  1. I like the sand idea. So far I've been using rice from a big sack. However, last year I had to throw it out as a mouse got in my garage workshop and left little gifts in it. Had to throw it out and disinfect. So now I have the rice filled box in the house and do it there. Donita's sand ideas would be cheaper and safer (mice virus wise).
  2. Love to be on that list too Pe leeeeee ze. Only waxes I have for hurricanes are IGI 1255 and IGI 1260.
  3. Bet she willl love it. Its very pretty.
  4. Beautiful work. Not a fan of the color blue in candles, but I love those:yay:
  5. As usual, a great job. They look juicy!!
  6. Yes, I have only experimented with tins. Left them in the cupboard in my garage over the winter. When I took them out to have a look this summer, there was a ring of rust around the inside. I know I cooled them before putting the lids on but I live in a climate that gets alot of rain over the winter, so I think its from condensation of some sort. By the way it happened on four different FOs. They were not strong ones.
  7. As Georgia says, with square braid I'd start with a 1/0 or 1. With flat ply I'd start with a 30. However, I find that I sometimes get excellent burns the first time and then on a marathon burn they can conk out, so be sure to do one long burn. As I said before, I'm finding that HTP wicks are working better for me with heavy or strong fragrances. Haven't tried Performa, but the local supplier keeps bugging me to.
  8. Lovely looking candles. She'll reallylike them.
  9. Not sure what happened, but darn it girl, its a beauty. I often get different results with square molds too.
  10. I sure find that different fragrances can cause a problem too. My local supplier, who sells very high quality (meaning expensive) FOs has been telling me to decrease the FO amount in pillars. Have you tried HTP or pure cotton wicks. I'm not too sure, but I don't think the majority of pillar makers use zinc wicks.
  11. The worst burn due to carelessness that I've seen was when a mom I know left a hot cup of black coffee on the end of the table. Her toddler pulled it over on her face and shoulder. Was still having plastic surgery at the age of 16 from the damage done. The candle issue does scare me though. I get so annoyed when I see people on TV using them in the bedroom particularly by the bed. It looks so romantic but I can just imagine what could happen..... and add a few drinks..... disaster!
  12. Nice work! Really like the cin buns photo!
  13. Really pretty! Love those little votives too.
  14. Wow! How'd you do that? I've seen the neon dyes at the suppliers. Is that what you used? By the way, Happy Thanksgiving!
  15. Those look very pretty. Would love to see them a little closer up:cheesy2:.
  16. Thanks for all the nice compliments. Still working on the idea. Think I may make them a little smaller though. This is a PEAKs mold and its 3x3.5. Its a little bulky. Can't imagine actually tying a beeswax bow either. This one was made in pieces and stuck together with sticky wax:cheesy2:.
  17. Have the same problem. Family can't understand that every new candle formulat and Fo needs to be tested. They do this too :rolleyes2 .
  18. I slightly warm my molds and try not to heat them too much as I know that causes pitting. Also I've found that a few of the stronger FOs sometimes appear to cause pitting (like blackberry sage). My smoothest pillars have been - slighlt warm molds and pouring at around 175-180 and tapping the mold right after pouring. You can actually see the little bubbles come to the surface. A water bath is also suggested, but I don't do it always. As for cold pours, when the wax has gone really cold, it seems to incorporate bubbles as I pour.
