  1. .06 x 12 = .72 oz .94 x 12 = 11.28 oz ---------------- 100 ........ 12.00 oz If you want 6% FO you want 94% wax. You total equals 100%
  2. I bought my paraffin a couple of years ago. It has been in my basement - cool, but not damp - in a plastic tub. I have been pouring rustic pillars the past few days and I suddenly can't get frost to save my soul but I've been getting mottles like I've never seen before! My steric is equally as old (also kept in plastic tub) and I could see it getting old and not making the frost anymore, but that doesn't explain the mottles. thoughts?
  3. I also have a work area in the basement. I just call it my work room. My son calls it my meth lab.
  4. I have 2 shows next weekend...must be that time of year. I just finished peppermint, Strawberry Parfait, Harvest and Hot Cocoa melts. It's too late to start more pillars tonight so tomorrow will be peppermint and sandalwood (not together!). Good luck to all who have shows!
  5. It does look very nice and I hope you do well. I also hope you have those burners up higher where people can see them. No woman in her right mind is going to bend over and stick her arse in the air in the middle of the mall for a burner. :tiptoe:
  6. Ha! I've had the online conversion bookmarked for years and never knew the percentage calc was in there! I have an excel spreadsheet with common weights and 3 columns for 4, 6, and 9% taped on the wall above my workbench.
  7. I second that! Even if it is just a hobby for you, you will never look back!
  8. oh, I just love when you "play around"!!! I want to go play with hot wax now, but I'm babysitting my grandbabies tonight.
  9. What temperature are you pouring at? Pouring hot will give you less volume. Technically, your math is correct. With smaller batches like that I just take the 14.8 oz of wax and add the .9 oz of FO.
  10. And remember, RRD wicks are directional. If you cut them mark the end you cut and attach your new wick tab there.
  11. Do not heat directly on your stove - always use a double boiler. Get your water boiling then turn the heat down and, as others have said, don't let the temp get too high. Using a double boiler you are highly unlikely to "blow anything up". Direct heat will get your wax too hot and cause a fire. I learned that lesson once.
  12. I don't use your specific waxes, but I mix 3/4 pillar paraffin with 1/4 para/soy container wax for my tarts. My paraffin is straight though, not a blend.
  13. I use Tri-State's. It is almost a citrus scent. I describe it to people as white noise for the nose. I don't deep fry much but when I do I always burn an odor eater candle and I believe it takes the grease scent out of my house.
  14. I use liquid, but I mix my own blocks in dixie cups. I have basic colors and mix orange - for example - I write the number of drops of red and yellow on the side of the dixie cup then fill it about 3/8" full of wax. Mix it and let it harden. Then if I need just a shave of a color, I can get it. If I need a deep color, I know how many drops of each will make my desired shade. I have bottles of liquid that I have had for years and they still work perfectly well.
  15. dip one Qtip in each of the oils and put them in a bottle or zip loc. In another put 2 Qtips of cappuccino and one vanilla. In another try 2 vanilla and one cappuccino. Make sure you mark them! Try different combinations till you find the one you want then mix the oils in the same proportion.
  16. Do you have a hobby lobby near you? In the candy section you will find all kinds of polycarbonate molds that you can use for tarts. And with their 40% off coupon you can get some deals. Get some ziploc plastic containers (with number 5 in a triangle on the bottom) and store your tarts in there - one scent per container. ps Love your avatar!
  17. That is adorable! I love everything about it, including the moo! Good job. It will be a hit, I'm sure.
  18. have to agree - they are amazing. If I didn't see the wick in them.... WOW
  19. I'd say it looks pretty good. The bow ties are fabulous, aren't they? But I really want to know about the Reindeer Poo in the background.
  20. It does look very nice. You can add bits of color with solid color cloth napkins. You can pick them up fairly cheaply, roll them - don't fold them - and they won't wrinkle and you can mix 'n match or set at angles. I would also add some height to the soap table. It doesn't have to be risers...find a short birdbath or a wash basic and pitcher and fill it with soaps. Something that will catch people's eye and get people into your booth. I always take pictures of my set ups and note the booth size. I have 4' and 5' tables and can figure a set up to work most anywhere. And I will usually do a show twice. If I bomb a second time, I cross it off my list.
  21. Printers are cheap, ink and toner are the money makers. sad, but true I would be cautious about refilling the cartridges. You can only do that so many times and then they leak all over the printer and you have to buy a new printer. And newer printers have more expensive cartridges. Ask me how I know.
  22. Peak Black Canyon - I love it and think it is a masculine scent. Women tend to love or hate it, but most guys I have asked say it smells like baby powder! Weird
  23. I noticed - only because I'm too lazy to pour my own! Guess I need to suck it up and start pouring them again. I couldn't believe how little they were the last time I bought a bag. sheesh!
  24. When I was buying wholesale and picking up or doing business within my state if I didn't want to pay sales tax I had to fax a copy of my tax ID. They can also scan and email it to you...
