    My First Time

Yay! Hope they turn out well! let us know how the testing goes!!
  2. I'd be interested in others opinions too. I just tested Red Hot Cinnamon from CS (in a melt), and it was light- a little disappointing, as I had hoped for a stronger HT...

    My First Time

I found just popping it into the freezer for a few minutes works- it pops right out. I'm saving my leftover wax to make firestarters (yes, in all my free time!, but I hate to have it go to waste). I've been using Suzy's suggestion of the ecosoya PB/excel blend- so far testing has been very good, love it! I've been pouring into portion cups, not using dye, just keeping them white. I just poured a bunch over the holiday, so now have to wait for them to cure (the hard part!). Good luck on your testing, let us know how it goes! I also had all those same questions you did, as I had not made melts, and I haven't ever bought one of the Sc**tsy melts or warmers- so I haven't had experience with them either. Have fun!
  4. I just tested the crushed strawberries and rhubarb- very, very strong! I'm going to have to use less, it was too overpowering in the melt I had going in a bathroom. Her oils are strong. Great customer services. She often will send me an email with the recommended percentages for each fo I ordered (some take 3%, some 4% and some 5%)- also good info on her website and forum.
  5. I second the above- research here on the forum- best way to learn about making candles/tarts and what works well. Keep in mind that everyone has their favorite and what works for them. I took some time and wrote down all the wax combinations I could find for melts- had over 20 combinations! So don't be overwhelmed. You may want to consider starting with a kit. Look at the various websites (Peak, Candle Science, Natures Garden, AH, etc)- many have kits available- that may give you a starting point. I started with a container candle kit from Peaks which was a wonderful way to be introduced to this addicting hobby! The kit comes with all the tools you need to get started which is nice, and usually at a lower price than if you buy it all separately. Most of all, have fun and enjoy! There are so many wonderful people on this forum too that give great advice too- welcome to the forum!
  6. you'll love the CC fo's- Lyschell is great at recommending the % to use for each, as you won't need as much depending on the fo's. Good luck!!
  7. Thanks for the reminder of hotel costes- I got it a few months ago and I've remember seeing good reviews! Ok, now just need to find the time to mix and pour....
  8. OOOOHHH- you INCLUDE the jar with your candles, I've been doing it wrong.... (just have to chuckle)
  9. Maybe just Sweet Lilac Garden? so many good suggestions here JBN! You're getting lots of help! good luck- sounds like a wonderful scent!
  10. Does mixing the 3022 with another wax like the mottling wax or J50 help with the CT and HT?
  11. Yay- good for you! Hope the rest of your testing goes well! I've been having good luck with melts using Ecosoya PB/Excel mix and with feather palm so far- but want to try the 3022 in melts too. Good luck and keep us posted!!
  12. Ok JAJC- another company I haven't ordered from! may have to check them out (love all the enablers on this forum!!) May have to order a couple and put them in the stocking for x-mas (my way of justifying ordering more fo's!!- Santa knows all, right?) hope you get some recs for some other good ones from this company to help you out! I think those 3 sound wonderful, but I love all those bakery scents!!
  13. I know, those budgets get in a way of a lot of things, don't they?
  14. Oh no! Not another company for fo's! (I may have to check them out... just a look/see... right?
  15. So glad your slump has ended- hope your have good luck with your testing! I agree, there are so many helpful people on this forum that give wonderful advice and inspiration- thanks to all of you! This is been a fun hobby to have, and it's nice to have a place to bounce off ideas and get questions answered. (btw, JBN we want to see some pics of the Nutcracker- good luck to you with those performances!)
  16. I got myself going last weekend and made about 25 small batches of melts, brittle and portion cups- my motivation was trying out some of the fo's I've had and just haven't used yet. Once I got on a roll, it was really fun! I have Christmas Spice (SC) melting now- which is wonderful, strong, and filling the first level of the house! Getting me in the mood for the holidays! (now I just need to recruit some people to help me test!) Have fun justajesuschick- let us know how your pouring goes!!
  17. Do you mix anything with your feather palm? I just tried mixing feather palm and 3022 60/40 into portion cups, and the tops got a little bumpy looking. I haven't tried just feather palm by itself yet....
  18. I'm pouring some wax brittle, (just got my energy up to get all the supplies out!!), mixing up ecosoya PB/excel and 3022/4625- trying some new scents too- hope they turn out! The bulb in my wax melter went out, so got sidetracked trying to find a replacement bulb yesterday- ah the joys of testing!!
  19. where can I find details of the sale at Aztec? (like I really need more fo's right now:)
  20. Ok, please excuse the silly question, but you whip the wax- I'm assuming that is when it is warm, still liquid, right? (sorry, I'm still a newbie at this stuff!!)
  21. What wicks are you using with this wax? I'm going to try some melts, and possibly pour in some tins this weekend (after the turkey day rush!)
  22. That's what I was thinking too- I'll play around with some combinations (just have to find some time....somehow that day job gets in the way of my hobbies!!! sigh )
  23. Has anyone tried the 3022 by itself for melts? Will that work? I finally got around to cutting mine up and put in plastic bags to store- maybe try mixing some tomorrow! I'm eager to try some new waxes and fo's too!
