  1. They burn completely different in different waxes so you can’t really compare them to each other like that from different makers unless they are also using 6006. 5-7 hours is doable but in 6006 you’d have to really dial in the size, but then that goes back to the whole consistency thing because it won’t ever be the same every time. The .02 flat wicks have problems staying lit (but are more ideal), but the booster version can work too if it likes the wax.
  2. The most you should expect is to find a wick that will only burn semi-properly if you meticulously trim it, in which case you'll need a decent thickness. Probably around .03 or the booster .02 or .03 depending on the fragrance load / dye levels you use. The more you use, the thicker / wider wick you'll need. You're not going to get a straight clean burn with the wicks from The Wooden Wick Co, which we are stuck with because they had the decent ones taken off of the market because they own the patents for them. The chinese ones off ebay / amazon are even worse. You sometimes get a few unicorn wicks in a bag which burn perfectly but it's impossible to tell which ones they are beforehand.
  3. CandleScience is easily the fastest to ship for me lately, Aztec pretty fast too.....but the other part of your question depends on 2 things. ‘Good throw’ depends on luck of the batch, and amount of experience using soy.
  4. Yep, same story when I used to test all their stuff. I don't use any of it now, and probably never will again. Unless they come out with a wooden wick that actually works consistently but I don't see that happening. Some of the FO's smell nice but there was nothing I couldn't live without, especially for the ridiculous price.
  5. Coconut wax on it's own..... I won't go through that ever again... but in a blend with something like soy then it can work out pretty good after some experimenting. I actually really liked Northwood's own coconut wax but the price is just absolutely ridiculous. If it was the 'be all and end all' of coconut wax then I might have considered using it as one of my main waxes, but it's not, it's still nice though.
  6. Yeah, has to be that. Reminds me of soy candles I used to make where the same thing would happen. Great CT but crap HT. Guess I'll be sticking to parasoy lol.
  7. I just cracked some of these open again after curing for longer and the hot throw is still crap, cold throw is amazing, what's the secret?
  8. You should be good then (with the 130) HTP are going through a change because they are using a different type of yarn (coz of supply issues). I know the new stuff is out there I've seen some on Aztec but I haven't tested it yet so I don't know how different it burns.
  9. If you don't have the most recent batches of CBL-130 then HTP worked good for me, self-trimmed nice with around size 83 at 8% load and a drop of dye in 8oz tins. Unfortunately the new stuff I got recently is unusable.
  10. If you like what you're getting out of it regardless of the cost and amount of materials then that's all that matters, I'm not trying to take anything away from you. I was just pointing out that it doesn't take a super expert level chandler to see that she is wasting a tremendous amount of money the way she makes her candles, and overloading them to death with like 15% load. Doesn't look good for the 'owner of the company' really. But regardless, good luck on your future testing, it's a pain in the arse but can be very rewarding sometimes.
  11. Man, I haven't played with that stuff in a long time. Summer shipping is a big deal for me too so I won't use it for that stuff, but if I see it in smaller amounts I might try some in the future just to play with it. I'm not buying 11lb's just to find out it's not the same and hate it. I already wasted money on that new soy pillar wax they sell and it is the worst I've ever used, so garbage.
  12. I like HTP, and they will be back just with a different yarn type, not going away forever. Well, CandleScience might not carry them anymore but everywhere else probably will.
  13. The problem you're going to have is that wax relies on you using a stupidly high fragrance load 'as is', so if you tried using a sensible amount of FO like 6% then you would need much smaller wicks because the flame would be a lot bigger, and you'd have a very hard time finding something small enough for that wax if you were going for the 'self trim' approach. You'd have to add some soy to tame it down, which would kill the hot throw even more and that's not a good idea for this wax because it already struggles with a lot of fragrance types. It's just such a waste of FO really especially the way that lady at 16/17 does it, she loads up the candles with 12% even in multi wick candles which will completely ruin the scent profile with 99% of fragrances even with a single wick, yet alone multiple, and not even using the 'general rule' 12%. She adds 12% into the total wax amount, so to other chandlers who use the 'add 1oz to 1lb = 6%' norm calculation that is way over 12%. (I know this because I watched her YT vids). Seeing her dump like 15% of those super expensive Wooden Wick Co fragrances into wax made my wallet cry. So it might be the 'gangbusters hot throw' that she raves about in her videos. But I know with any of my scents it would smell like crap with that much FO in it. That wax was never really a strong performer for me regardless, it was easy to use and poured ridiculously smooth with no effort, but the burn characteristics and performance left a lot to be desired. Plus the fact that the melt point isn't very high so it's not ideal for people shipping in hot weather either. But as always, everyone's experiences differ and people use different ingredients / formulas for different situations, this was just my experience after being locked in a room with a couple of cases of it for a few months.
  14. I can smell a huge difference with the same FO in different waxes, but from 6006 to 4627 the only difference I notice is the potency of the top notes. 6006 smells more rounded because of that bit of soy, but 4627 likes to just give you the 'take no prisoners' top end IMO. I would bet that it's probably the whole 'triple wicking' thing throwing it off more, though. To me some scents smell completely different when blasted with multiple wicks, and not always for the better lol. I'm no expert though, I only have about a year and a half experience with paraffin / parasoy blends, I'm sure some others will give their thoughts.
  15. They mean as in from the middle to the bottom, burning the bottom of the candles is where the gremlins come out and try to wreck everything, if you can get a good burn at the bottom without it being ridiculously hot then that's the winner IMO.
  16. It's definitely a possibility, I'd give it a shot. If that doesn't work then there has to be something off with the wax because 4627 is one of the biggest throwing waxes I ever used, only 2nd to CBL-129 in my opinion, that stuff literally blows my house to pieces.
  17. I'd be writing for hours if I explained everything I have discovered by testing all that. But I'll tell you right now with the recent batches of IGI paraffin type waxes if you don't add it hot you're going to have problems unless the FO just happens to be one which will throw in anything at any temp. I don't know exactly what they've been doing to the waxes lately but they are more stubborn. It's not too hot, give it a try, and if you don't get a good throw after that then I'd look into other things like how long you're stirring in the FO, and the wicks you're using. Wicking is a whole nother story, but you should rule any problems out of your process first before getting to that.
  18. If it's bouncing around I don't care, but if it's doing it to the point where the flame is almost pulsing and you can see black smoke, that's when I blow it out and rip the wick out.
  19. Sounds to me like you're not adding the FO at proper temps. To rule this out, add the FO at 190 and give the candles a few days to cure. Those 2 waxes rarely have issues throwing.
  20. I don't like this stuff now after burning a few, I get better results with 6006 and HTP wicks. It looks amazing, and the cold throw is great, but I don't like the way it burns at all, and the flames seem too jumpy and flickery in 8oz JJ's. The small CSN 7 wicks remind me of the small HTP's where you can't trim it to literally 1/4 inch at the start or you'll just get a puny flame for hours and hours until it breaks in, has to be longer. They do self-trim very well though, I'm impressed with that aspect. The hot throw is just not there for me either, if I don't get a good throw after 5 days then it's not for me. Oh well, I'm glad I gave it a shot, it's definitely an interesting wax.
  21. Decided to light a couple after 3/4 days and I can't smell anything. The wicks are burning great, I can see why most people use the CSN's with this wax, but there's no hot throw. I thought this wax didn't really need more than a couple days? The cold throw is slammin', no problems there. (I added 6% FO at 200F and poured at 200).
  22. Only CandleScience are going to be discontinuing them, you’ll still be able to get them from several other places. Only problem is they had to change the materials they’re made from, so if you already have your ‘formula’ down with HTP wicks then you gotta test all over again.
  23. I even poured a 8oz tin with palm which I heard is the biggest mistake ever, but I'll give anything a shot once lol.
