  1. I think it's a pretty good job for a first and I commend you on that. What makes the wax look not so smooth? I haven't tried these. Would love to some day, but that's when I own space the size of the Grand Canyon lol. Am curious those about what causes the wax not to look as smooth.
  2. They can try and apparently are doing so. I agree, with your statement, but it sucks in the aspect that people will think everyone's pillars will burn poorly and need a container to either keep its shape or perhaps, if they tunnel badly as another says, catch any potential overflow. Nifty idea, but I hate the name 100%. I can just see customers now ... "What are these? No, they can't be pillars. Pillars come in jars."
  3. When I looked I saw every indication they were no more.
  4. So I hope you update if it discolors. Hope it doesn't. I like the look as it is now!
  5. Possibly, but isn't Tea Tree an anchor? Or are these two different scents and what was the % of EO used, that could have some affect too. It's been my understanding that EOs tend to fade faster than FOs, well that's what I heard somewhere, but I'm not totally buying that either.
  6. I'll stay away from Kangaroo Blue, but have you got a link to Soap Making Resource? I'd like to see it.
  7. I disagree. I think Soap and Other Obsessions by Zonella Gould and Sally Trew is a worthy book to have.
  8. So you're loading the mold with chunks, pouring in hot wax and then dropping the color right? I found the hotter the wax the easier the color travels. I also found another way to cheat at this lol!
  9. God, a redefined definition for pillar candles. Love it, grrr. Yes, the public is that stupid.
  10. So now that you have another batch under you, like it any more? The batch looks good. You're after the ever elusive red that a lot of us are searching for (just thought I would welcome you to search lol!)
  11. Point made. Wish I could see a transcript or hear one in regards to what went down in Mass. Just updating with a link about New York legislation. http://personalcaretruth.com/2011/09/legislation-in-new-york/
  12. Donna Marie's brief update on the Mass. hearing that was yesterday. http://www.indiebusinessblog.com/
  13. Try $105 for 7 lbs of jojo. I was able to get some though for about $12 a pound, so I got two pounds since I don't have room for more, but thinking I better go stock up some more at that price.
  14. Well that's a relief, because I can't do bulk on everything, but all I saw were bulk options at the time.
  15. I have it, but haven't used it. I need to do that. It reminds me of Blue Sugar and Amber. So does the pink ambre, but with pink sugar.
  16. Like with all HDPE you have to season it several times before you don't have to do so any more. The 25 lb mold came with a liner. When I didn't put mineral oil on it, I had trouble getting the liner off. When I did, it was much easier. Then I just started using the MO on the sides and wrapping the liner in freezer paper. I am a real impatient sort of person when it comes to soap molds so when I want to use the mold again and couldn't, I went to the freezer paper liner. I am wanting to go to the clear ones next though. I simply have to have one so I'm saving up for it. If you go with Rich, ask him what he suggests. He's really an honest person and does some soapmaking himself.
  17. What I do ... and I'm CP only ... is prep my water, prep the hard oils and get the liquids measured out, then I add the lye to the water, melt the hard oils and then add the liquids (usually the scent unless I know it's going to discolor), about 2 to 3 hours later they have both typically come down to 75-80 degrees. I prefer to soap cool. The chiro got the hip to move and I'm sore, but feeling much better, thanks! Some of your white might be the palm, so make sure that you get it incorporated well. You don't use a lot of it and neither do I, but I use more than you do. If it's the no stir kind of palm that's better than the other where you have to mix it up.
  18. Bittercreek South has a pumpkin cheesecake FO for soap. Quite strong.
  19. What do you want to make? Logs or slabs? With Soaphutch you can make both. A few people have had success with the clear molds (that was years ago when I knew people who had them) but all I have is the HDPE and I love them. He has a mondo one that you can do slabs and/or logs. That's what I love about the versatility with his molds.
  20. Kinda wondering if I will be making anything more. I'm not a big fan of books for labels. I make because I know what's in it. I sell because I want my customers to be able to understand what they're buying, not go back to being majorly confused. I know if half of the crap on this proposed bill passes that it won't be worth my time trying to figure out every last drop of what's in there when I won't be able to get the process used for the distilled water alone. I can't afford to have everything scientifically tested so I know how much x is there and how much y and then z.
  21. If you want, take a look at Essential Wholesale's blends and see what you think about them. I haven't used them, but she carries EOs at a reasonable price too. I like to make my own stuff. http://www.essentialwholesale.com/Bulk-Cosmetics-Natural-Organic_2
