  1. Long hair....but we don't dip ours in wax. However, they do smell good:) Mike
  2. Thanks for the vote of confidence Ring of Fire. Like I said before it's just an idea and only an idea. My dad was in sales for over 40 years and he used to always tell us that those that think they can,can and those that think they can't are probably right. It's six of one and half a dozen of another really at this point. I don't feel bad for being told it won't work. Nobody knows for sure because it hasn't been accomplished yet. Nobody is really an upscale snob. They are,I am sure, just expressing their honest opinon. But Judy is correct....you need to find someone to run things and you need to get the folks to invest their hard earned money and that is tough to let go of sometimes. Certainly there would obstacles to overcome in doing something like this, but obstacles aren't permanent barriers and are meant to be overcome if confronted properly. I would guess that large companies started off with similar fears and concerns and learned to overcome those in order to grow their business to a large size and probably deal with issues every day that could threaten their business. Mike
  3. The CSN wicks are desinged specifically for palm wax because of the high acid content in palm wax. What size of containers are you using? I use the 10oz. and 16oz. apothecary style jars which are 4" wide at its widest point so I use the CSN 9's and double wick the jars and that works really well so far with all colors and fo's that we have tried. We use no more than 1oz. ppw. and that has been very adequate so far. If I can use the CSN 16 as a single wick and make it work that is what I would preferr. However, that has not worked out....could be because I am just a bit off center with my wick....what a bummer. My wax of choice now is the CS frosted palm, but I do have some CS GG palm and will be testing that as well very soon. I'm not sure about the other waxes you described as we are slowly moving away from soy and using the palm instead. Paraffin testing is in the near future as well.....I think it gets somewhat of a bum rap but it really is a matter of choice so we will just keep on testing lots of different waxes and blends to see what is best. Mike
  4. Thanks for the positive note Lady. I certainly understand the concerns, hopes and dreams of all entrapraneurs....me included. I'm certainly not suggesting that all members do this....it is just an idea. I have never doubted that this idea would be in the minority of opinions...but that's ok too. But just think for a minute....larger company usually means better buying power, better buying power usually means you can pass some savings on to your customers and customers really like a good value for what they are buying. Increased market share generally goes with a bigger company and you spread the financial risk around so that more people can afford to partake in the business. But,like I said....it's only an idea and it's not for everyone to get involved in. There is certainly going to be some differnces of opinion and conflict....but that's not all bad either as ideas come out and get discussed and eventually bad ideas get weeded out and the better ideas will pass muster.....Hope your day is a good one Lady I kind of like the name you suggested too....smiles Mike :tiptoe:
  5. Thanks for the responses...it was just a fun post and I had thought of all that before I posted, but bigger things than this idea have come about when like minded people decided that an idea was viable and doable and then took the necessary action to make it happen. I realize that not everyone here would want to do that and that is ok....but there is lots of talent here. Could it happen? Absolutely! Is it something to consider? Why not? Mike
  6. You know,if we all banded together and put our combined knowlege and resourses to good use,we could establish one rather large candle making company....what a thought....has some possiblilities don't you think?
  7. Will Saran Wrap work for what you need? It is a cling type wrap....we call it stretch wrap at work....pretty much the same thing and it clings very well. I don't think this will affect the scent at all....but I've been wrong before. Just wrap tightly and seal with a heat gun(very briefly of course). That should work well I would think.....HTHS Mike
  8. I have never worked with paraffin but I think it has a much better hot throw than does soy.I like the natural aspects of soy and other veggie waxes but people like a scented candle to be aromatic to the end of the jar and I don't think soy does a very good job of producing a really good hot throw...at least not in the waxes I have tested. So,I started testing palm wax and I am very pleased with that.I use less fo's and still get a much better hot throw with that than I ever did using soy wax.So far, palm wax,for us anyway,is a winner and we will be testing some paraffin waxes also in the near future as well. Mike
  9. If you really are thinking of switching....I would consider trying Candle Science....their customer service is top notch(very much world class), and should be because the candle and candle supply business is very competitve and it would be for that reason alone that their customer service should be world class, if it's not I'd make the switch....jmo Wonder how long they will remain in business with that kind of customer service???? Mike
  10. I do agree with Stella kw.....if I can't get a decent throw with 1oz. ppw of fo then I opt for a different fo. Since I started testing palm wax, I have always, it seems to get a fairly decent throw with 1oz. ppw. and I also use the CSN 9's double wicking (so far) my apothecary jars. So far so good! Sometimes, depending on the scent,I only use 1/2oz.ppw and still get some fairly good results....keep on testing....boy I hate hearing that but it is so true. Mike
  11. I think that CS may have one of the best cinnamon buns fo...BCN also has a very good one.....I love that CS .99 sample sale Mike
  12. Are you using palm wax kw? If not the choice of wicks probably should be different. CSN wicks from CS were designed specifically for palm waxes as palm wax has a high acid content for which the CSN wicks were designed for from the ground up. HTHS Mike
  13. I think all the advice you have been given is excellent....but,if none of that works for you....switch to my favorite (now my favorite anyway)palm wax. You can get it from several candle supply companies. So far I have not had any wet spots since switching over to mostly palm wax container candles...I still get em in my soy candles though....bummer! Mike
  14. Hi waxflower, I don't know about English Garden,Gardenia,Honeysuckle Jasmine or Plumeria(but I have ordered some samples). Golden Rose may be ok for some but I didn't like it near as much as I liked Love Spell. Not much help otherwise but it's all I can do on those particular ones. I haven't tried any of their other florals but I bet Sweet Pea would be very good even though it's has only a two leaf rating. I can tell you that their Black Cherry,Red Hot Cinnamon,Cinnamon Buns,Scotch Pine,Holly Berry,Rain Water,Clean Cotton,Moon Lake Musk,Mulberry,Cranberry Marmalade and Wildberry Mousse are all pretty good....HTH!! Mike
  15. CS has their 1oz. sample FO's on sale for only .99. Might be a good time to try them out if you haven't already. They are generally very good FO's. Just an FYI for those who may want to try. Mike
  16. The lowest price I have seen so far is from http://www.wickit.net they will send you samples if you ask for them....just pay the freight. However, when you order them they are in quantities of 1000 per wick size but they are very inexpensive. Mike
  17. I've not ordered anything from MoonGlow. However,I do use the Millenium wax and I buy it direct from Enchanted Lites along with the soy drops. So far I am not fond of soy wax. Mike
  18. Mine I hold about one inch from the melted wax or whatever surface I want to measure the temperature of. I also have a probe that I can use to insert into the melted wax to get the tempreature that way as well.....HTH Mike
  19. Nice pictures in the gallery of your candle....it is a very beautiful candle jakalex. I noticed that this one is in a different style of jar and double wicked. Are you using the csn wicks for that one? Mike
  20. I think you are probably right about your opinion and I respect it. I haven't tried it just yet but hope to soon. I do use the apothecary jars so that may make some difference?? I heated my jars to 140 on the advice of the folks at CS but that was with the frosted palm. So far I have an excellent hot throw with the frosted palm....certainly much better than with soy wax. Mike
  21. I like my IRK infrared gun thermometer....it works great! I got mine from: http://www.thermoworks.com/products/ir/index.html?gclid=CMX33rrjv4wCFQlQWAod_HLZaw Thermoworks has lots of different ones to choose from and periodically they have some good sales. Mike
  22. Wonder what would happen if you pre-heated your jars to 140 degrees instead of 125? I pre-heat mine to about that with the CS frosted palm and it turns out really well....just a thought??? Mike
  23. You can find this fo at the following places: Enchanted Lites,Lone Star Candle Supply,Wellington Fragrances and Bittercreek North....HTH! Mike
  24. I live in Nebraska and CS is just a little bit less expensive with their UPS ground rates than is Peaks. Hmmmmm.......something isn't quite right there. It must cost more to ship up and down the mountainsides to the plains than it is to ship from the East Coast to the plains???? I wished they could explain why that is. Colorado is much closer to Nebraska than is North Carolina??? Mike
