  1. That's great! Hope the other forms that are still out bring you even more!
  2. If you can't get that one in the shape you want it in, check thrift stores or yard sales. Sometimes you can find them at these places that are really clean.
  3. I'm thinking yellow, with a little brown maybe?
  4. at the pumpkin question But about FOs, what I did when I first started testing, is I did the sample packs as mentioned above from several different places. I think most of the suppliers of FO do some kind of sample thing, but I can't say for sure if they all do. Now that I have been testing for awhile, I find that I use several suppliers for my FO, depending on the exact scent I am looking for. As also mentioned, shipping plays a role in it as well, but if I find a scent I really like and want, I dont care how far across the country they are, I will order it. Since we dont know your wax, when looking for an FO supplier, some will give you a yes/no or strong/not so strong review of how it works in soy. Of course something they say is strong for them, may not be for you, it's all in the grand chemistry scheme of things in how you made yours opposed to how they did theirs. Also, check the suppliers section from time to time, suppliers will run sales on FOs and then you can be like the rest of us who have a zillion and one 99 cent 1oz samplers to play with
  5. I have the plastic centering tools for my 8oz jars and tins, but for smaller jars/tins I use the sticks as well. I talked my husband into drilling some for me. I use a clothes pin to secure the extra wick length to the stick. I dont own a lot of the centering tools, so if I were to get a large order, I would use the sticks for my 8oz things as well.
  6. Darn that Hilde, she's ahead of me lol. I have never even attempted a pillar, the thought almost gives me a panic attack, I'm so afraid I will have wax all over the place
  7. The only time I have had people in my home was back in Kansas for 2 different open houses. I invited friends who brought friends/co-workers with them. My friends of course come by to pick theirs up, but otherwise I have met them out somewhere. I usually try and pick a place half way or in an area I will be out and about in anyway, but it doesnt always work out that way. I haven't done it but 3 times and I didnt charge a fee, but now that I think about it, I know I should because it does take gas to get there.
  8. Just jumping off the topic, but something like that show is just one of many reasons people think it's just that easy to make a candle. Uughh lol
  9. I just wanted to say again how lucky I feel I found CT. I first found it researching candle making a while before I even started posting, and read the current as well as the archives, especially over morning coffee. This thread reminds me why I feel lucky because had I got an email like this, my husband would have had to peel me off the ceiling I would have been so happy thinking I was "special" and that someone wanted that many of my products. And, had I not read here, I would have most likely done whatever it took to make this person happy, even if it meant I spent money. More likely than not, I would have been disappointed when I never heard from the lady again, and I would have felt bad and wondered what I had done to have run her off. But, because of CT, I am very leary about those who email and I know just what to say/ask when it happens because of the great people here who have been there and done that before me. So yay for all the great people here that are willing to share the good, bad and the ugly
  10. I think the boat goes very well with your company. And for making do for table covering, to me it looks very nice. I would be thrilled to make 6x the fee. At that rate you might get your yacht after all Nice job!
  11. Ah ok, I was thinking for packing to sell, not as display, so I was way off lol
  12. What I have done many times with the beanie type bears, or for those who want scent without the wax, I inject the animals with FO with syringes you use to give animals medication. You can get them online or at local feed supply type stores. But for sure the longer the hair on the critter the better they fluff.
  13. I wish I could encourage you, but I am a fo ho too lol. Every time someone had the 99 cent per oz sale I was all over it. I did finally decide on a set number of regular line scents and then some limited edition for like christmas fall etc. Yeah, that didn't last long, so now I'm trying to use up as many of my samples as I can making friends and family some candles and melts in hopes that if I downsize the samplers I will stop. Someone pass me a drink too, it's really close to 5 here in Washington, but it's 5 where some of you are so we will go with YOUR time
  14. Well I think you did an awesome job!! Very classy and high end in appearance. And just think, if your local customers are anything like me, when I get a nice bag like that, I use it for other things, like bringing in snacks to my desk at work, and then it gets seen by others. And too, once you have them out there a lot locally, when one gets a gift that's in that bag, they will love the gift even before they open and see what's inside.
  15. That's great! I bet soon you will be swamped with customers with the holidays just around the corner
  16. Yeah true about the pillars, I should have added that I haven't power burned anything larger than 8oz, so with 8oz or less containers, I have burned them from early am till very late at night. I dont power burn every time I test either as someone mentioned, usually just when testing new container/wick combos.
  17. Just wanted to comment on your name and avatar, one of the best dogs we ever had was a Malamute :smiley2:
  18. I was looking on their site and only see their tealites in a box, and can't remember how the tarts are packaged other than by themselves. Are you looking for something like a clear acetate box similar to these? http://www.papermart.com/Pages/plasticbox_welcome.htm?GOCMP=Papermart%5FCampaign+%231&GOMTC=Phrase&GOKEY=acetate+box
  19. Yeah, I agree, if it's done in that fashion, as in kid gets treat in the bag and it's (sample) handed to the parent, I see nothing wrong with it. I used to hate when my kids would be dumping their bags out for inspection and they would have stuff not related to treats in them. Now had I been personally handed something like she's talking about while out with my kids, I would have loved it and if I liked it, would have ordered from who gave it to me.
  20. Wow, that is so cool! Something I have never seen before and something not at every craft show probably.
  21. I have no advice on what the label for AF should look like, but wanted to say I think your candles look GREAT! Love the staging in the pics too!
  22. In a word YES it's better to start with a kit. It will take most of the guesswork out of your first time. Not all kits are perfect, sometimes the wick isnt exactly the one you might need, but it puts you in the right direction opposed to buying each think individually and having to guess. It will also save you money, which is something I think we all want to do
  23. This is a good point. We know a lot of times customers dont bother to read the warning label, and I will admit to being one of them before I got into this. I never left one burning all night or left the house with one lit, but I will admit to being a power burner because I had no idea it was a bad thing. That said, I think including a safety card/paper along with the candle is a great idea. Of course there will be those who toss it, but there will also be those who read it. Had I got such a paper along with my candle, I would have read it long before just a label. (as you can tell, I bought a lot of dollar store type candles where I should have been getting them from those who make them, I know I know, I was bad :embarasse )
  24. I'm testing some new jars out, setting up the lightbox so I can get some shots of products, and doing some packaging/labeling I have been putting off for awhile.
