  1. That's a good idea... did you keep track of how much of each that you put into your mix? Mike
  2. We have been using the CSN 9's on our 8oz. jj's as a single wick and it works great so far. We haven't noticed the jar getting to hot with that wick .... however,my 8 oz. and 16 oz. apothecary jars (which we double wick with the CSN 9's), get really hot and that I am uncomfortable with. Normally we don't get a huge flame from that particular wick. I am,however, going to test the 7's and see how those work as a single and a double wick combination. Mike
  3. Larry and Judy.... I talked to CS a few weeks ago and they didn't think that letting the palm wax sit out in the cold would be harmful to the wax. Just make sure you warm it up slowly in your house or shop before you use it. As long as there isn't any moisture getting in the wax should be fine. It can get way below zero here and they didn't think that would affect it any. But,having said that,I would call em up and ask em just to be sure. Mike
  4. That would be me I think:D I hate it when that happens. I will not do it again,I will not do it again,I will not........... Mike
  5. Thanks for asking that question Natty. It would be a good idea to ask first as that can save one from spending money which they maybe wouldn't need to spend. I guess I would have tried the samples available first....that saves money too. Having said that....I think she got some really good fo's. Those have all worked well in our palm containers. I sure love palm wax I think it's so much better than soy....at least in my experiences with both kinds of waxes. Mike
  6. you didn't have to double wick it? That is awesome in itself....I seem to have to double wick that danged size jar and I would rather not if possible. Mike
  7. Wickless candles are doable but I sure wouldn't do it with palm wax....especially in a glass jar. They can shatter the glass and create a real mess. We put on our palm container warning lables not to use them on candle warmers for that very reason. (It has happened to one of our customers and that brought an immediate decision from us to not make wickless candles with palm wax.) Mike
  8. Hi Becky, According to the wick guide on the CS site you should try the CSN 12's for that size of jar. That would be your starting point for the 2.75" diameter jar that you are using. I would try that and see how that works for your fo throw. I use the CSN 9's for our 8oz. jj's and use the same wicks for our 10oz. and 16oz. apothecary jars....those we double wick because we have not found a wick that works for those sizes of jars as a single wick....HTH! Otherwise I would try the 800 series wicks from wick-it and see how those work for you. Mike
  9. Hi Sparkette, I think if you click on the search tab here and do a search for wet spots,I think you may find lots of info. about your problem with the wax pulling away from the jars. There are also threads on tempering wax and that may help some also in keeping the wax from pulling from the jars....not sure though. Just search for tempering and you will find lots of info. on that as well....HTHS! Perhaps Vicky or Scented or Stella_1952 or Judy,USMC and other well qualified ladies will chime in and help you more than I can. Hmmmmm......I seem to have forgotten my manners....Welcome to the board! Mike
  10. We inject the same amount of fo into the bear that we use in candles. It is much faster and less clean up....but they do leak some out the bottom so we put em on a glass plate and then wrap it up in a clear plastic bag and put a bow on it and label it. Works great for us and our customers love em too, Mike
  11. If you use palm wax for your containers I recommend that you don't let them cool in the oven. I made one big mess the other morning trying to do that very thing....no more cooling in the oven. :embarasse Mike
  12. Where's that light bulb at when you need it.....like in the old Ford commercial....I have a better idea....no more jars in the oven for me.....this will be my first New Year's resolution. Mike still isn't making candles just yet. He's trying to find his way out of the dog house....maybe GPS would help:) I think I took one long break to many and dozed off for about 6 hours and guess what time of night it is now....finish cleaning time. Hmmmmm.....this is about the same time I started making candles last night. Now I will have nightmares the rest of the week:) My wife calls me a WMD now(I think that stands for "weapon of mass destruction''). Nice to see you are back Judy....how was your trip? MUDD??? I haven't officially changed my name yet but am considering that option....lol Thanks for the reminder Violet....I will try to keep that in mind....if not then you remind me again before I do that again....smiles Mike
  13. lol.....I'm a guy....who ever thinks of turning on the oven to melt the wax? I already had most of it scraped out when my wife asked me the same question....not a good day. I will never put jars of melted wax in the oven again. I lost track of how many hours it took me to clean most of that stuff out of the oven.....still have some left to clean....I believe in taking lots of breaks when something like cleaning is involved:) Mike
  14. When Mike returns from the land of the embarrassed I will pass all this really helpful advice on to him....I am sure he would really appreciate it alot:) Right now I think he has his head stuck in the oven mumbling something about cleaning it and not using it again to make candles in. Mike....oops.....this really isn't me....please disregard that name for now.
  15. Well, you see Violet,it was really late and really easy for me to do. I am such a klutz sometimes. I shouldn't have been trying to make candles in the middle of the night and I just set the jar on the oven rack when it just tipped over......all over the inside of the oven. I should just have stuck to my old way and put em on a wire rack and let em cool at room temp.( I was making my first GlassGlo containers) The ones I did get made really do look nice and my oven smells really good. Just remind me to never, never, never put my jars in the oven to cool. Mike
  16. lol.....I even do the laundry and the vaccuming(or however that is spelled). I do clean up my messes though and this one was a good one.....it sure smells good in here....thanks for the fun post Judy:) Ya know.....I never have used a box before for cooling my jars....I just put em on a wire rack at room temp. and usually they come out alright.....I may try that though.....hmmmmm....big box....big box.....uh,how big Judy? Mike P.S. I don't do windows or the dishes though:)
  17. I don't think it's such a wise idea for me to cool palm wax containers in my oven. Nope,no fire issue, but,I'm still cleaning and have been for about 1 1/2 hours trying to get all that spilled wax cleaned up. Sure smells good though....nothing like hot baked apple pie smell coming from the oven....to bad it's not the real deal though.....what a bummer! From now on my candles will cool on the wire racks that I bought just to cool candles on. I have no doubt learned a valuable lesson indeed:embarasse :embarasse :embarasse Mike....not my real name at the moment!
  18. Does one weigh in ounces, grams, kilograms or milliliters....which is most accurate? What conversion tabels do you all use? Just curious...Does palm wax, when melted, create more liquid wax as does paraffin and soy wax? If so,how much more? This would help us all out(especially me:) ) to be more accurate when we pour and could leave us with just enough extra to top off any container if needed. Mike
  19. I just called them also and they told me that it takes about a week to get them to you. How long ago did you order the samples? Their prices are really good by the 1000. Way less than most candle suppliers....somtimes half the price. Mike
  20. Rebecca....wick-it sells their wicks by the 1.000. You can order samples from them and just pay the shipping.....or you can order 10,000 of em:) Mike
  21. According to one melter manufacturer you don't need to pre-heat jars because when using their machine it heats the jars up as you pour.Hmmmmm, wouldn't that do the same thing if we poured into our jars.....after all,it is the same temp. setting as we would use if we used their machine....wouldn't it? Just wondering outloud. Mike
  22. I am not a professional photographer but, your photos look just fine to me as well???? Mike
