  1. Toilet paper must be over in my house!!! LOL.....it's a pet peeve of mine! I notice everyone has their preferences....it's something I take note of when using someones facilities....isn't that pathetic of me?
  2. for cold process batches of soap, you have to use sodium hydroxide. there is potassium hydroxide, but that is for making liquid soap, not cold process or hot process....just wanted to throw that out there. I get my lye at True Value....they have the small bottle of rooto brand. it's 100 percent lye. you can buy lye online....for instance, the lye guy....but that's alot of lye if you are just starting out. I buy lye almost every time I go to the True Value...he only keeps 1 bottle on the shelf at a time ( apparently meth makers use it in their manufacturing of meth...nasty huh? lol) so when I see it, I buy it.
  3. I figured heating your pour pot would help with the cloudiness. I have found that if my house is cold, my fo is cold it will cool down my wax and turn cloudy in the pour pot when I add the fo. I have even returned my pot to the double boiler after adding fo and stir a bit.
  4. Hi Pennie, thanks! I have not gotten around to being able to try this wax yet. The holidays, and then I got hit with bronchitis which I am still recovering from. Thanks for the info
  5. That sound like your pour pot is cold...which is cooling down the wax after you add it from your presto. How hot is the wax in your presto? I noticed when I used to use my presto the same thing would happen. I stopped using it, mainly because I am just a hobbyist and it's just easier for me to just do the double boiler in my kitchen. I would try keeping your pour pots warm in the oven or upping the temp of your wax in the presto....see if that helps.
  6. It's hard to see because the pic is sideways, but if you are pouring up into the mouth of the jar...maybe that is what is causing the wax to sink in around the wick? I would pour right to where the hexagon ends where it starts to taper up. Does that make sense? You said you perfected it a few days back, sorry just getting to respond now, do you mind sharing what you did to correct this?
  7. In the mason jars I use 104 or 105 typically for most scents....not sure the measurements are the same for your hex jar...but I would bet 104 or 105 will work. regarding the pint mason....if it's a wide mouth pint I use a 126 htp
  8. Hi Candle guy. When you say the wax was bubbly in the pot, that doesn't sound right. I've never seen that wax bubbly when I'm melting in my double boiler set up. Your pour temp sounds about right...I heat to 185 or so add fo then pour. I do not wrap my jars with anything. If it is too cold in my house, I have had the wax pull away from the wick...and have cracking, but never caving in around the wick of an inch. Do you have pics of your candles by chance?
  9. I just received a slab of this to try out today. Is there anyone that still uses this? Most of the threads I was reading up on before I ordered were several years old...and Ravens and Jeanie were using this and or testing with this at that time and they loved it. I've always used 4627 but I just don't want to deal with that big blob of sticky anymore so now that I am nearly out of it....I decided to try out the cbl129 as well as the 2530 H. I've not ever had to do 2 pours with a container.....when they say two pours....do you pour to the point on your jar and then just fill in with the 2nd pour after it shrinks like I would with a pillar? And do you poke relief holes?
  10. I use a blend of 70% 4625 and 30% 4627 for my melts. I have no problem with them melting, but I use a tea light melter, not a bulb warmer. edited to add....totally missed where you wanted to use 4625 for containers by mixing. not done that with it....sorry.
  11. I just ordered a slab of the 2530H from Candlewic to try and received it today. Fast shipping! I'm excited to try it out. I also picked up a slab of their cbl 129. getting tired of my 4627 and the pain of working with that massive blob. Thanks for the data sheet tom
  12. I'm not much help in the name department.....but that sure is a pretty looking soap! Love the colors you chose, as well as the swirling action
  13. http://www.craftserver.com/topic/105975-standard-ultra-or-extreme-with-save-on-scents/?hl=%2Bsave+%2Bscents+%2Bultra+%2Bextreme Here is an older thread....seems Extreme is the way to go for what you need Trappeur
  14. I second Beach (think it's a bobbi brown dupe) at WSP...and WSP's Sun and Sand is very suntanny beachy smell. I think I also have a Coppertone from Just Scent....not sure I've soaped that one or put it in a candle yet though. Edit to say...you specifically wanted the suppliers you mentioned, I would try NGs sun and sand and ocean mist. Great reviews on those!
  15. The girl I see for massage 2 or 3 times a year uses young living oils exclusively in her massage business. To be honest....going to her for a massage the first time years ago...is what got me interested in soap making because I felt so GREAT after the massage and the oils were just heavenly smelling LOL. I was super super stressed out at the time...so obviously I felt great after the massage...but I distinctly recalled how great I smelled LOL. I had to have me some essential oil of lavender, peppermint and lemon...to put in soap! I didn't order from young living though....couldn't afford those prices. I ordered them from Camden Grey. I still use peppermint today when I have a stuffy nose...and I diffuse the lavender or apply it neat to my temples if I have a headache or if I am stressed One oil that I did have her get me was the Thieves Oil. I have a bottle that I have had for several years. I use this every year during flu season. I have to say....it works for me. I don't ingest...but I do put it on the bottom of my feet at night with a bit of sweet almond oil. The reason I had her get me a bottle of that was because one year...I got hit with my first ever case of bronchitis ( I am a smoker). Sent me to the ER. Naturally the bronchitis cough went on for awhile. I decided to go to her office ( which is a chiropractors office as well....the Dr also uses the oils and saw me this day) and she laid me down on the table....and did some hocus pocus witch doctory stuff....mixed some thieves oil with oil...then dropped it on my chest, placed her hands there where she had dropped the oils for about 2 minutes...eyes closed, not speaking, like she was meditating. I thought was way strange at the time....... Later that night....I hocked up a giant fur ball....I am serious. I coughed up something...looked like a mix of phlegm and hair...my own hair. My cough SIGNIFICANTLY reduced right after that. I slept that night straight thru for the first time in over a week. So, was it the Thieves? Don't know...but after that...I wanted that bottle and I paid $50 for it. I've not had bronchitis again....and this year? All my coworkers have had the flu...not me...the smoker LOL. Do I fall for the gimmicks of young living? No...but I love that Thieves oil and love all essential oils if used properly. Oh...and lavender eo on a cut on your finger ( you always cut yourself on the joint lol) that hurts to high heaven?...takes the pain away instantly for me. I only discovered this little neat benefit last week after I cut myself.
  16. The colors and swirls came out great! I really love your bars. My hubby complains mine are too square. Yours look like they are not as tall as mine...love them.
  17. Absolutely keep posting the photo's! I like visuals too. Some of us are visual people...and as far as I am concerned, having photo's gives others an "idea" what to look for. How does the jar feel? I think the melt pool looks good...does the jar feel hot at all?
  18. Could it be this wick? Hemp Core? http://www.wickstore.com/Products/Hemp-Cored-Candle-Wick--838-Series-1LB__838LB-H.aspx
  19. I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU! It's such a great feeling when you get your very first, made by you...scent throwing across the room, candle! LOL
  20. ooooh...can't wait to see this cut. Colors came out GREAT! unique....in the melt and pour section...try a search for swirling m & p. I've swirled m&p lots of times. It's just different than cp soap. A totally different technique to it.
  21. These are very pretty and springy looking, even if you are disappointed with the color yourself, they look great to me. Are the vibrance mica's the old pop mica's from TKB? I thought I read that somewhere. I still am using my original pop mica sample bags from TKB. I'm almost out. And will need more soon.
