  1. How much mica did you use for the purple colour? I love mica's but can never get them dramatic enough.
  2. This is stunning and I don't think you used too much colour at all. Why would I laugh it's a stunner. I've used this scent from Brambleberry and loved it. The scent was pretty strong and I used 1 oz per pound of oils.
  3. Hello, I made a batch of Licorice soap over the week-end: This is the soap right after it was poured. It's a two tone swirl idea I came up with. This is the soap cut: I'm happy with it but was hoping the separate white and black sides would show up more on top. Next time I will do things a bit differently. Thanks for looking
  4. Thanks, I've been inspired by everyone here and the beautiful soaps you all make. The brown and pink one was a spin off the Mantra swirl since I don't get The Saponifier so just looked at the photo I saw here and just did my own thing. I'd never done a split colour soap in half like that and will try it again since it was so much fun. I've been brainstorming different ideas and lay awake thinking about designs etc.
  5. Those all look wonderful. You did a great job.
  6. I've been busy making soaps. This is a CP unscented and coloured with clays in the log. This is the cut version. This is CP Lemongrass with a hint of Patchouli freshly poured. Here are the cut bars. This one is Vanilla Musk out of the mold (purple is musk and brown is Vanilla) Cut version Cherry Blossom M&P Galaxy Salt Spa freshly poured Cut version Another view Thanks for looking.
  7. Thanks. I'll use regular salt and sea salt next time.
  8. Fantastic the cut bars are even more stunning than it was freshly poured.
  9. Thanks for asking this question and for the great responses. I heard about these awhile ago but haven't tried one yet but I too wondered about making them but wasn't able to find wicks locally. This isn't something I would want to sell though after hearing others experiences.
  10. I originally ordered warning labels from Canwax but realized I wanted more information on them based on my own experience and what I think everyone should know. So when I ran out of my labels (it was right before Christmas when I had a few craft shows) I took their information and combined it with my own and just printed out labels on plain white printer paper and I hand cut them out and fold them up and place them inside the jar or tin. At some point I'll try to get them on a round label but for now this works. Thanks for the link Stella1952.
  11. This is what The Sage wrote back about it: Dendritic salt is a highly purified sodium chloride which has been crystallized under special conditions. Sodium ferrocyanide is added to modify the way the salt crystals grow. Dendritic salt has the ability to hold a tremendous amount of water, it is often used as a anti-caking agent. My sister told me the salt bars aren't weeping anymore so that's good news.
  12. Thanks for the info and article link. I'm off to look at it now.
  13. Thanks, I'm not sure if iodine is in there but I got it from The Sage awhile back but I don't see it on their site anymore. I've sent them an e-mail asking if it can be used in soaps. I think the soaps will be fine but think next time I'll stick to all sea salt or a mix of dentritic and sea salt. The soap is one of the most beautiful bars I've made (will post pictures when I get the chance) so I'm really hope they work out. I made only 7 bars. On some soap forum I read that it's normal for salt bars to weep a bit but it didn't happen in the last batch I made but used sea salt, dead sea salt, solar salt etc. in that batch. A long time ago I made a coffee soap with cinnamon EO and coffee grounds and had the same weeping problem and just kept patting them with paper towels and they ended up being fine in the end. I just always try and figure out why it happened so I don't run into the same problem in the end.
  14. Hello, I just made a batch of salt bars on Sunday yesterday and did them in the oven in my Bella mold (soaphutch mold sort like the kelsei but 3.5 x 2.5) so I wouldn't have to cut them. I used 50% dentritic salt (as I have tonnes of it and am out of sea salt) to total amount of oils before running it through the lye calculator. Also used about 1 oz of witch hazel as well as I read somewhere that someone else had tried it. The bars came out stunning but they were really wet on the sides and bottom. Monday morning before work I used paper towel to wipe them dry and let them sit out to dry and whenever I notice drops on the sides of bottom I wipe them off and have made some samples to try first to see how they work. Is it normal for salt bars to be wet? My batch was 21 ounces and I used 1.3 FO as I normally use 1 oz per pound and it was a Neroli FO. I've never used straight dentritic salt before so wondering if that might be the problem. Has anyone else used this salt before?
  15. DebbieTX, Thanks for letting me know about percentage of salt. I made one yesterday with 50% and used all dentritic salt. My first salt bar didn't look that great.
  16. I too love the second one. The majority of my soap are all non gel. I leave them in the fridge for 24 hours if I can wait that long, then sit out in the mold for 24 hours and then unmold for another day and then I cut mine. The soaps are so smooth when they are done non gel. When I'm in a rush I do them in the oven (to cut my cure time down to a couple weeks) or I make melt and pour if I need them right away.
  17. I've used the neons quite a few times and have never had a problem with the smell. I love them, it's too bad you threw them out as I would have contacted the supplier. They are wonderful to deal with.
  18. I would get both if I were you. That's what I did because I wanted the neons since I love bright colours but wanted the POP's to experiment with and to make makeup with too. I ordered an ounce of each and sometimes use both POP's and neon's in soap. When I use it I eyeball the amount I use but I love them both.
  19. Thanks I think this soap is going to take awhile to get hard. I have it sitting out and it seems to be doing well now but compared to the others it's not rock hard. I read on there that 38% water is the default for newbies to make a decent bar of soap but next time I'll change it to 33% if I have to use it again. I prefer summerbee meadow though. Sometimes I go to soapcalc to see the hardness of a soap and then use the recipe on summerbee.
  20. Thanks for all your comments. I just made a batch yesterday and did them in the oven in my Bella mold (soaphutch mold sort like the kelsei but 3.5 x 2.5) so I wouldn't have to cut them. I used dentritic salt (as I have tonnes of it and am out of sea salt). Also used witch hazel as well as I read that somewhere. The bars came out stunning but they were really wet on the sides and bottom. This morning before work I used paper towel to wipe them dry and will let them sit out for a day or so and will keep drying them if necessary. Is it normal for salt bars to be wet? My batch was 21 ounces and I used 1.3 FO as I normally use 1 oz per pound and it was a Neroli FO. surfgirl, How did you use the capsules I found some locally at a health food store. Do you break open each capsule to get the powder amount?
  21. 8-GRAN-ONES, That is really beautiful and I'm dying to see it cut. JMCintosh, You have to subscribe here: http://saponifier.com/
  22. Hello, Does anyone know what I can use to make perfume with in Canada? I know I can't get Vodka that is 100% here. I found Ethanol at Voyageur but it has an odour to it so isn't ideal for perfume.
