1. I was reading a thread on here not too long ago on Soapcalc and Soapmaker. I just downloaded Soapmaker to give it a try as I thought I had read where Soapcalc can more often times be off on their information. I don't remember seeing anyone mention anything about a variance in Soapmaker.
2. They came out great, I really like the rolled one. How fun!
3. The best thing to do is visit the other market where she is going to be selling your candles and see if your labels have been removed and replaced by hers. If she did switch labels/hang tags, confront her, and also don't sell to her again.
4. I think Carebear hit the nail on the head with the insulating. If you are only putting 1 towel over it and your mold is plastic, you need more insulation. I put an old quilt down, then I put a thick towel on top of the quilt. Then I put my mold (wooden) right in the center. The lid I made for this mold fit inside it, so I don't use it. I take a cardboard piece that will rest on the top of my mold, and then I put a smaller towel on top of that. Then I start wrapping. First the big towel, and then the quilt and then put it in a draft-free place. Since you are using a plastic mold, I would add more towels than I use for my wooden mold. HTH
5. And thank you Creative. I love that blue also! Thank goodness I actually wrote down how much I used so can duplicate that again, LOL. Scented, I definately will be buffing. I think I'll also employ Bethany's method
6. Thank you Anita, Wendy and Barbara, and also Vio and Scented and Bethany.
7. What beautiful soapies, it's so hard to pick a favorite. But I really like the Burberry and the Fata Morgana!
8. What perfect colors and little heart swirls for the name. Absolutely stunning!
9. How pretty is that! The drops of color turned into beautiful swirlie hearts. An absolute "10" for artistic impression!
10. They look really cool. What a neat marbled look. You rock, Kristy!
11. Thanks Bethany, it was probably you that I heard about the rubbing alcohol from in the first place. I know I have some in a spray bottle around here somewhere, so will find it and then have a close encounter with the soap.
12. Ok Scented (holds the patch/ylang up close to the monitor so she can get a good whiff....) Ahhhhhhhhhhh, you like? I knew you would cuz you're such a patch ho And it just gets better the longer it dries. I'm not impressed with the ash though that you can see has already started to form. I'm disgusted with it and really takes away from it. I'll have to figure out what I can do about it. I think someone said to spritz some rubbing alcohol on the bars and this may be my best bet, as they have textured tops on them. Thanks Vio. They do like somewhat quartz-like, don't they? I think that's due to the pale lavendar dye. We'll see as it dries more.
13. The first is the Goat's Milk CP scented with Patchouli EO & Ylang Ylang EO. I love this combo of EO's, it's so alluring and mysterious. This is the first batch that I put in the fridge after pouring to keep it from gelling. I felt a need to experiment, lol. The next is HP scented with Violet. I didn't use enough UM Violet color and so it is very very pale. It has started to darken up a little bit since cutting the other day and I can only hope that it darkens even move as it dries. Thanks for looking!
14. Well dang, Michi, that sucks with the Elderberry one. It started out really nice. I hate when they decide to take a walk on the brown side. Your UV one looks terrific! I really like the looks of it.
15. Well, trust us, that's NOT ugly. And so, Angel still holds the crown and the flowers. Of course she's Queen right now in the Festering Wound category, lol. Barbara, that has to smell soooooooooo good
16. Geez, Barbara, that's not butt ugly at all! And here I was expecting something really bad from the way you were talking. I love the colors. Maybe it looks worse in person than on the screen? If you don't like them, you can send them up to me, lol.
17. Congrats, Billie, on your first soap! I think it turned out great for your first one. Can't wait to see your next batch!
18. Pawz, I am of the belief that one can never do enough research or ask enough questions. I've been soaping for several years now and continue to learn new things as handcrafted soaping evolves and changes. And it's communities like this one that allow us to ask questions and share information. So, yes, a big thank you to all who are sharing so freely.
19. Ah, Scented, you snuck in there on me, lol. "I never tried it with adding the lye to unmelted hard oils, but I think there's a process that does that. I read where the hard oils weren't melting completely from the heat caused by the lye added to the oils and figured it was something I didn't have the patience to endure." Yeah, I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon, I'm not that desperate for entertainment, lol.
20. kidsngarden, thanks for your input. I hear ya on the GM thing. I also freeze my GM. I mainly HP, and during my recent return to CP for swirling purposes, I've confirmed why I went to HP... due to the ash, gawd, I hate it, lol. But anyway, today I did a GM soap and didn't HP it afterwards. I even put it in the fridge to keep it from gelling (first time doing that), lol. Oh, and I even put Glad wrap over it. It seems to have stayed nice and white so far, with a nice swirl in it. So we'll see. Now I just dread that friggin ash, sigh. Carebear, thanks for your input also. I did find through my searching that there are a couple different ways to soap RT. That only made it worse, lol. Also, when I soap, both my lye and my oils are the same temp. The lye is not cooler than the oils. But I have actually seen recipes where they had the lye temp cooler than the oils and thought, wow, that's asking for trouble. So it's good you mentioned it so any newbies will know about it.
21. I hear ya there! Good thing I'm getting ready to eat in a few minutes, lol.
22. Yeah, Donna! Looks great! The sweet orange and green clover sound devine. I'm sure Barbara will be very proud of you.
23. Pawz, I was getting ready to start a discussion thread on this subject myself, so thank you. I'm from the old school where lye and oil temps should match. I've seen alot here about soaping RT and have done searches several times to try to figure out what the big draw is. As of yet, I haven't found the answer. So I hope there's lots of discussion on this, as I'd really like to understand it.
