  1. I have been testing palm wax candles for some time now and without any sooting until today....darn! I noticed my candle was really blowing in the non breeze we have and dancing back and forth like mad. I blew it out and noticed a big black round spot on the inside of my jar(8 oz. jj) about 1 1/2" in diameter. Does this happen much with palm wax after burning about 3/4's of the wax in the jar? My drawing board is getting really full anymore:sad2: Mike
  2. It's already been said but it deserves another....Wow! That is huge! You did well just to get it out of the mold. I really like the way it looks though....it has a beauty all its own. Good job Mr.Chips! Mike
  3. If you use palm wax 5 drops of burgundy ought to be really good. I put in 6 drops ppw for our black cherry fo and it is a wonderful burgundy color. Mike
  4. Here is a link that might help you with info. about palm wax from candlewic: http://www.letsmakecandles.com/Info_Palm_Wax_803.asp HTH! Mike
  5. Type of soy.....Millinium blend from Enchanted Lites Additives.....Blended by the manufacturer and they aren't telling:sad2: Dyes.....none Preferred wick.....HTP Pouring temp......115 degrees What you do to prevent frosting....this has not been an issue so far. What you do to prevent rought tops....nothing What do you do to prevent wet spots....bigger labels....I'm tired of pulling out my hair:) Mike
  6. Bitter Creek North in Wisconsin sells palm wax as does Candle Science in North Carolina,Lone Star in Texas,Candlewick in Pennsylvania.....just to name a few....HTH! Mike
  7. wouldn't it just be easier to answer a question instead of knocking someone down for whatever reason. If you don't want to answer the question then don't and stay out of the thread. What difference does it make to how many times a question is asked by someone? Are we not here to learn and learning by asking is certainly one of the best ways to do it. Like the saying goes....if you can't say something nice then don't say it....works for lots of us. Mike
  8. Correction to my last post....they get their palm wax from Indonesia not Malaysia.....close but no cigar! Mike
  9. CS should have their Glass Glow and some of their other palm waxes in by tomorrow I was told. Mike
  10. Thanks for that info. Vicky. I was kind of wondering about the prices of their melters too. I definately want to save my pennies for their Mark VII machine. What do you think of that machine besides being a bit pricey? What are the dimensions for the melters you have from coogar? Maybe someone else has these machines too and can comment on how they like them....they seem to be really good. Mike
  11. Here is some of our best sellers Jacqui: 1. Sweet Pea....Natures Garden....This one is our number 1 year round best seller 2. Black Cherry.....Candle Science.....number 3 yrbs 3. Dreamsicle....Bitter Creek North....this is our number 2 but black cherry is getting closer....yrbs 4. Blueberry Patch... Bitter Creek North....just started using and it is picking up really fast now....we think this one is a really good one with lots of potential. 5. Hot Baked Apple Pie....Natures Garden....always a favorite with everyone and is a very good seller. 6. Rose......Candle Science....we just started this one as well and it has been getting lots of attention. 7. Cinnamon Buns.....either Candle Science or BCN.....yummy! yrbs 8. China Rain.....Natures Garden....bs during the spring and summer mostly 9. Fresh Linen....Natures Garden....wonderfully fresh scent and popular year round. 10. Lilac.....either Candle Science/Natures Garden or BCN....they are all good fo's......sells really well in the spring and early summer months really well. As you can see,I didn't list them in order 1-10....oh well...they all sell really well and that's what matters I guess. Mike
  12. My understanding is that all their palm wax comes directly from Malaysia(I think that is where it comes from). I couldn't say if theirs is better than anyone elses but it is a good quality wax so far as I can tell. I like it and so do others obviously or they wouldn't be sold out so often. I am sure that other companies have really good quality palm wax as well as does CS. I'm sure it takes awhile to get their wax because of the distance involved. I've seen other sites that carry palm wax also state how good for the environment their wax is....which is a good thing. Mike P.S. Guess I can't tell you if it's IGI wax or not.....but it could be????
  13. Candle science has the 8 oz. jelly jars for 3.99 per case (lids are extra) and the shipping is about the same as it is from Filmore Containers. Filmore's 8 oz. jelly jars for 10 cases (120 jars) is 4.20 per case (lids are exrtra). The shipping is 42.54 for Candle Science and 42.30 for Filmore's....just a personal preference I guess. Mike
  14. Thanks top....I thought they looked like quality made units but I have never really looked into it before so I didn't know for sure how good they were. I also trust CS and don't think they would intentionally sell junk to their customers. Is the price about right for those kinds of melters or are they a bit pricey? Mike
  15. Has anyone purchased any of the two melters that CS is now offering? If so,what opinions do you have of it so far? Is it worth the price they are asking? How long does it take to melt the wax in these melters? Are they cool to the touch when operational? Mike
  16. If you are shy like me you go directly to your potential customer and face em face to face. Helps to overcome the jitters. However,if you stutter and stammer around and they run you in circles, you will have a book of info. at hand on how best to maybe approach others later. You will have done your homework prior to meeting with them so that you can more easily visit with the buyer and try to close the deal more efficiantly. If that doesn't work and you have lots of money you don't know what to do with you can hire someone with the skills you need and have them do it for your company.....HTH! Mike
  17. Hi schmoopie, I so totally agree with this post of yours....if you read my recent thread on wickless candle safety....tins are more than likely the best way to make a safe wickless candle. Do you make wickless palm candles....I made one and it blew up on a friend of mine....no more glass wickless for palm wax especially. Soy I don't think I would have a problem with that near as much as I do with palm wax....anyways all my wickless ones from now on are in tins and not in glass.....thanks for the post. Mike
  18. Thanks Vicky for your explanation and that is what I'm leaning towards as I talk to my friend about what happened. Because the first time he melted it he said that once the melted wax had breached the surface(through a small hole in the wax)that it shot out of the jar like a volcano...(his description not mine). Mike
  19. Awww,it's ok kinipela....you are right though, candle tins aren't the prettiest things around but we as candle makers can make them more attractive...unless you are me and have very little creativeness. But tins sure beat trying to make wickless candles out of paper or glass....I believe now that it's not safe at all.....go tins go! And you are right again....safety first not second or third....safety first. Mike
  20. I believe it kinipela....I know Mia Bellas doesn't recommend it for their candles and that is no doubt the reason why. Mike
  21. I agree with you too Vicky....it won't happen again as we have decided not to make them in jars anymore....I like your idea of using tins....much better Idea....where's that light bulb at when you need it. I will test with some tins and see how that works. Mike
  22. I use csn 9's double wicked in my 16 oz. apothecary jars and yes the glass does get very hot but they do burn much cleaner and much better than when I tried to use a csn 16 single wick. That one still might acutally work....I will be trying it again this week. Never try to pick up a candle that is lit as it does get a trifle warm to the touch. Mike
  23. Has anyone out in candle land ever made a wickless palm wax candle in a 10 oz. apothecary jar(or anyother jar for that matter)? If you have, did you ever have any trouble with it.....like having the jar explode on you? A friend of mine did this last week. He wanted me to make one for his gf and so I did. I did warn him that he would in effect be testing this for me as I have never made a wickless palm wax candle before and did not know how it would do on a candle warmer. Now I know! Never had one made of soy do that so I am wondering if a wickless palm candle should even be attempted or not or is this an isolated incident??? Please help....it could happen to you! Mike
  24. I haven't tried that one yet either but two other companies make a very good one and they are Enchanted Lites and BCN (theirs is called dreamsicle and it is darn good) but so is EL's orange vanilla.....HTHS! Mike
  25. CSN wicks are supposedly designed for palm wax specifically as palm wax is very acidic. These wicks were designed from the ground up by Wedo of Germany to address that issue in palm wax...doesn't mean it won't work in soy but should work in palm wax better I would think. Contact CS and ask them why your wick could be performing the way it does. I use the csn 9's for the 8 oz. jj and for double wicking my 16 oz. apothecary jars and they work, so far, really good that way. I have tried the csn 16 for my 16 oz. jar as a single wick method but have not been very successful with that yet...maybe if I can solve my wick centering problem that wick will work well too.....I hate to test, test, test but it is what I must do to see what works. The csn 12's also work really good in the jj. Again, call CS and see what they can tell you about your torching wick. Mike
