  1. I forgot about that, Donita. I friend recently gave me one of those straw things that you hold the cheap paper plates with covered with shells she had picked up and cleaned from the beach outside my house. A lot of the gift shops around here also have mirrors framed with them. My mother used to make mobiles with them. Our island house is old and rustic. We've been lucky about not blowing away here in hurricane alley.
  2. I haven't sold many of them, but I sell for $8 here. Shipping costs put my costs so high. Most of the folks around here want preserve or gel candles from me. So many of the kids do candle fundraisers that most are "forced" to buy so don't care for more plain jar candles.
  3. Wholesale Supplies Plus seems to have a good lotion base. I read a post recommending it. However, the shipping seems kinda high. I need some asap and don't want to pay a bunch for shipping if I have to wait 2 wks for it. Could anyone please tell me what your experience has been with this company? Many thanks.:undecided
  4. I really love those colors!
  5. Hi, and welcome. I'm also a retired teacher. Too bad wax sometimes talks back in weird and nasty ways, too. :awww:
  6. Never tried to log on. I just get the emails regularly from them. You must have been bidding against me! I was surprised at how many bid over the amount that you can buy it off the website!
  7. I pretty much thought that had to be some bs. She went on and on about skin cancer, etc. Said she used to make soy candles but quit because of the cancer factor! At any rate, when I want lotion, I use lotion. Not gonna melt a candle for it! Unless maybe I ever run out during one of our infamous hurricanes and am sitting around reading by candlelight!
  8. You must live near a supplier! The shipping costs kill me.
  9. Been there and done that! Walked away from the dishwasher. When I returned, there were bubbles everywhere! What a mess.
  10. I haven't tried the sampler because it didn't look like I had the choice of picking my own. However, I joined their newsletter group and was notified when they had a $1 per 1 oz bottle sale with no limits to how many. I ordered about 30 that way. Also, the newsletter lets you know when they're having an ebay sale. They do that about every month or so with a lot of their 4 oz listed with starting bid at 2.99. I've picked up several of those. Bidding gets tough, though. I've been happy with their service.
  11. I went to a huge flea market to check out candle sellers and saw the same demonstration. I'm of the same opinion as Jeana in that the concept seems silly to me. I went to another building and found someone selling paraffin candles. When I mentioned soy, she informed me that the soy candles/lotions cause cancer. I haven't looked that up, but I am wondering if any of you have any knowledge of this.
  12. Jooniper, go to Donita's homepage link and check out her tide pool candles. They are to die for! If I had those for sale here at Pawleys Island I wouldn't be able to keep up with the orders!
  13. Wow! I am so envious of you folks. I would love to attend something like that. Maybe some time in the future. Have fun & please be sure to let all of us unfortunates know all about it!
  14. Those are beautiful, Candle Man. Some of the prettiest I've ever seen are on Donita's website. I live right on the beach so can pick up as many as my lazy self will but don't know how to do those candles. I've only used them in gels.
  15. I'm on ancient dial up, too, and got the little red x. After a minute or so the graphic appeared.
  16. Congratulations! Looks like you have a good start. Did notice that the graphics were slow loading.
  17. I need one, too. How is it in soy?
  18. I'm thinking that my impatience is what the problem with these last 2 candles is. I got overly anxious and burned after only 1 or 2 days cure time. I'm also burning one I made a couple of months ago in the same type container, same wick, but different scent. I can smell it all over the house!
  19. I bought my first soap supplies and candle stuff on ebay. When I got hooked, if I liked the seller, I would always try to buy again. Several of the sellers I really liked had their websites listed on the about me page. I always go to the website to purchase now to save them the ebay fees. Also, I did notice that lots of times the ebay prices were higher than the website prices unless I got lucky with an auction item. Ebay has been a help for me finding suppliers.
  20. I've bought scents that were listed as "excellent" for soy throw. They smelled great. Burned them and NOTHING. I'm burning one now done in Black Cherry from Aroma Haven that was supposed to have a "good" soy throw. Nothing. On the 6th burn and I think I smell it but not sure. Had a friend test burning one in Chocolate Layer Cake that is rated "excellent." She says she smelled nothing. Go figure. :undecided
  21. Would love to win that raffle. What's the cause?
  22. Oooh, Vicky, those look good enough to eat.
  23. Got a 1 oz sample of the Black Currant and Nectarine with my order today. You're right--it's wonderful. So is the Hansel & Gretel's House. Still need some answers about any suppliers along I73 from SC to VA
  24. I just received an order from Candle Science which included Hansel & Gretel's House. It is yummy! Just hope it is as nice in the cb135 I bought. They also included 1 oz. of Black Currant & Nectarine. Smells great, too. Have any of you used either of these in soy?
