PattyZB
I'm having trouble finding lye again. I'm going to stop at the Tractor Supply Store I found it at last time. It's out of the way (45 minutes away), but I'll be in the area tomorrow so it's not too bad. I'm curious as to where most people get theirs from. Do you find it online? Where's the best place? Do you find it in a local store? I've checked ALL of my local Home Depots and Lowes - nada.
simplyorganic
I personally like getting mines from The Lye Guy..... great prices and he ships super fast. Been buying from him since last year and have not been disappointed yet.https://www.thelyeguy.com/store/store.php
dirtybirdsoaps
I'll have to try them because for the past several years I've been buying from AAA and after the last time and all the problems I had along with lack of communication I will never shop there again! AND he had a special - buy 5 canisters get 1 free!
Billie
Many buy from him. He is a reputable dealer.
Jeana
If you guys skip the middle man you can get your lye so much cheaper. Just go to a chemical supply place in your area. I have one I go to that sells 50lb for about $68. That's $1.36 for a lb. I didn't pay shipping or tax. It doesn't seem like you'll use that much but you'd be surprised how fast it goes. PattyZB
I didn't even think to go to an actual supply place...I guess I can check the phone book? I just couldn't believe how much cheaper The Lye Guy is and he's got a good reputation! Very cool.
tootie04
I was using AAA but the lye guy is cheaper....does he charge HAZMAT fees in shipping?? I hope to find a local source soon.
soycrazy
I like AAA too, but found my local hardware store carries it now which is cheaper. Hopefully I can get a discount
Scented
I like the containers from AAA, but we're going away from the company too. Apparently we can get it almost in our backyard, but at 50# at a time, so we're going that way.

leisa2003
I was curious,...do some of you not have a Lowe's or Menards? Thats where I get mine locally.
jbren
I was curious,...do some of you not have a Lowe's or Menards? Thats where I get mine locally.Even with shipping, it's more cost effective to buy it online than in those small containers at Lowes...if your Lowes sells it. I've never had the desire to try that Rooto brand or whatever it is, so I'm not even sure if my Lowes carries it.

And it was more exspensive in those little containers.
Meridith
Red Devil? How long ago was that? Red Devil quit making lye a couple years ago.
SoapPoopette
In a pinch I use ROOTO brand from Ace Hardware. It does work well but I mainly get my lye online because it is cheaper; about $10 cheaper, even with the shipping cost.SoapPoopette:cool2:
leisa2003
Red Devil? How long ago was that? Red Devil quit making lye a couple years ago.Well you can tell I haven't used this stuff yet. It is the Rooto (sp?)stuff.
PattyZB
I checked every local Lowe's and Home Depot - nothing. Thankfully I found someone willing to share their supply.
chuck_35550
The last 50 pound bag I bought was just too much hassle and headache to divide it up and store it. I like the containers from AAA and they were no problem. I guess if I had plenty of containers to store all the lye in I'd go for the big bags. Rae
I buy mine from the lye guy and get it real quick. We talked to our Lowe's way back and was told they are not allowed to sell it any more because it is used to make meth. I bought one large container somewhere else and it was a pain to work with. I like the canisters that the lye guy uses.
