  1. I was going to pour up a few containers of new scents to play with, but got a call for another order tonight. I made it right away though as I have other NON candle stuff to do this weekend! I did make a candle that I thought would frost badly but tempered the wax, and I made single wicked in an apoth (soy). So it's my "candle impossible"... heavy fo, lots of dye... should be a fun experiment... -Kristi
  2. I got a call tonight for 4 20 oz container candles in various scents (not already made up) to be delivered on Sunday.... Hmmm... just a bit last minute! Done now though... :rolleyes2 -Kristi
  3. My fav is http://www.buywax.com They do charge handling :rolleyes2 , but the tins are very reasonably priced. -Kristi
  4. Watch out when you pour it- people will come flocking from all corners of the house asking "What is that deLIGHTful smell???" (that is a quote from my 8 yo ds btw). I only got 1 oz to test, and he wants me to order more NOW. Filled the house when pouring.... -Kristi
  5. Agreeing with the buttercream smell (CS very vanilla)... It's almost like a vanilla frosting, but I think the more notes it has in it with the vanilla the more it will throw. I like this one so far... -Kristi
  6. I may be shooting myself in the foot with this new one... I'm doing Mulberry to see if I can get it to clean the edges! AND I'm REALLY dyeing the wax... 4 drops of red AND 4 drops of black for one pound! I'm tempering the wax by letting it harden all the way with just the color and UV added and then melting back and adding the FO at 160, then pouring... I figured what the heck... lol... -Kristi
  7. awww, crap! I knew I forgot something... lol... There was a slight bit of frosty hangup on the jar on the far side of the wick. I cleaned the jar out last night to retest too... shoot! There was the deep part of the apoth (it has like a channel around the edges with the built up middle) and all together there was maybe 2 ounces of wax total left in the jar when I melted and cleaned it back out. There may have been less, but I actually blew it out instead of waiting for it to put itself out. (Hey, I was following my own directions for once lol). I'll just have to do it again and take pics this time.... :rolleyes2 -Kristi
  8. After looking at your site- well, WOW! I have a request though, do you think that you can find several different eye colored models? I LOVE the way they look, but have no clue what would look good with blue eyes... I usually get the earth tones to set them off, but they just didn't wow me in the model pics on the site... (and if you need another tester, look no further lolol) -Kristi
  9. With GW 464, a 16 oz apothecary, a CD 22 and This Old House (TCS)... NO SOOTING and I burned to the bottom. It never "torched" on me and the melt pool was even and perfect! I was thinking that since 464 has such a low melt point, maybe it would work to single wick. Yippeee!!! Now, not all scents would do that, I know, but this one was perfect! I'm gonna play with them this year and see if maybe I can have a dependable line to single wick in those jars for NEXT Christmas... the burn time was AWESOME (took a loooongggg time to test). -Kristi
  10. The easiest I've found to work with has been GW 464. It has a lower melt point so the wicking is easier and you pour pretty hot so no waiting for the slushy stage. -Kristi
  11. Well, it sounds like the fragrances are good (although there really are some scents that are just light). The 170 degrees sounds ok to add at- just make sure you stir stir stir... The only other factor you could change would be the wax... -Kristi
  12. Glad you were able to work it out with him! Now hopefully his employees won't fight over which scents they want lol!!! -Kristi
  13. I did pretty well with Drs offices and dental offices. Those nurses LOVE candles and some stuff flew (like pink sugar). I made less than I needed this year and then reordered supplies the end of November to make some more. After "christmas shopping" through my own stock, I have only about 6 candles left and they're not Christmasy scents- yeah! It worked! -Kristi
  14. Some scents themselves are naturally lighter than others, giving them less throw. What wax are you using and how hot are you adding the fragrance? Maybe it's not incorporating well... In the spring the FO companies online will start to have $1 sample sales. It's great for testing. I highly recommend buying some samples to test against the Yaley ones... you may be very surprised! -Kristi
  15. Hmmm, I just got my free sample right before Thanksgiving... it was White Tea and Berries... but I ordered it right when Blackberry Marmalade came out... -Kristi
  16. Mine were #1 Pumpkin Souffle (CS) #2 Cranberry Marmalade (CS) #3 Spicy Apples and Peaches (TCS) #4 Mistletoe (CS) Amish Harvest (TCS) did pretty well too. And in all honesty, Pumpkin Souffle did really really really well and I had to reorder oils part way through. #2 and #3 were ALMOST too close to call, neck and neck. Mistletoe did well with certain audiences and not well at all with others. My out of nowhere that I ran out of oils for was Pink Sugar (NG)... now I must order more... ick... -Kristi
  17. Yes, you're supposed to if you add which sample to the comment section of the order! -Kristi
  18. Well, after browsing ICS for a while, I'm getting my Pink Sugar from there (even though I hate it)... I'm consoling myself with getting a few others too... Pink Grapefruit and Ginger, Red Currant and Thyme Tea, Mango Papaya, Caramelized Pralines, and Japanese Plum... I just need to wait for some Christmas money before I place my order! Yeah! -Kristi
  19. For the size it's not a bad price, but for my money I'd rather get a few different scents! -Kristi
  20. I have gotten wicks with 3 mm tabs from Nature's Garden and Bittercreek North..... -Kristi
  21. Try moving it to another place in the room. Some places just have bad air currents. Weird, but true! -Kristi
  22. OH yeah. It's the musk that stinks. I've got to be VERY careful which FO's I order cause I can't do musk at all (now white musk seems to be not so bad). I can't do Warm Van Sugar either... my dd got some for Christmas from a friend and I can't stand near her. ICK! That would be why I'm pretty sure I'm just stuck with headaches or I have to discontinue it... I always make a whole batch so I have extra and don't have to pour that one as often... -Kristi
  23. Just so you know, you can use pliers to pull the wick out from the wicktab and viola- wickless candle... that's what people do who don't want to wait for me to make one, but have to show that they aren't burning it (college dorms, work, etc). -Kristi
  24. Mistletoe FO does the same thing- it's just discoloration. Looks icky, but doesn't affect anything. -Kristi
