  1. She might be on the extreme end, but she is also partially correct. There is much we simply do not know. A very recent thread here:
  2. I do like the over-all look of your tags (they are pretty and have a nice balance), but they may not be practical when it comes to total sales. I know from previous discussion what they said however. Trying to sell creative products can be difficult. While you may want to stay totally true to your artistic self - if it is important to you to make money - you might have to make some compromises. If your font tends to be illegible to older people (with spending money), you might be cutting off a percent of potential buyers before you begin. "The customer is always right" and all. I know old people. I am one. We can be an impatient lot. I likely won't buy from Candle Cocoon again because their FO labels, to me, are illegible. In my earlier years, I made a lot of money doing calligraphy, so whether I can easily read something or not, might be an influence. Having also sold a lot of paper-based items over the years, as TT said above, they can get shop worn very quickly. And you can't put hanging tags in protective covers.
  3. Would the metal blade of an immersion blender be enough to affect it? I made some ultra-primitive soap years ago - before there was so much good internet info - and while fun, my soap turned rancid in a few months. I was toying with the idea of making some again. As for adulterated olive oil, yes, the problem is massive. A few years ago, Costco's extra virgin olive oil was indeed one of the few that was shown to be unadulterated.
  4. For other acronym-challenged but soap-curious readers; Sorry to hear about your soap. I assume from your distress that there is no solution to this problem?
  5. Yes.... There was another thread here about the sale. Now I can't find it. And there is no record of my post(s) to it in my profile? Twilight zone? Anyone have a link to it?
  6. 'Moniker' refers to a person's name. And, yes, it is the same name you used 'back then' because it shows you joined in 2005 with this name. Welcome back.
  7. I know nothing about these suppliers - just found them using a google image search http://www.candlesandsupplies.net/Kraft-EcoLid-72mm-per-each http://www.communitycandlesupply.com/proddetail.php?prod=KFT
  8. If it creeps you out - listen to that. You may be wrong, but sometimes your instincts are trying to tell you something important. Getting that would have creeped me out too. Too bad the gift bowl isn't worth much or you could sell it to pay for some more little FO bottles: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lucky-Charms-Cereal-Bowls-Set-Of-3-2002-/222210745135?hash=item33bccae32f:g:BHYAAOSwtnpXn90o
  9. Yes. It is the best lemon I've found. It smells more like true lemon than do the fresh fruits off my tree. Aztec has a very good lemon too (Lemon Crazy), but it's not quite as well-defined. Whatever that means. Lime FOs however, have yet to measure up.
  10. Thank you. They have a couple things I really like. Their lemon verbena, and especially their Cedar and Saffron (though I only smell the Cedar). Just love it in conifer mixes.
  11. Uh...perhaps consuming illegal substances were involved. Though last I looked, Lucky Charms were legal....
  12. Yes, I've tried the LL from Candle Cocoon, and didn't think it was anything special. I also have CS lavender, and preferred it to CCs. (a note to Candle Cocoon - please change the font on your bottles - they are illegible unless you hold them very close and know what you've ordered... and even then.... ) I got some samples from Maple Street and thought their lavenders (lavender and lavender vanilla) were both better than other lavenders I've tried. (CC, CS, Aztec, Flaming) Their plain lavender is more 'flower' than 'lavender leaf' to my nose. If I had to pick one, that would be it.
  13. Does Flaming Candle ever have sales on FOs? I need want some things from them, but could wait if they do have sales. This hobby is getting more expensive than I thought it would. Thanks for any info.
  14. If I recall, they used the photo of a cat to help sell that one. What about Sassy Cat. Or just staying with the original Sassy? That's kinda cute.
  15. I was having fun and jotting down more names. For something with cherry notes, how about Sweet Cherrity. I also like the one you mentioned - Umbrellas and Sand. Very beachy. Very summer.
  16. Maple Street and recommendations I recently got some samples and while most were pleasant, I did especially like their lavender and lavender vanilla. Still like CS's lavender better (it's more fruity or more rounded, or something), but MS's were better than most others.
  17. Wow. I'd hate to have to deal with those things. Fortunately no one I've ordered from uses them.
  18. Thanks. And sorry for the flip answer. I had to go water some plants before it got totally dark, but I felt 'inspired' and as often is the case, couldn't help myself, lol. I like the scent Love Spell, and to me it is reminiscent of apricots. So at my age... that's what I might call it. I'm not familiar with either Sex on the Beach or Butt Naked, but I do think the names are clever for a certain market. And they apparently do sell well if I've heard of them. Candle science description of Sex on the Beach: and from Flaming Candle: Hmmm, I didn't realized both were sort of fruity. Citrus sunset Sunset sensation Sunset stillness Waves on the beach High tide Surf's up Wading in the bay Exotic libation Total relaxation Tropical punch Summer stillness Evening stillness A perfect evening (which it happens to be here ) First days of summer Summer thirst Summer lust Lust for Life (van Gogh - 'Ear on the Beach') Umbrellas and sand Summer Quench Key Largo Florida Keys
  19. Thank you for the thorough explanation. Makes total sense to me. I like soy, I like paraffin... and I like them even better mixed.
  20. I'm afraid I have to admit I prefer the look of a soy blend. I love the creamy, flat look, and smooth feel of them. It does not matter to me if a candle is 100% soy. I don't know what the benefits of 100% soy are supposed to be. Are they safer or is it the 'renewable' aspect? 'Natural' vs 'synthetic'?

  22. (Hobbyist, not pro) Before switching to a conduction hotplate, I used a double boiler with various melting cans with a pinched side for pouring. Quite efficient, and certainly a money saver. My favorites were the very large cans from Costco crushed tomatoes. I now have nicer 'pour pots'. They are 2 'conduction ready' stainless steel sauce pans with very nice pouring lips that don't drip. Eventually they'll get cleaned and returned to the kitchen. In the beginning I used to melt extra wax so I'd have enough. But now with the digital scale, I only have little bits extra which I pour into small plastic containers and just wipe out the pour pot with a nice soft rag. When I have enough bits of the same color, I'll re-melt and pour Heinz57 candles.
  23. It's used as a landscaping plant here. (Rosemary). Some locals toss it in the bbq when roasting chicken. It makes a lovely, smoky scent. Perhaps, if you have some sort of fireside (burning wood) scent, you could mix it with a bit of that. Real rosemary tends to be a strong, non-frilly scent. It might go with a conifer scent, like cedar. Since it's in the broad mint family, as is Lavender, you might try mixing those two. Or perhaps with another floral like rose. Or perhaps mix some with one of those 'clean laundry' scents. That might be nice.
