  1. Hands down, we set out Love Spell aroma beads at the end of the table closest to the customers. This ALWAYS brings people! Many people say they can smell it from many many booths away. I personally HATE LS, but, it sells soo well. I have not been to show that allowed a candle to be lit, and I generally do not want to have any melts melting because I want people to be able to smell whatever scents they choose. It just so happens that the aroma beads get the wind draft down the aisles...
  2. I have Intuit because I had a Blackberry, but now that I have the iphone I am looking to Square. I love how Intuit allows me to select items from a list and lists the items and amount for tax separately. Although Intuit is more well known, I am looking at what the Square would offer that Intuit does not...?
  3. there was some info previously about what is ok to melt/burn... anyone have any of that info?
  4. Congrats! Keep in mind that many businesses will, due to the economy, will offer consignment. They want the opportunity to have their product out there... Kudos to you for sticking to your guns on no consigning! If the trial case gets your foot in the door, then it was worth it. I say as long as you have a signed contract, the net 30 is fine, assuming that they are an established business. 30 days is common in the business world.
  5. IMO, even though a venue is not craft specific, an audience is an audience. I would go for a larger crowd over a smaller crowd anyday. I agree that renaming your scents would be a good idea.
  6. Not sure if the OP got her answers... I am a licensed ins agent, and it is very important to read your policies and call your agent for anything you do not understand! If you had coverage on the date of the incident, you are able to to report a claim... The length of time between the occurance and the filing of the claim (and the length of time between the policy cancellation and the incident) are specified in your contract. This varies based on policy type, type of claim, state, etc... Ask your agent for a timeframe in which you can file a claim. Let us assume that your coverage is not applicable; if the policy will not pay out, then the next thing would be how your business was set up. Was it a corporation that dissolved? Was it kept as a dba? This will determine who if anyone is responsible. Unfortunately, you cannot prevent someone from suing you, but you may not be found liable... This would be an excellent question for an attorney or an accountant. HTH
  7. I had GoPayment with my Blackberry, but now that I have an iphone, I am looking into Square. However, I think Intuit is more well known.
  8. Like the majority, the bulk of my sales are cash- people bring cash to craft fairs. However, my credit card sales tend to be higher dollar amounts. Some people do not want to spend all their cash at just one vendor, so when they find out I take credit, they are more likely to add things to their order. I have accepted personal checks in the past, but for the most part, do not like taking them. Many people understand that checks are a risk and not many carry them around anymore.
  9. You should try pouring at a cooler temp.- this is the normal shrinkage. It seems like a little dip because each cube is separate. When I started pouring cooler and my clamshell had little to no dip, I found out that I actually liked the dip. Each cube seems to have personality... HTH
  10. Just Scent sells some in bead form. I use 4794, and keep it in the box, just smash at it with a large hammer. Breaks into perfect sized pieces. I can get big blocks, little blocks, teeny shims... whatever I need.
  11. The issue that many have with this, is the fact that you asked people what they would like, yet do not seem to know the difference, or how it affects a finished product. Also, did you advise these people that a EO candle would be much more expensive/not available in all the scents they want? I bet this would change some of their answers. Again, you worry about what people would like to see if you sell, but how credible are these answers if you do not know how it would affect your bottom line? How can you even ask that question of people when you have no idea what goes into making a candle>? You should speak with your dr/ob gyn about if it is safe for you to be around undiluted FO/EO... Some scents have definetly given me headaches (hello Citronella, I am talking to you!!), and it may be harmful for you and the baby. Lastly, you had mentioned, "I plan to use EO's instead." ... without learning about the qualities/ pros/cons of FO vs EO, how can you make that plan? They each perform very differently! As expensive as candle making is, EO candles are muchhhhh more expensive. Realistically I have invested thousands of dollars before I was ready to sell, but I have never considered using EO for selling primarily just due to the cost. Not cost effective. With that being said, good luck, it is a frustrating but fun hobby.
  12. This is from their listing: "50+ Scents to choose from", this to me is pretty clear. There is a drop down stating the sizes and prices of each. You thought you were getting 50 bottles that were 4 oz each? ? For a few bucks? PLUS free shipping? I would have cancelled your order as well if you misread my description and threatened with a neutral rating, then stated that you may buy more if you like my product... it is simply not worth dealing with difficult customers anymore. I know a local chandler who frequently orders from them and is absolutely pleased with their service, prices and scents.
  13. Enough soy vs. paraffin.... back to the original idea of this thread... while I would not expect a retail YC employee to know the difference between wax types, I feel they should not be stating things that they do not know to be true... unless, they really do cook the wax for hours to make it smooth! Some Y candles do burn nicely, with no sooting or smoking. As a consumer, I never even thought twice about how the candles burned, just that they smelled great.
  14. Keep in mind that laws and requirements vary by state, and sometimes city/county. Make sure you are in compliance with local ordinances. Different states can have very different laws! Agree with Stella that a good attorney/accountant would be beneficial when considering starting any business.
  15. HAHA I laughed when I saw this thread! Why would anyone waste rice and beans?! Growing up that was such a staple food for me!
  16. Looking for a dupe of Yank** Be Thankful... Anyone have any ideas?
  17. What did you use to get the candy canes? They look awesome!!
  18. OOh I like the idea of the crumbles being used for wickless....
  19. I see a lot of toppers sold with the idea that it helps distribute the oxygen better... is this all propaganda? I thought they were just for looks...?
  20. IMO, the school has no idea of what your expenses are, so unless you discussed the actual profits per candle, they were not properly informed of what they would be making. Most fundraisers are not 50%, unless they are mass produced items. However, some increase the sale price for additional profits. Most people purchase fundraiser items not for the great deal, but to support the cause...
