathroom.
  6. Jordan....who is the guy as your avatar??? Oh and their Santa's Kitchen smells pretty good.
  7. Lovespell make anyone else nauseous while you are pouring???:undecided
  8. My husband says he needs to go back to school to learn this all over again. I wonder if they have a refresher course for parents?
  9. I have to walk outside and smell the good clean country air. I actually just did that b/c my hubby has lit every candle I have on the first floor so I have sooooo many different scents in the air I cannot tell one from the other. He loves to burn them more than I do.
  10. Welcome to the board. I am new as well and have really enjoyed sharing and learning.
  11. I swear I had almost found a recipe for cupcakes when I saw this!!!! My 2 yr old was drooling over me b/c he thought it was real. He actually tried to take my computer to see if he could get it out of the screen!! I am so on a diet but now I think I have to raid the kids halloween candy. I cannot believe that is actually soap!!!!
  12. Thank you for sharing.... I love those and I think my kids will too. I have been looking for something else to add to my shows. To be honest, I am bored with candle making. SSHHHHH!!! Dont tell the others!
  13. I agree with soy, get a heat gun. They are the best little inventions!!!! What type of wax are you using? I had that problem with a blend I was using.
  14. With all of the heightened security these days on planes.....do you think they will allow you to bring that on board? Just curious.
  15. Bea~ I am sorry I did not mean to scare you on the warming your jars thing.....You took me aback on that one. I actually put mine on the stove to wick them and that is where my presto pot and double boiler sit so they get the radiated heat and they have always seemed fine. I have never intentionally warmed my jars, I guess I have never had a reason. Although knocking on wood...if a problem arises I will know that I should take that step. BUT ya know what if it works for you, then you do it however you wish.
  16. Here is a website that sells golden harvest jars, not sure how you order but worth checking out for $6.24 per case. http://www.gambercontainer.com/glass.html
  17. I love those colors but I have a dumb question.......I am guessing that is the mold that ya'll use for regular size soaps? How do you get them out? Just being nosy on the BB side.
  18. Can Ya'll come over to VA and help my daughter with her homework?? 6th grade Math sucks.
  19. Warming your jars??? I out my lids on shortly after they have set up, just to move on and get them out of the way, My only concern putting them on b4 they set up is messing up my nicely centered wicks with the lids.
  20. It could be my nose. IAlthough it does has a really crisp clean smell. I will take a trip to BB and see how theirs smells. Thanks for the tip!
  21. Ya'll are all so creative!!!! You should be proud.
  22. I use candles and supplies and candlewic and I am using J50 wax.
  23. Southern Vanilla?? Is that a good one? I have not seen that one, where do you get it? I have tried Frostbite from Justscents and it is really minty smells like the gum that has the crystals in it.
  24. Good suggestion Mindy! I too do not add color to my vanilla's b/c the FO colors it just right.
  25. They do look really clean....are those mason jars? I have wicked mine sometimes with CD 14's and they work great like that and sometimes I get more soot (depends on which wax) What do they look like with CD 12's? Just curious.
