  1. Looks like I have some testing, testing, testing and more testing to do!
  2. So, I bought a used Scentsy warmer on ebay, the cheapest I could find. I think it is a combination of excellent marketing and customers' ignorance how else would people pay these outrageous prices. By the way I just love the Made in China on their web site.
  3. In all my years of making clamshell tart melts I never made layered ones. I want to try making a two layers clamshell tart melts. How long should I wait between layers? Any good scent combo?
  4. I guess I am going to get a Scentsy warmer!
  5. What is the big deal with Scentsy warmers? A potential customer asked me if my tart melts would work in her Scentsy warmers. I have ever tested my tart melts in a Scentsy warmer but I really do not see why it wouldn't work.
  6. All major yarns have Websites http://www.redheart.com/yarn under learn. They also have videos on YouTube.
  7. When I was making candles, I put CO in my 464. For me it was more a question of fo than anything else. Overall I had the best results with NG's fo.
  8. Etsy or E-bay both markets are saturated on Etsy a search for tart melts will give you 8,000 + results...good luck.
  9. I don't know about PA but Indie beauty offers insurance to candle makers and now they added insurance for people who make jams and all that good stuff.
  10. I would not have told her about the insurance part. But I would get my products out of there asap, I would not want customers to confuse my candles with hers when they blow up in their faces. For the rest you got to tell yourself it is not personal it is just business, she tought she could make a bigger profit by making her own candles. She'll either stop in a few months when people complain that her candles are not that great or she'll go after your other accounts.
  11. Zinc is an old one but for candles, paraben is a big one right now for b&b and BPA sure if you are going to eat the tart melts but I am not so sure that clamshells are BPA free.
  12. If I remember from when I was on e-Bay you pay for every item you list and they take a % off your sale. You can also have a store with a basic monthly fee. e-Bay has a better shipping format. Etsy charges a listing fee and a % on every sale. All these sites start out great but become greedy after a while. I am still with Etsy and right now they take 10% of my earnings. No need to say I am working on my own web site right now. What I do not like with these feedback based sites is that buyers have more right than sellers and you are pretty much at the mercy of the buyers...no matter what you are always wrong! Also the competition is fierce and the prices are a race to the bottom. Do a search on Etsy for the products you sell and that will give you an idea. If you expect to build a customer base from Etsy or e-Bay you will be disappointed.
  13. With friends like that who need enemies...I would take my candles out of there, I think it is only a matter of time until she stops getting your products. Ok, I had no read the part where she was boxing up your stuff...be professional and wish her well don't show that you are upset.
  14. I guess I will have to try Purple Cow...
  15. Any recommendations for a good grape fo something sweet?
  16. I guess the states are not waiting for the feds to pass the Safe Cosmetic bill...I wonder if working out of your kitchen will pass inspection?
  17. I would contact their web site provider. In the future you can watermark or add your banner to your pictures and use a html code to block right click/copy function.
  18. So much for less regulations that are "stifling small business"...
  19. Every base has a recommended % of fragrance you can add, add too much and it will change the consistency of the product. Now every fragrance oil also has a recommended % you can use, it varies depending of the application it could be 1% for lotion and 3% for soap.
  20. Sorry, but get used to it the more successful you are the more people will want to ride your coattail. Don't waste your money on a C&D letter because a C&D letter is only good if you really intend to sue someone and then you have to prove that this person is taking business away from you, and it gets more complicated if you don't live in the same state. Just ignore these people never stay in busines for very long.
  21. Anyone use Shoppe Pro for their web site?
  22. Ozzy did too much drugs when he was younger...at least he has an excuse.
  23. I have Peak's Sugar Cookies, I don't think I have their Birthday Cake...I guess I will have to buy more FO!
  24. Who has the best cake or cupcake fo for mixing? This is for B&B so the HT is not important.
  25. This "candle making thing" is a lot of hard work and it takes a lot of time. You just don't whip up a great candle, it takes a lot of testing and getting set up is expensive. And when you get there it's even more work, customers want their orders fast and the more money you make the more time you spend working. Part-time is more a hobby than a really successful business.
